May I post a review of the "Attack of the Clones" script?

I’ve been on the board since late 1997 and don’t want to do anything to controversial, so I thought I’d come in here and ask this question.

You see, through circumstances too long and boring to go into, I have come about the scriptement of Attack of the Clones, the next Star Wars movie that is due out in May 2002.

You don’t believe me? I understand and encourage everyone to be skeptical, but I was wondering if I could post a review of it anyway. I’d mark spoilers in the title and mark all spoilers in the text itself.

I just happen to know that there are quite a few Star Wars fans here that might be interested in the review. No, I can’t give out my copy or tell anyone how to get it.

Let me know what you guys think. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask. I understand this is a rather unusual and mysterious post. Thanks.

Mahaloth

Er, you’re saying you have come into possession of a script of the next Star Wars movie? And you wonder if it’s legal, or fair, to leak the secret information of how the movie goes?

Um, you and about 2,540 other Google hits. SPOILER!!

Er. DDG, not to put a dampener on your very good point, but Supershadow there is not in posession of the script, and his site is a huge amount of nonsense.

However, yes, many others have posted or have the script (and have done since late last year). However, I don’t think any suggestion of it should be posted here. Copyright and legalities are sure to come into play pretty directly, and the Chicago Reader would likely get in trouble.

I thought he was saying he just wanted to review the script, not necessarily post it, and that his point was that reviewing it might reveal some of the plot, horrors! which is supposed to be a secret? There are 2,540 people out there who will tell you what the plot is.

Or what they think it is.

Anyway, Mahaloth, review, discuss, post to your heart’s content–just don’t post anything that’s actually copyrighted.

Do it in Cafe Society, unless of course you think it’s Pit material.

Being curious about your question, I had a chat with a friend of mine who works at ILM as a special effects editor.

His answer: If you do have a copy of the real script and decide to review publicly, do keep in mind that Mr. Lucas takes a very dim view of such things and will come down on employees at Lucas Films and ILM. There was quite the commotion after the leaks about Phantom Menace and would likely be again over any further leaks. If you post any portions of the script, then you are almost begging for legal trouble.

Also, his feeling is that you are not going to get that much from the script. No matter how much Mr. Lucas talks about story and characterization, most of the feel of the Star Wars movies comes from the action and special effects.

Another comment: Why bother? The movie comes out in about 6 months; why would you want to spoil it for yourself and others?

I agree. I just wanted to test the waters here to see what the general concensus was. If people really were interested, I might have given a deep review with minor spoilers.

Instead, just take this.

  1. It’s quite good. It’s far better than the Phantom Menace. This movie is good and the action sequences sound phenomenal.

  2. Do not assume you fully understand the title. Hold off on hacking on it until you see the movie.

I’m not really comfortable with this for quite a few reasons, legal and moral. We do hold copyright and the idea of intellectual property in high regard and what you want to do here ignores those rights.

However, hypothetical situations of all types are often discussed on this board. You can conjecture, blue sky, and make all the wild ass guesses you wanna, pretty much. Since we’re having to take your word on this subject, I think anything you might have to say would fall more under opinion rather than fact and thus all of this could be argued as much as anything else.

And can I make a polite request, please? If you are going to give out information about a movie that has not yet been released, or pretty much any movie at all in fact, could you please put “SPOILERS” in the subject of your post, or leave some spoiler space in your post?

I am extremely anti-spoiler, especially regarding movies such as Star Wars that I look forward to long in advance, and I really don’t appreciate inadvertently reading information about them prior to seeing them, even when the information is as vague and apparently innocuous as what you posted in this thread. A simple spoiler warning would be really nice.

Thanks.
