Mayday! I've been shanghaied to... mulch!

I got them from A Southern Season. I don’t know if they sell them through the website, though. If you want some and can’t find them anywhere, let me know and we can make arrangements. They’re not cheap, but Southern Season has two big sales every year, so if you don’t mind waiting, you can get them a little cheaper.

I think I’ll be making some muffins, as soon as I can find my cocoa nibs.

Bittersweet looks fabulous!
I don’t need any more cookbooks, I don’t need any more cookbooks, I don’t need any more cookbooks…must resist urge to run out and buy this book…

Ashes[sup]2[/sup], you’re a kitty abuser!

Hmm. I have been reading some of L. M. Montgomery’s journals and I feel all depressed. She’s the most grimly fatalistic writer I’ve ever read. Does anyone know if her life was horrific enough to justify how bitterly she writes about it?

I should go get some tinned pears if I intend to make cake. Which I do.

Hey y’all. Not much in the way of flirting or teasing this week. I’m in a training class, and I’m skipping the last session Thursday to go back to Indianoplace for my gradjeeashun on Sunday. We’re actually going a day early because my 98 yo granny is not doing well, and I need to get to Amishland on Friday to see her for probably the last time.

My sister just called. She saw Granny today, and her best guess is Grandma will hang on to Friday for us to visit

I got my insurance authorization letter yesterday for my surgery. The bad news is that it’s for the wrong date. Two weeks earlier than scheduled, and actually the insurance date is for 2 days after we move. That one ain’t happening

OK, back to lurk mode. I’ll take my notebook along on the trip, and try to post from the hotel room.

Farmer cheese is like cottage cheese with most of the moisture squeezed out of it. I think you could wrap some cottage cheese in cheese cloth and let it drain and then squeeze it, I dunno, I’ve never done it. Or use goat cheese. Hell, I’d just use mozzorella(sp?) iffen ir doesn’t have to be real soft and crumbly, but I’m like that. I’s a wild man I tells ya’!
Whatcha cookin’?

Lissla, I’ve never heard of any of that music, but hey this board is about fighting ignorance, right? :stuck_out_tongue:

VunderBob sorry to hear about your grandma.

The angel food cake with strawberries, chocolate syrup and whipped cream (OK! Cool Whip[sup]TM[/sup]) was tres yummy. There will be more tonight. Yay for eat dessert first week! Though I think I’m being taken out to dinner tonight. We could eat dessert then go out for dinner though so it’ll still work.

ACBG told me last night that he does not ever (he really, really emphasized that) want an angel food cake pan and sevenup bottle lamp. Now I gotta figure out a whole new idea for Christmas.

That would be so easy Swampy! They (hardware stores that have lamp stuff) have a lamp socket especially made to go in bottles. It’s like a rubber cork with a wire and a light socket sticking out the top. You just cram it into the bottle top and presto! instant lamp. You turn the angel food cake pan over and it already looks like a lamp shade. Although I’d probably hack saw off part of the middle tube part so it sits lower on the bulb. I could pound one of them out in 15 minutes.

You know what kind of adapter they don’t make for creating lamps? A toaster adapter. When I made the toaster lamps I had to figure how to en-lampify the toasters my own self. That was hard.

Hey, Lissla… that list of your music? Does it go song then artist, or the other way? It works either way you look at it.

On the internet, nobody knows you’re a cat.

That’s what I thought. I think my gran used to buy that oncet in a while. I was wonderin cause the parmesan chicken recipe I made on Sunday night had a dippin’ sauce recipe, too, that calls for mayonaise, farmers cheese and minced garlic. So I guess you wouldn’t even have to press out the liquid iffen ya are gonna mix it with mayo anyhoo. I did NOT make the dippin sauce cause I figured neither Mr. Anachi nor I needed all those calories and fat grams. I might make some up for a party sometime though.

bob, you be sure to give your gran a big hug. I still miss mine after all these years. She was a pip!

swampy, you could give ACBG a lava lamp. That’d be cool.

Hey, shibb, you gettin’ any of that severe thunderstorm activity I be seein’ on the radar over on the west coast??

I am torn this morning. I have learned that my team leader is short-listed for another job. I am happy for him on one side but feeling abandoned on the other. :frowning: Well, he doesn’t actually have the job yet. But now I’m feelin’ guilty for hopin’ he doesn’t get it. :frowning: :frowning:

Tupug :frowning:

Well, now we do. No wonder Sean was always asking if we had any yarn balls layin around.

Susan

OK, I know you’re all wondering about my morning. I was up just before 7, then showered and out pretty quick to get some breakfast, followed by an oil change. Then I put some gas in my car. Then I came back to the apt to find daughter’s bf crashed on the couch (he was gaming on line all night), one roomie in front of the TV on the PS2, the other roomie and my kid crashed, and cats starving because no one could be bothered to put kibble in their bowl.

I dearly love my child and I’m here to help her however I can, but I can’t wait to go home… No one should live with this many teenagers…

I recognize a couple of the names, so I think it’s song name, then band, but I’m sure Lissla will be along soon to confirm.

Poor FCM, trapped in a teenage wasteland. Glad your daughter is doing well, though.

I am sorry to hear that your grandmother isn’t well, VunderBob. Were you close? I lost mine just about a year ago. Well, I didn’t lose her; I know where she is, but she won’t pick up the phone anymore when I call her.

It’s cold here, but the leaves are popping out and things are blooming and it looks like spring, even if it doesn’t feel like it. I don’t garden, so no mulching for me. I can barely keep a potted plant alive; no green thumb at all, although my mom could grow a rain forest in the desert (but not the dessert).

I have been having a crisis of wardrobe this whole week. I bought some new clothes, but it’s been too cold to wear them. It’s May, damnit! When am I going to be able to put my sweaters away?

I bought a cute new skirt, but I think I need some new shoes to wear under it. Unless those espadrilles would work, but I have to find them, and I’m not sure what condition they are in. And the top I bought to go with the skirt may be a little too tight, so if I have to return that, I may as well return the skirt as well. I could wear a green top with it but it’s just not as cute.

I think I may have to do more shopping.

I have nothing to add about cooking, except I like Angel Food cake. I’ve never tried to bake it, though, so I don’t have either a pan or a bottle. I like just tearing off pieces and eating it with my fingers like denser cotton candy.

Song, then band. My favourite bands are Assemblage 23 and VNV Nation. They’re both goth electronica. Driving Husband is more into shouty traditional industrial and stuff like Das Ich and Skinny Puppy. I get most of my music from him. He really likes Project Pitchfork and Feinflug, too. Aren’t goth band names fun? Neurotic Fish, Switchblade Symphony, Velvet Acid Christ, Bruderschaft.

I like dance-y music with a nce fast beat.
Did I tell everyone about the awesome skirt that OQD and I bought last weekend? We both fell in love with it, and it was buy one, get the second half price. It’s ballet length black cotton, tiered all the way down, with black lace around the bottom, and it’s almost two full circles- even more than a full circle skirt! I feel all ruffly and delicate in it. Also I got some ballet flats with an ankle strap. Very exciting.

Can I get a brief thread summary here?

I’m completely lost.

Ha! I’ve heard of Skinny Puppy!

Wouldn’t know any of their music if it hit me over the head, but I at least have name recognition on something. So I’m not a complete old fart.

Mulch is pooey

Angel Food cake is gooey

Eat Dessert First Week

Lissla’s music ain’t meek

Bob’s gran’s not well

FCM’s in teenage hell.

That should do it. Prolly missed some stuff.

Tupug

That was a really good summary, Tupug. Wow. We should put you in charge of doing Coles Notes for the MMP or something.

Congrats on the job, ems!! You’re going to be great. But you’ve NEVER had angel food cake?? It’s so light and airy and amazing. I usually only like chocolate desserts, but I’ll make an exception for angel food. And pound cake. But that’s a whole other thread.

Bad news *Winnie. The shoes? They don’t go under your skirt, they go on your feet. Underpants go under the skirt. I really think wearing shoes under your skirt would cause some bad chafing. But you do what you want, since you’re a grown-up and everything.

We didn’t start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world’s been turning

Why, thankee, Ms. Lissla. Uhhhhhh, what’re "Coles Notes?
