Over that same weekend, Borders is having its annual Ann Arbor tent sale. A combination of bargain books, returns that couldn’t go back to the publisher/label, slightly damaged merchandise, and stuff they plain bought too much off. Big savings* … anyone who wants to join me, should!
*[sub]I work for a certain Ann Arbor-based chain of bookstores, entitling me to a substanial discount at this event on top of regular savings.[/sub]
Holy shoot and shinola, I’ve caught the butt end of this when they were practically giving crap away. I remember I got a whole bunch of beanie babies for $1 each. I know, I know, you’re thinking “Beanie Babies, Gross” But I used them for the next year in care packages to soldiers and kids in need from the Ebay giving board. Really.
We are so there.
BTW, the Glee Club hasn’t returned my call. Perhaps, given the vast size of Hill, it’s safe to assume we don’t need to get tickets in advance? I know they are selling them at the door.
Paul, I wish I could help you out, but if I added your three to my own son (which my husband is staying home to watch) he’d drop dead. I hope you find someone.
Hey I did hear back from the Glee club. I forgot to tell you guys though! here’s the dope on advance tickets:
The Brahms Requiem is being performed on Sunday, October 7th, at Hill Auditorium. The concert is at 3:00 PM, and tickets are $5.00, general admission to be sold at the door. It is possible to purchase the tickets via credit card through our office, (734)764-1448, however, they will not be sent out, and we aren’t pre-selling at the Hill box office, therefore, tickets must be picked up the day of the performance at Hill Auditorium regardless as to whether they are purchased in advance or at the performance.
Okay, does that mean I can get tickets at the door or not?
Oh, and please add Mr. Persephone to the list of atttendees. We’ll be driving ourselves, so I won’t need to scam that ride from Bunny.
Had a smart attack today (write that down, folks, it does not happen often at all). My son (Johnzilla) will be celebrating his 2nd birthday this Tuesday, the 2nd. Since that’s during the week, it’s difficult for us to go visit Grandma on his birthday (we all have jobs). Then I remembered something–Grandma lives in Ann Arbor. Ding! Let’s celebrate Sunday the 7th! In the early afternoon! Then leave the chillens with Grandma while we attend Geobabe’s concert! And guess what? Grandma said okay! Yay Grandma!
I got a present??? From Stonehenge??? Cool!!!
[sub]of course, knowing mrblue, it’s probably a tshirt that says something like “my friend visited the most mystical place on the planet and all I got was this lousy tshirt,” but hey, it’s still from Stonehenge. And it’s the thought that counts. :D[/sub]
Okay, anyone who wants to meet at my house, contact me via email for directions. kzaruba@umich.edu
Anyone who is meeting at Hill Auditorium: There are FIVE front entrances to Hill (Five sets of double doors, all facing front, typical big-venue setup). Let’s meet at the WESTERNMOST doors, which means the set of doors that would be on YOUR LEFT when you are facing Hill Auditorium head-on.
We should probably try to meet up at those doors around 2:45, which means we need to leave my house by 2:20 or 2:25.
After discussion last weekend, we thought perhaps our best bet for an after-concert dinner would be a nice cheap pizza/italian dive, rather than some fancy place that shows off Ann Arbor’s coolness factor.
Well, no babysitters available. So that rules out Mrs. Younger and I. Again.
Sooner or later I’m gonna get me to one of these here fests.
On the off chance I don’t take advantage of tomorrow to finish up my bathroom renovations, post here and let me know which pizza place, OK Cranky?
Geo, I’ll miss hearing your performance. May your heart be filled with the joy of music, and your song ring out clear and golden. [sub] and, uhhh, break a leg and stuff…[/sub]
Cranky, Bunny, and I were discussing dinner last weekend, and one place that was mentioned was Thanos Lamplighter. I think we’d kinda actually decided on it, in fact. Hope that helps!
Yeah, I think we’re a “go” for Thano’s Lamplighter, which is on East Liberty (about a block west of the Michigan Theater). However, I had this paranoid freak-out attack today that maybe it’s not open on Sunday. No reason to think that, except that I never eat there so I don’t know. Our back up in such an event will be the Cottage Inn restaurant on William (pretty much one block south). THere are lots of “cottage inn” pizza places, but this is the central location that’s more of a restaurant.
Try Thanos first, but if we’re not there (or it’s closed) Cottage Inn is the backup place.
Paul, sorry to hear you won’t be able to make it. I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of you tomorrow. I don’t know if I’ll be able to chat with y’all before the concert, but of course I definitely will after! I won’t need to save my voice any more, so I can yack yack yack until the cows come home.
I described to Cranky where I will be standing, so maybe you’ll be able to pick me out of the crowd. I’ll be in the back row cuz I’m tall, so maybe somebody should bring some binoculars. Hmm.
Y’all are in for a treat. I heard them sing in DC and also at Towson University. If they use the same arangement, Geo will be on the back right. She’s the one with a halo of pure light around her head and Seraphim harmonizing with her.
If she sings beautifully tomorrow, I want at least some of the credit. I have kept things so dull and mind-numbingly boring for poor Geo during her visit, she’s had no choice but to give up and retire to the basement dungeon we’re keeping her in at a mighty respectable hour each night.
Has she seen Ann Arbor? Have I regaled her with witty anecdotes about nearby Dopers? Has she been shown the sights of this fair city? Have a introduced her to my wittiest friends? Have I treated her to the cultural resources that make this town the gem that it is?
No, the poor woman has had to stare at the same four walls in the suburbs, making conversation with a bratty 2-yr old and the strung-out yet subdued mother of same. And then there’s my beloved husband, whom you can maybe pry two words out of with a crowbar–maybe–when a stranger is around.
At least my cat is interesting.
Oh, who am I kidding. Even he’s not interesting. He’s plump, I’ll give you that. But he’s not interesting.
Dave saw the arrangement sans men, so it will look just a little different this time. No Seraphim, I’m sure.
Here I was worried that Cranky was going to think I was a complete lame-ass, going to bed so early, and turns out she thinks she’s boring me. I just got about 3 hours of sleep Thursday night, and had a complete nightmare getting here, so I’m still recovering. The 8-hour rehearsal yesterday was pretty draining as well–I hadn’t been singing much lately, so it was kind of like not working out and then trying to run a marathon. I was a little tired at the end of it.
