Message from Polycarp

I put mine in the return address in lieu of my real name. I don’t think it would be perceived as a faux pas if we acknowledge our identities; at least I hope it isn’t.

Done. I’m sorry it couldn’t be more.

It sounded as if they wished you would!

Oh…yeah, you’re right. OK, no social gaffe on my part. I interpreted your post to imply that it might be considered as such, but apparently that’s not what you meant. On rereading the thread more thoroughly, it seems you’re right—they want to acknowledge us at some future time. I hope everything works out for them.

In my post # 60 I used the word “comprised” when I should have used the word “composed”. Thus, the grammar Nazis are appeased.

I just donated and also forgot to put in my username. Oh well. The important thing is that it’s done.

It has been two days. A status report!

They have my heart. As do you all.

Bill

They’re not appeased until you sacrifice a gerund.

Won’t someone perform a thinking of the gerunds?!

::sniffle::I am loving you people, man!

Didn’t Richard Gere have an incident with a gerund wrapped in duct tape a few years ago?

It was a duct-taping of the gerund that your thinking was of.

Ouch. That sentence hurts.

The gentleman and I are in. Please tell Polycarp and Skulldigger that another pesky 'Piscy has them in her prayers.

I may not post a lot, but I’ve been around a long enough to know that Polycarp is good people. Just made my donation and add now my best wishes.

What he said.

Of course it hurts — you’re ending with a preposition! It was a duct-taping of the gerund of which your thinking was. There, isn’t that better?

Already made my contribution, so I feel justified in making a post that’s even more inane than usual (if that’s possible).

Mine is in.

Is it a car’s worth, yet?

<sigh>…Ya know, I’ve really been torn about the whole “running total” thing. I’d love to yell out how we’re doing, but my fear has been that come tomorrow, those who don’t log on to the Dope on weekends will see the current number and think “Oh, well, they don’t need my money then”.

Well, here’s the deal – if you say we had a goal of $1,300, then yes, we met the goal. Actually, we met the goal, took it out for drinks, charmed it out of its skirt and had our way with it. However, I don’t think that was ever really the goal, because I don’t think one was ever set. Car or not, they’re still in a pretty good hole as I understand it. Hell, a few insurance payments would be a sweet bonus here.

So, anything that can be done for Polycarp and family is a very good thing. If people want to contribute, please contribute. Don’t let that fact that we’re currently at an awesome $1,753.43 (plus whatever we’ve got coming in the mail) sway you.

Trust me Hal, having run one of these before, the hard part about doing one of these is getting dopers to stop giving.
