Due to extensive cutbacks on Internet use at my workplace and the fact that I do not have home Internet access, I will be unable to continue as an active poster (or lurker) on the SDMB. I just want to thank all the friends I have made on this board for intellectual stimulation, electronic companionship, and all those things that make being a part of the SDMB membership so worthwhile. I wish you all the best, and you will be in my prayers (even those who would rather not! :)). I will miss you all. With any luck, I should be back sometime in the late spring, after I can set up home access. Until then, so long, and thanks for the Many Fish! --Polycarp
That really sucks. Polycarp was one of the most intelligent posters on the board and it’s a shame to lose him.
Poly, if you’re reading this: you know I used to work where you work and I know the management there. The internet thing might blow over soon. They threatened the same thing when I was there, but never enforced it. BTW, doesn’t Chip look like the Great Gazoo from the Flintstones?
You’re almost certainly right. However, unlike the situation when we were on AOL, at this site the administration can enforce a ban for life. It might take a little while, but his style is so distinctive (as is his short list of people and things he hates) that spotting him is never a serious problem.
Hey, Poly, get a move-on! You can get a used PC (or Mac ;)) for a few hundred bucks, and sign up for one of those free internet services. Hell, you could get a 486 (w/ monitor) for $100 if it comes to that. But I’m not sure if it’s about money…whatever it is, it is becoming easier and easier to get connected to the 'net.
So dammit, there is NO EXCUSE for you to deprive us of your wisdom for any longer than necessary, so GET A MOVE-ON!
