Hey, Wintermute, I didn’t know you live in Allentown. TaxiDriver’s father works for GE there. He actually lives in MA, but he works in Allentown during the week and then goes home on the weekend. Long story.
Think “Cliff’s Notes” Puggy.
Bob’s Gran’s feeling poorly? I’m sorry I missed that. Hope shew feels perky again soon Bob
I’m about to make my escape - as soon as the rain stops so we can load the van. I had a nice time with my baby - we had lunch, bought her some work shoes and some fun shoes, walked around the mall talking, had some medicinal sundaes at Friendly’s, and came home in a wicked thunderstorm. It’s still storming, but as soon as it quits, I’m heading north. I’ll probably stop somewhere in GA, then get home late tomorrow. My baby assures me she doesn’t need any more mothering, and I’m pretty sure she’s ready for her life to get back to semi normal.
We talked about the roommate thing and her bf and lots of other things. I’m confident that she’s got her priorities straight and her priority is school. So that’s good.
I miss my house and my sweetie and I have decided that I don’t want to live with a bunch of college students. And I’m ever thankful for my MMP buds who tolerate my whining. Youse guys is da bestest! MWAH!!
I thought Skinny Puppy was punk, but maybe I’m thinking of Dead Puppy. Or Dead Milkmen. Or Dead Kennedys. (Brush with fame moment: if anyone is cool enough to know who the Dead Kennedys were, and remembers Mohawk Mona, I used to know her creator.)
OMG, what do you do with all that fabric?! Isn’t it bulky? And I might have had to mug you for the shoes if you weren’t so tiny and cute. Since I am not tiny I doubt they’d fit, which is the only thing saving you. Well, that and all your husbands.
Shoes on my feet?! Now you’re just being silly. If I wore my underpants under the skirt, how would you see them, hmm? Didn’t think of that, didja?
I deny everything; I demand proof.
Well, she’s not dead yet; Only Mostly Dead. Gawd, I loved The Princess Bride
My aunt, the one who’s tired of dealing with Granny, told me last weekend that she’s probably gone to bed for the last time. When my sister saw her last night, sure enough, Granny was in bed, but she also got up under own power to go the the bathroom.
The thing is, this grandma is my last living ancestor, so that adds to the situation. She always was the cool one. My other grandmother, who I also loved dearly, was a religious nut, and that sort of dampened thing a little bit. Not Mabel. When I was a kiddygardener, and learning the secrets of a good mud pie, she was thre to add plaster of paris for staying power. Always wanted to play kids games with us when she could. She stayed close to my Mom after my parents divorced. Came with my Mom one weekend when I was in college the first time to ride the tourist train I worked, and watched intently as I played brakeman. Supported my 2nd time through school to seek my Masters. She cried as hard over my mom’s death as she did for her husband or my Dad.
Yeah, I’d say we’ve been close.
She’s had a very rough life, with a weird family, loss of her husband 30+ years ago, and health problems. The thing is, when she goes, I’ll miss her a lot, but I won’t mourn for her much. If there is anyone I know who deserves to go to sleep and not get up, it’s Grandma Mabel.
I gotta stop. My eyes are fogging up.
Sorry to hear about Grandma, Bob. She sounds like a really cool person. You can give her a hug from me as well, cuz I’m missing mine too. She and Grandad discovered Saturday Night Live in their late 80s. She was also the grandma who wore muu muus a lot because it was easy to whip her bra off without taking off her dress (and she was big on comfort). And the one who decided that it was OK to mail me the ring that Grandad gave her for their 60th anniversary. Wrapped in a little piece of paper. In a regular ol’ envelope. With an Elvis stamp. It was the only non-gaudy piece of jewelry she ever owned, I think, and I’ve been wearing it since I got it in September 1993.
Haven’t mulched yet, but I’ve acquired a bunch of plants. Don’t really have much for the flower beds yet (a few perennials and some herbs, although some of those may go in containers), but I’ve got the beginnings of several containers.
My friends and I will be having desserts first for lunch on Friday.
Busy crazy week…and it sounds like it’s that way everywhere…

Lots of sympathy, Bob. And a little envy- I never got to know any of my grandparents well- the ones who lasted into my double digit years didn’t speak English. She sounds really cool.
It’s not bulky, Wintermute, because the fabric is very light, and also because circle skirts are only really really wide at the hem. It’s gorgeous. I’ll get Mr. lissar to take some pics of me in it over the weekend and post them. And you can admire my shoes, too. Bwaha!
I regret (sort of) to say that Bad Fashion Guy missed both classes this evening. On the up side, they were good classes, and now I’m sore. Ouch. Bed.
Oh, I made apricot gingerbread cake instead of pear. I found a bag full of dried apricots. It’s fantastic, and Attacks Husband helpfully came over yesterday, and ate about half of it.
I made my decadent dessert - Nordy Bars. It didn’t so much as be bar as liquidy - but I ate 1/4 of the pan anyway. I am now in a sugar coma - and I don’t want to leave it.
Susan
Please excuse the drool.
Aw Crap! :smack: Sorry Bob. I just went back through the thread to find out about Grandma. I didn’t mean to sound flippant.
:smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack:
Surgery went well.
Not so much pain this morning.
I can’t eat steak, though.
Not much work backlog,
But I guess that will soon change,
When folks see I’m back.
Bob hug Gram for us.
I’ve got only one left, too.
See her in two weeks.
Strange, I now notice
My typing style has now changed
Dentist cut too deep?
Well, sean, you could run that steak through a blender.
We are having a Cinco de Mayo celebration at work today. There will be Margueritas, Coronas and pinatas, and some other party stuffs. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the weather sucks! It will be rainy and stormy by the time the party starts (4 pm) which is the other thing that sucks! The end of the day is a p*ss-poor time to have a party in my opinion. Who wants to knock back alchohol and then get in your car and drive home? Not in this state! And any party treats will seriously interfere with dinner. I’m just sayin’ is all…

Hey Bob, I’m so sorry to hear about your grandma. She sounds absolutely awesome. Both by Grandma and my Oma are dead. The last time I saw my Oma was in 1980 and she saw me in my surly teenage years. She died about three years ago. I regret I never got to see her while I was an adult and she never got to meet my kids or husband. She lived in Germany, though, and I couldn’t afford to fly there. My grandma died about 1995. She was a real piece of work, she was. But I loved her. Her name was Evelyn and she smoked Eve cigarettes. She definitely told you what she thought and that was that.
These past couple of days at work have been very, very busy. Somehow, during my leave, someone, somehow, screwed up one of my spreadsheets. I got complacent and didn’t have a current back-up for it because things had been going so smoothly for the past few months. It wouldn’t have mattered anyway because folks would have been required to make all their entries again anyway. At any rate, I won’t make that mistake again.
I didn’t make or eat any decadent desserts. I did make and eat some jambalaya though. It was good and we’re having the leftovers tonight.
We are not having any Cinco de Mayo celebration here. Since I work for the fed gummint, we are most definitely not allowed to have alcohol on work premises, whether its after hours or not. Besides, even if we did, the limit here is .08, not a good state to get pullled over in.
Well, I better do some work.
Forgive my ignernce if I’m wrong, but isn’t .08 the limit in all states now? I know it has been in Jawja for some time.
I feel like I have a hangover but it’s just sinuses. I was a sober bear last night. Though I did eat some hot fudge cake, so maybe it’s a hot fudge sauce hangover. Or maybe it’s from hanging out at one of the local high schools (aka germ factory) this week. I’ve been torture…err… testing students again. I got lots and lots of reports to finish up before I leave outta here for Seattle on the 14th. Such is my life anyhow.
Sean, I didn’t know
That having dental work done
Makes one write haikus
Puggy drinks a beer
Then she whacks a pinata
With a big ol’ stick
Taters is real mad
Cause her spreadsheet is messed up
She needs some fudge cake
Cinco de Mayo :smack:
Can’t believe I forgot this!
Beer plus meds though, hmmm?
Swampy - news to me
Doctor says temporary
Side effects won’t last.
Checked with restaurant
Hibachi grill - no blenders.
Chef can dice meat though.
A haiku attack
Is a serious problem.
Eat more chocolate.
I can’t do it. Too much work. I have swept-vacuumed-mopped and am making lunch, which is black beans on rice. I’ll put cheddar on top, and it will be great. Also I can eat it for dinner today and lunch tomorrow.
Best Friend and her husband arrive in less than a week, bearing a whole crapload of Trader Joe’s food. Attacks Husband is sad because I finished the cocoa almonds, and there’s almost a whole week until he gets his own box. The cherries are close to finished, too. I was trying to stretch them out until I get more.
I have just read * The Golden Compass* and The Subtle Knife in the last two and a half days. I found the second one a bit unsatisfying. I suppose I’ll read The Amber Spyglass tonight and tomorrow. I’m not really sure if I should be rooting for Lord Asriel or not. Anyone else read them?
