Messed up DVD

I bought several seasons of the X-Files off of Ebay (and they were NOT Asian Collector Editions!), and just found out that one and only one of the DVDs is scratched up. The rest of the seasons and even the boxes are in great condition, so I’m not blaming the seller or anything, but I’m wondering if anyone has any good ideas as to how I can replace this one disk?

Can you contact Fox, or whoever produced the DVDs? There ought to be a customer service number inside the packaging. When I bought the Scrubs DVD set (brand-new), one of the discs was badly scratched inside the packaging. I contacted Buena Vista Home Video, and they asked me to mail them the scratched disc, and sent a replacement once they received it. They didn’t even ask a lot of questions, but mailed me a form to fill out and include with the scratched disc.

If you can’t get Fox to replace it, I’ve had good results with a thing called DiscDr. It’s a $25 or so gizmo. Most record stores seem to sell it around here.

The disc will look terrible once the process is done, but it should be playable. The DiscDr process leaves a very hazy look, but the player’s laser can see through the haze to the layers where the data is.
