Methinks there are still a few bugs in the system...

Ah, My First Pit Rant[sup]TM[/sup]. Where to begin?

About two months ago, in preparation for moving into my new apartment, I went online to set up my new phone service with a Certain Phone Company Whose Name Begins with V (henceforth known just as V), figuring it would probably be easier to sort through all the plan options online, without any pressure from a customer service rep to get a more expensive plan or what-have-you. And so, I set up my new local and long-distance service through V online to start at the beginning of June.

Now, I didn’t actually move in to the apartment and test the phone service until around June 25th, at which time I discovered that I had no long-distance service. I called V and found out that sometime between sending me a confirmation email and actually communicating with their system, the internet set-up forgot I had asked V to also be my long-distance provider. Which seems a bit odd, as you’d think it would be eager to take my money for any services it possibly can, but oh well, since I hadn’t actually been living there, no big deal.

Until today, July 27th, when I receive a random piece of junk advertising from V, which prompts my brain to ponder why I still haven’t gotten a phone bill from them when, theoretically, I’ve had at least some form of phone service with V since June 3rd. So I call, which is in and of itself a tremendous feat, as finding a customer service number that doesn’t already require one to have received a bill and have access to arcane numbers printed on said bill is damn near impossible. Finally, I get to talk to a real, live person* who tells me that they indeed, sent me a bill all the way back on June 27th, but I didn’t get it because…:mad:

…the internet set-up system gave them my billing address as… :mad:

Melandry
Apt #7
Boston, MA
02115
.
:smack::mad:

That was my billing address, in its entirety. C’mon, the zip code isn’t even the correct one for my location. But did it occur to them to call me (they do, after all, have my phone number) and ask what my real billing address is? Oh no. Although, they did somehow get the correct address to send their crappy solicitation to, but I guess that’s more important than my bill, anyway. Right? :rolleyes: They just send my bill out to that address, and it must’ve come right back to them, but still, they make no more effort to get in touch with me.

Luckily, the bill wasn’t due until Monday, so no loss of service resulted (what would I have done without internet access!), and the very nice girl I talked to promised to waive the late fees since this certainly wasn’t my fault, but lord help me if I will ever again attempt to do anything more serious than finding a phone # on V’s website ever again.

*Who was actually very nice and extremely helpful.

I know, I know, lacking in vitriol and obscenities, but everything seems to have been resolved ok, so no burning wrath.

I feel your pain. I went without telephone service for several months because I typoed in one of those fields signing up for local telephone service. I recognized it immediately after doing so and sent out e-mails as well as calling the customer service hotline. They confirmed that the address was corrected (!). This was in May. In August, I was supposed to get hooked up. I called every day for three weeks before someone finally noticed that my account wasn’t hooked up because the address was bad. Several dozen other people simply said “It’ll be hooked up in the next day or two” without actually LOOKING at the account. URGH!
