"The Chosen Collection" -- well, most of it.

I got Buffy the Vampire Slayer – The Chosen Collection for Christmas. Yay! So of course I’ve been watching the series again, starting with Season 1 Disc 1 Episode 1, and it turns out that Disc 2 is busted. Boo.

Not “busted” in the sense of “shattered,” just that it won’t let me watch the last two episodes on the disc. I’ve tried it with two different DVD players, and am sending it home with a co-worker tonight to triple-check. It’s really kind of annoying, but not worth returning the set for. Disc 1 was fine, and Disc 3 has been fine so far … I’ll have to try a random sampling of other discs later, perhaps starting with the one containing “Once More, With Feeling.” If that won’t play, I will return the set.

Anyway, it’s just kind of frustrating to have an entire series except for two episodes. :frowning:

Try mailing it back to the manufacturer. They’ll probably send you a replacement.

You should absolutely return it. Unless you got it off some half-in-the-bag dude at the back of a Greyhound bus, the merchant will replace it with a package that works.

When I bought the Scrubs season 1 set, the back of disc 1 was badly scratched when I first opened the package. I contacted Buena Vista Home Video and mailed them the damaged disc, and they mailed me a replacement that was just fine. You should contact Fox’s customer service department, and I’m sure they’ll take care of you.

Well, one reason I’m hesitant to return it is that it was a Christmas gift that my mom purchased via Amazon: she probably doesn’t have the order number anymore. Trying to coordinate with her to return something could quite possibly be more annoying than not being able to watch two episodes of Buffy.

The main reason is this: if all of the other discs are fine, why bother? I figure I run an equal risk of getting a bum disc in another set, only next time it could be in the middle of Season 5 and I won’t discover it for 4 months or something.

But, the more I think about it, the more it annoys me. I’ll see what my co-worker says tomorrow: I have a cheap DVD player at home, and the other one I tried it on was my laptop’s player, so maybe it’ll work on a “good” player. The disc looks perfectly fine. If it doesn’t work for her, though, maybe I’ll call my mother and see what info she might still have (or see about getting temporary access to her account so I can handle it myself, or something).

Hmm, that’s definitely worth thinking about – and would probably be easier/cheaper than returning the entire set. Thanks!

That’s all I meant. Deal with the manufacturer, not the retailer, and only return the damaged disc to get a replacement. I’m sure this happens more and more these days.

I have the Chosen Collection too, and while I looked through every disc to make sure they’re all unique and not scratched, I’ve only watched season 7 so far. I hope they’re all playable.
