Meeting Michelle in Florida

[wondering where everyone went]

About the trip to the Everglades, I went on a canoe trip with Outward Bound last year with my school, and mosquitoes are a BIG problem. We were going through the Ten Thousand Islands, and we were trying to get to a specific island so that we could set up camp for the night. Well, it was about 10 o’clock, and the seas started getting rough, and our guides decided that we weren’t going to make it to the island we wanted to get to. So instead, we paddled for about another hour and a half to a bug and garbage ridden island called Fakahatchee. Avoid this island at ALL COSTS if you ever go down there. Even with 100% deet on, I couldn’t get those mosquitoes to stay away. So I had to bring 30 pounds of gear onto the beach, wading through knee-deep and freezing water. And when we were finished with that, we had to set up camp. When dinner came, the counselor accidentally dropped the pot of pasta that we had all been waiting 10 minutes to eat on the ground, so instead of that, we had cold bagels. Ugh.

So no camping in the Everglades, OK?

I could be doing something, but… why?

Just bringing this thread to the top! So what do y’all think of my idea?

Ft Meyers works for me. As does the Peace River. Or Tampa. Or Orlando.

Anyone sense a pattern? Have car will travel.

Wow - I show up on the thread, suddenly everyone’s hush-hush. Better bring it back up to the top. Don’t be shy to post, Michelle.

The thing with Ft. Myers is that that’s the easiest option for me, since I’m still guarded by my parents. Driving elsewhere may be very well impossible for me. But I need input to know whether this will work for everyone else, or if I should just wait 'till I go to FSU.

Okay, I just wanted to let everyone know that I will soon be e-mailing all who have expressed interest in coming down to Florida for a meeting. The only person I can’t contact is Voltaire, so this message is mainly for him. (hoping that “him” is the right pronoun.)

My ISP isn’t working (I’m using my dad’s computer), so I’m not sure how soon I’ll be able to send the e-mail. I hope that we’ll be able to set up an appropriate meeting time for all, possibly even here in Fort Myers. Hope to hear from all of you soon.

Have I got mail?

I’ll keep an eye on this thread for updates. Sorry about the ‘no email in my profile’ thing, but this is an account at work and if I made my email public there would be no telling what kind of stuff I would be receiving and I don’t want to unneccessarily open myself up for any problems. I do have a personal email account: voltair@bellsouth.net (yeah, no ‘e’ in voltaire, it was taken :frowning: ) But I can’t say that I check my email there to often. Since I’m on computers all day at work, the last thing I want to do when I get home is get on my computer to do anything. So any email I get there sometimes sits for weeks at a time. I’m a lazy SOB aren’t I?

Spiritus, Voltaire, the e-mail has been sent. Here’s the text, in case you don’t get it somehow.

Hello All. This E-mail is going to everyone that expressed interest in meeting here in Florida. I was hoping that maybe we could coordinate our off-time so that we could find a suitable time to meet. I also wanted to find out if anyone had any objection to meeting here in Fort Myers, since it seems that everyone is willing to drive, and I would be the one that would have the most difficulty driving elsewhere. I have the 20-26th of December off, as well as the 31st-3rd. I should also be available most weekends. Michelle has most of the weekdays off, which doesn’t present a problem for me, but I’m not sure about everyone else. Also, I was wondering if it would be wisest to hold this meeting during the afternoon, since some people might have a few hours’ drive in store. So if everyone could just let me know what dates are good for them, and also let me know whether they have any problem meeting here in Fort Myers, then we can get this thing rolling!

Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Voltaire: try hotmail or yahoo(actually better software). I have both. The trouble is my company decided to block me from those. But there are others, like www.deja.com which I have access to.

My employer records every piece of e mail I send, as well. By whichever route.
