Mayday! I've been shanghaied to... mulch!

No, when come back bring Wedding Cake. Preferably not the pieces that you and the bride smashed against each other’s faces.

And why is everybody writing in haiku today?

You wrote haiku first
Dopers like to write haiku
It is fun. So There! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll give you a bit of advice on being married lightingtool:
“Maybe” means “no”.
&

Huh. I only had that one thing.
Good luck to you, and why is she settling?

I’m really sorry to hear about your grandmother Bob. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Congrats and good luck lightingtool!

I’ve *finally *got lots of work to do so I’m busy instead of bored. Boy, does that make the day go by so much faster!

Well, I just had a Mango Pina Colada. It was good. And now I’m gonna go munch a couple of chips and salsa and just hang out till quittin’ time. I don’t feel like workin’ anymore today. Remember I tole ya my team leader was lookin’ at another job? Well, he interviews tomorrow. Meanwhile, one of my other team mates interviewed for another job yesterday and she’s taking it. Is it my breath? I’m feeling sad an abandoned. :frowning:

I’m hooooooooooome! Long drive, half of it in rain, so glad to pull into my garage! I"m staying home tomorrow doing all the chores that were neglected in my absence.

Bob, your Grandma sounds like a really cool lady. My maternal grandmother was a hoot. She used to buy second-hand bodice-rippers at a thrift store, and pass them on the me with such comments as “This one had a lot of good parts…” I’m kinda glad I didn’t see her in her last weeks - instead of remembering an old lady who had a stroke, I remember her doing the Twist and riding the Ferris Wheel with me, and giving me dirty books.

No haiku for me.

Congratulations on the impending nuptials, lt and future Mrs. lt.

Sean,
Haiku is catching.
Even though I’m bad at it.
I always attempt.

(See, I told you!)

Is this Vogon haiku?

My puppy missed me. She’s been attached to my hip since I got home yesterday. There’s no doubt that Bernie is my dog.

I stayed home today - after all, who goes in on Friday after being off the whole week? Besides, I had a bad night last night and I’d spend the day dozing at my desk. So I hauled all the laundry downstairs and the first load is in. I’ve got bills to pay, a van to unpack, and probably groceries to buy. I’ve got to run to the post office since I’m down to one stamp. I wanted to do a little work in the yard, but it’s supposed to rain all day. No big.

I need to forage for breakfast. I know there’s leftover pizza in the fridge, but it doesn’t really appeal. Wouldn’t it be lovely if a mysterious benefactor suddenly appeared on my front porch bearing a breakfast tray of exactly what I want? Whatever that may be… Instead, I expect breakfast will be cereal or toast. How mundane.

Happy Friday, all!

Well, how thoughtful of FairyChatDad to leave you some breakfast in the fridge!

FCM is hungry

Cold pizza in fridge

Yay for VunderBob’s
IUPUI degree
Celebrate big time!

Actually, the pizza is leftover from my dinner last night. He finished his pizza.

Third load of laundry is in the washer. Electric bill paid on line. I’ve got a pile of papers - bills and stubs - sitting on the desk that I need to sort and tend to. And I’ve got to call the lawyers who did our land closing on Tuesday - they still owe us something over $600 and I want the money, dagnabbit!!

Other items on my agenda du jour - vacuuming. Light colored carpeting plus black dog equals frequent vacuum intervention. On the other hand, the cat box is already cleaned, so there’s that…

Bernie is happy
Her mommy is home at last
To give butt skritches

Lawyers owe money
Six hundred dollars they owe
Hand it over now!

Swampy writes haikus
Though he isn’t very good
Still he keeps writing

:stuck_out_tongue:

That’s the only way to get better. Keep practicing.

lightningtool to add to Rue’s advice: when she says, "Oh, you don’t have to get me anythin for Christmas/birthday/anniversary/Valentine’s Day, don’t believe it. Because if you don’t do something to mark the occasion, you will hear about it forever. Congrats again to you.
(PS - did y’all see that one of the catagories on Jeopardy last night was “You’ll Rue The Day.” ?)

And Tuppy, all those folks at work are just leaving so you can move into your rightful place in the company. They figure it’s better to leave than to have you steamroller over them on your way up!

Okay, I’ve never attempted Haiku so somebody needs to give me the basics. I know it’s three lines but then what?

Thanks for the vote of confidence, sean. If I were 20 years younger, I might just do that.

Yay! It’s Friday! I’m looking forward to the weekend. Think I’m gonna rough out my resume on Saturday. I haven’t updated it in 15 years! Just to be on the safe side. You never know. Then on Sunday The Princess[sup]TM[/sup] has got something cooking for Mothers Day. She just told me not to make any plans.

We had sketti for dinner last night. With meataballs. It was good.

Tupug

Everyone’s writing haiku
I have nothing good to add
It’s par for the course

5-7-5 - syllables, that is. You don’t even have to rhyme, but that would be a bonus, wouldn’t it. *Rhyming Haiku * - an improbably band name.

I called the lawyer’s office in a minor panic because all the paperwork for the sale of the lot has our Florida address listed. Even the check they gave us had the FL address, but the other check was mailed to our MD address yesterday. So it’ll get here today, too late for me to get it mailed to our FL credit union with the other check. So I’ll just deposit it in our VA credit union on Monday. I am just so interstate in my transactions! Stand in awe!

Banking is a pain
With distant credit union.
It’s only money…

Last load of laundry is in the washer. I feel so accomplished. I’m going to pay a few bills, then shower, dress, and head to the post office. Envy me my exciting, jet-setting life!

Now how am I supposed to know if he’s healthy?

Katcha was supposed to have a doctor’s appointment today. Only when I got home from taking Soupo to school there was a message on my machine. It was weird, it was taped right to the washing machine. Kinda freaked me out…

Ha ha! No. It was on the answering machine. (But you knew that.) A rather frazzled-sounding nurse (or just the receptionist- whatever) left a message. It seems the office has a little trouble with the water main. So no five-year check-up today. (And it’s not like I was even expecting them to wash him down or anything.)

In other water-related news: I repacked the spigot out front. (I had to go to the hardware store to buy some packing string. You have all the packing string you need at your house, don’tcha? Yeah, thought so.) I saw them do it on Ask This Old House and it looked easy. And, surprisingly, it was sorta easy. Easy enough anyway. Now the hose faucet don’t leak no more.

I also found out it’s a “frost-proof” valve. It has this really long stem in it that goes back into the house so even if it gets real cold outside the pipe won’t freeze and burst. You learn something every day. Unless you’re careful.

And as much as I don’t want to contradict you Snickers, Haiku isn’t supposed to rhyme. I don’t know why not, it’s just the way it is. It’s also supposed to covey a “mood”. A non-rhymey mood. In 17 sylables.
