NBC News is reporting that Perry drowned. Also that a toxicology report will take six weeks or more.
Wow, today i learned Corey Haim is dead, and has been dead for 13 years.
Yeah, this is me. I tried it, but I just didn’t like Friends. Perry seemed decent though, and I liked him in other things I saw him in. RIP.
The opposite of an Abe Vigoda, I guess.
I always say I never saw the show, but I think I saw one episode from when it was fresh and new. Any clips I’ve seen made it pretty clear Perry was the funniest one.
I’ve seen it enough times to know when to clap four times.
Yeah, I’m betting that he had some sort of cardiovascular damage from his addictions, and combining that with pickleball & a jacuzzi caused some sort of heart attack that ultimately caused him to drown.
I…don’t get it.
There’s a distinctive rapid clap in the Friends theme song.
That particular joke is referencing the character that he is most closely associated with, and is therefore a tribute, not tacky.
Or he could’ve had a blood pressure drop - live vasovagel thing (I’ve gotten them at times) - and he just slipped under water.
As the guy who said it up thread, it’s an homage to his Chandler Bing character that a fully expect Friends fans to get.
Of course. I wasn’t saying the joke was inappropriate, I was citing it as an example of the spirit in which people were approaching the thread - something I’m sure Perry would have approved of. Along with frank discussion of his addiction problems and the fact that they may have contributed to his early death.
Understood. I will get back to working on my WENUS.
I agree that I’m shocked but not surprised. I did wonder at relapse but reading about the exercise, then into a hot tub, sounds like a bad combo for him.
I really liked Studio 60. Sorkin wrote that role for Matthew Perry and he did it well.
I did watch some of his other shows, like Go On and Mr Sunshine. Seemed like he was trying things then. I never saw Odd Couple which lasted longest after Friends for him.
“Good bye, Mr Heckles. We’ll try and keep it down.”
Very sad. He was my favorite Friend.
I just found out a few weeks ago that Keith Morrison is his step-father.
I had to laugh (and thought of this thread) while catching up on episodes of “The Amazing Race” this weekend. In one leg they were in Vietnam and had a challenge where teams had to carry four foam mattresses from a truck to a hotel about a quarter mile away, then up three flights of stairs to one of the rooms. As they were going up the stairs they would yell “Pivot!” ![]()
(Although as you say that’s just Matthew Perry adjacent, because it was actually Ross yelling “Pivot!”, right?)
RIP Matthew.
I saw they gave him the final line of the show because of how good he was at comedic timing. I guess they said “Let’s go get coffee.”
He paused just perfect and said, “Where???”
Gotta love him. It’d be like Norm asking Cliff where they should get a beer.
Did one of them then reply, “SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP!” ?
