Matt Damon is Captain Kirk!

Hmm. I hadn’t realized he was that old (43). He looks youthful. Upon checking, I find that Nimoy was 36 when he began playing Spock.

Livingston is 40, but also looks youthful. One reason I thought of him is that he can do Spock’s one-eyebrow-raised thing.

People! People! People! There! is! only! one! man! who! canplaySpock! That’s Alexander Dane.

How old was his human mother, then? She looked 50-ish.

I think Emily Deschanel should play McCoy.

Who played the other Vulcan crewmember on Voyager, the one who went through Pon Farr and approached Torres?

I can really picture Damon as Kirk.

I can’t speak to Zachary Quinto. I hate the character of Sylar so much that it interferes with my thoughts about Quinto.

I don’t gave a damn about the success rate, why should I care how often they fail? It’s not like I’m likely to see the failures. Not sure what ticket prices have to do with it. I won’t pay then unless I have pretty good reason to believe they’ve managed to succeed.

Repeating for emphasis.

The casting rumors — and they are indeed nothing but rumors — are several months old. The Canadian news outlet is apparently catching up on their unread email and didn’t bother to fact-check anything before rushing to print.

Nobody has been cast. Release dates are not confirmed.

Nothing to see here, as far as facts go, but feel free to speculate.

If they can’t make a movie in 16 months, there is something seriously wrong with the filmmaking process. Principal photography rarely takes more than three months, with post-production work (special effects et al.) usually taking no more than six months. Keep in mind that when you hear of “2+ years” that includes things like financing, casting, and scriptwriting, things that have already occurred.

War of the Worlds only took about 6 months. Maybe less.

Oh yes, it has: December 25, 2008.

Episode: “Blood Fever”
Character name: Ensign Vorik
Actor name: Alexander Enberg

Because I hate sitting through 3K trailers of movies that are obviously going to suck while waiting for the movie to start. And no, just walking right before the movie starts is not an option. The local theaters have gotten wise to folks doing that, so they play with the actual start times in relation to what the posted start time is.

Thanks.
He did eight episodes. I thought he played a very…Vulcanesque Vulcan. The scene from Blood Fever with Tuvok, where they stand side by side not looking at each other and discuss Pon Farr is very good.

I think she’s already playing Spock, actually. And doing a damned fine job of it.

Ooh - how about David Boreanaz playing Kirk?

too sweet, nah - too off the cuff, that’s not it, either. I can’t explain it. He’d be a more cool Kirk for sure, but I don’t think it would play with the fans

Good gravy. Those producers look like some of my students.

I believe he has legally changed his name to “Ferris Bueller’s friend.”

Alan Ruck was already in a Star Trek movie. I think he was in Generations.

Alan Ruck…now there’s a man who never got the credit he deserved. Cameron Fry (Ferris’s friend) is one of my favorite characters of all time. Definitely the most interesting John Hughes character, IMHO.

I think Damon, Brody, and Sinise will do fine as The Big Three. It kind of bugs me when people say that a certain actor could not play a certain role because they haven’t seen them play that character before. Damon, Brody, and Sinise all have reputations of playing characters that are very distinct from the ones they’ve previously played. All three of them are great actors. I was skeptical about Damon as Jason Bourne but he does a great job.

They’re actors. It’s their job to play different characters. It’s wrong to say that an actor can’t play a certain role until they actually try and fail.

An observation on Matt Damon. Young Shatner looks absolutely NOTHING like old Shatner. Matt Damon looks NOTHING like young Shatner. But Matt Damon DOES look like a younger version of old Shatner.

The casting still troubles me, though. The Star Trek franchise has always been either a launching pad for a person’s career or in most cases, their ENTIRE career. Getting a handful of Oscar winners to play The Big Three just doesn’t seem right to me.

Patrick Stewart already had quite a career as a Shakespearean (that voice!) actor before he took the help as Captain Picard. DeForest Kelley had been playing villians in TV westerns all through the 50’s & early 60’s before being cast as Dr. Leonard McCoy. Shatner did a little TV before, but Kirk was definitely his career-defining role.

I guess your’e right about the rest of the regulars though.
