Matt Damon is Captain Kirk!

Yes, they had careers. You usually need some form of street cred before you get cast on a national television program. But they weren’t recognized “stars” before Trek. You might’ve looked at DeForest Kelley and thought, “Didn’t he play the bad guy in that one western?” In all cases the role the actor is most known for is their Trek character. Damon, Brody, and Sinise have already had well publicized careers. They’re already household names.

What would be the chances of seeing Damon, Brody, or Sinise at a Star Trek convention? I guess judging by his friendship with Kevin Smith, Matt Damon might be geeky enough to attend one. I use the term “geeky” as a compliment.

Yup. Too bad imdb wasn’t around back then, because I could have shouted “Cameron!” when he came on screen!

Nimoy’s acting credits go back to 1951, DeForrest’s to WW II training films, Doohan’s to the same time as Nimoy’s, Koening’s to '62, Nichols to '58, and Takei to '59.

Some of the later series stars (Rene Auberjonois and Ethan Phillips) had pretty established careers in the 70s/80s, before doing Trek. Auberjonois admitted in an interview that he took the gig because he had kids to put through college and he could either sell the house or go back to work. (Wish they’d have had him shout, “Benson!” on one episode of DS9! ;))

Or better yet, shout “Dago Red!”

I think Christian Bale would make an interesting Spock.

Especially if you could get Hugh Jackman to be McCoy.

If Hugh Jackman played McCoy, Nurse Chapel would never have fallen in love with Spock

[McCoy]Dammit Jim, I’m a doctor, not a magician!!![/McCoy]

Nathan Fillion as Kirk.
Alan Tudyk as McCoy.
Sean Maher as Spock.
Ron Glass as Sarek.
Jewel Staite as Scotty.

Morena Baccarin as Yeoman Rand.
Gina Torres as Uhura.
Summer Glau as Sulu.
Adam Baldwin as new character - Chief of Security Cobb Jayneway.

I’d buy a ticket.

I’m neither gay, nor female, so I can’t argue this, I will say, however, that Bale looked pretty buff in Batman Begins, more so than I’ve seen Jackman (not that I’ve really looked, mind you). Chicks dig buff guys, right? Of course, Jackman’s a helluva an actor, better than the signed cast (save for maybe Sinise, wherein he ties at least), so that might swing things, but then again, Spock’s a musician, so maybe it all balances out.

a dirtier*, grittier, funnier Star Trek indeed

eta: * as in grime and dust, not smut

also eta: “Adam Baldwin as new character - Chief of Security Cobb Jayneway”? Great grandfather of Katherine? Works for me.

Nah, he’s Chekov!

But really, the ideal cast should look something like this:

Kirk: Christina Ricci
Spock: Emily Deschanel
McCoy: Kiera Knightly
Scotty: Jewel Staite
Yeoman Rand: Morena Baccarin
Uhura: Gina Torres
Sulu: Summer Glau
Chekov: Scarlett Johansson

As for the plot, that would revolve around the Klingons working with an evil alien force to disrupt the Federation by stealing all Federation uniforms. When the crew of the Enterprise tries to stop the Klingons, the alien force would take possession of the crew and force them to perform “unnatural” acts on one another to prevent the crew from stopping the Klingons. I guarantee Paramount a packed house at every showing if they agree to my idea. It’ll be the highest grossing film in history. (Especially if you cast Halle Berry as the Klingon K’Lit Likkor. )

Sounds like a plot written by Jean-Luc Picard.

What? No Sarah Chalke? or Liv Tyler? And for the slightly older cast members (gotta have some Starfleet veterans) Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kiddman?

Liv Tyler’s part chimp and doesn’t seem to be aging too well, IIRC. Nicole Kidman chewed on Tom Cruise, so that put’s her right out the airlock, IMHO. If you want senior Starfleet folks, then Kathleen Turner (Og, can that woman purr!) and Julianne Moore as well as Sarah Chalke.

But who will play Captain Christopher Pike?

Post accident? Terri Garr, of course!

Nope for two reasons

One is that since its supposed to be a prequel , when the fans see the original constitution class type enterprise in the trailers , then they are gonna go see.

Second is that they are gonna go just to see how bad it really is, if it is.

What irritates me is why do they have to go with the big three(kirk, spock,McCoy)
, its a big enough franchise that they could have had some of the other academy grads go on to big things.

I think if its gonna fail , its because of that.

Declan

So finally not a rumour any more, there was a photoshop picture done on a Trek site I post on a while back with the faces of these three on the big three and it does work, looks wise.

Maybe they’ll do a “re-imagining” of the aliens’ physical characteristics, like they did with the Klingon headpieces in ST-TMP. Only this time it’ll be the Vulcans. Instead of pointy ears, they’ll have long pointy noses.
“We don’t talk about it. It would be illogical.”

Interesting story about Bale’s physique in Batman Begins. He auditioned for that part just three weeks after he wrapped The Machinist, in which he played a man who hadn’t slept in an entire year, and he’d slimmed down from 180 to 121 pounds for the role. He looked like this in that movie (WARNING! It’s a very shocking photo).

In an interview with Terry Gross, I heard Bale say he spent those three weeks basically eating nonstop, and managed to put tens of pounds back on before his Batman audition.

That can’t be good for you!
