Michael Moore, you are a hypocritical lying sack of shit

I feel so loved.

Thanks, CrankyAsAnOldMan, I’ll try harder.

Actually, Matt, I am not an idiot, despite your half-assed attempt at using the Master’s words to “support” the laughable notion Moore wasn’t lying. In fact, I think I’m pretty smart, and my reading comprehension skills are very good. Moore’s column wasn’t a joke; he was, as he does in almost all of his on-line diaries, stating what he claims to be the truth. Why don’t you try READING them? He includes jokes sometimes. But most of them are dead serious, actually, and all have serious points, as anyone who takes ten minutes to read them will discover.

“But it was just a joke!” is surely the most pathetic excuse imaginable. If it WAS a joke I’d see your point. It wasn’t, as is evident to anyone who can read. Moore can actually be funny when he wants to be. I have a pretty darned good sense of humour and I know a joke when I see one. No intelligent person can honesty read his account of the San Diego incident and think it’s tongue in cheek.

Let’s be honest; Moore has some things to say, but he’s also a dishonest ideologue who slants everything to suit his personal beliefs, and isn’t the slightest bit hesistant to lie if it suits him. I don’t really think the incident itself is a very big deal, but lying about it when dozens of eyewitnesses are around to say he’s lying was stupid and tasteless.

Again, I invite anyone to READ MOORE’S BOOK TOUR DIARIES, the last of which is linked above. They aren’t tongue in cheek. Believe it or not, folks, there are liars on all parts of the political spectrum, and Moore’s one of them.

If Guinastasia is going after him, then we know he’s really fucked up pretty badly!

It seems almost that Moore has lost the Right, Left, and radical Middle. Who’s remaining on his side - the mulatto touch-typists?

Well, hey. I don’t care what side you’re on, a jackass is a jackass.

Someone who treats us little guys, us storeworkers like shit is an asshole. Period.

Heh. I’ve never liked Moore. He’s simply the Rush of the left.

i think M. Moore might be in need of a fact checker.

http://www.snopes.com/rumors/flight.htm

as scoobyTX pointed out, his message board is still down. over loaded with hits. could that be because of us? or snopes’ article? or is he just running away with his tail between his legs? i consider myself liberal, but GODDAMN michael, i’ve had enough of your shit. i hope no publisher picks up any of your books. i hope no film distributors pick up any of your films. i hope your show gets dropped. you’re no better than fox news or newsmax.

As a representative of the mulatto touch-typist union #434, I am offended on behalf of all my clients, by your comment. But I dislike Mr. Moore even more, so I’ll let you off easy. Write a 100 word essay on the importance of mulatto touch-typists in the history of the United State’s of America. I want it on my desk, or posted here, by 7:00 a.m.

Yet more Moore foolishness…

In this interview, Moore, asked about a plan to limit chain restaurants in Arcata, California, said the following:

While I applaud the free-market sentiment, good lord, how offensive is it to characterize all small buisinesspeople as “rednecks”?

I also note this item from National Review’s “The Corner” blog page:

Did I miss an annoucement? Is March the official “Michael Moore makes an ass out of himself” month?

Umm… I’m going to see Michael Moore speak on Saturday. Hey! Owww! Don’t hurt me!

Umm… Jesse Jackson Jr is gonna be there too. Oww! Good lord, stop!

Errr… Jim Hightower will also be speaking. Aaaahhh!! That’s my leg you bastards! Owch! Holy shit!

Just want to chime in and add that I don’t see the humour in the article.

If we had a frame of reference, if we read it knowing only two police came, if we were already clued in on what really happened, we might have been aware that it was an exaggeration for “laffs”, but there’s no tip off. And even if I’d been there, I still wouldn’t have found the article funny - it’s just not. I have seen people do a good job of using exaggeration for comedic effect, and this doesn’t qualify. I’m very disappointed in Michael Moore.

Say it’s supposed to be humorous all you want - I found it misleading and deceptive, and it’s destroyed my faith in his credibility. The few who “get” it are massively outweighed by those who think he’s playing straight.

Whoa! Let’s step back for a sec.
OK, so Michael Moore, is a hyperbolic, weasely little faux populist. So what?
Why pick on Moore, exactly? Again, Chris Matthews, of whom I infer that DCU is a great fan, Bill O’Reilly and Rush are all guily of the same sin twice over. More importantly, they have also twice the platform with which to spew venom while hiding in populist drag. If we don’t like the faux populist nonsense, let’s go after the worst practitioners, not the ones whose views we like the least. Attacking with an ideological axe those views you disagree with – that’s called **selective prosecution[/b, or my fave: Cuba Rules.

Further, I can understand if by accident you were exposed to these upsetting views. Lord knows I stumble across Rush all the time, and it immediately depresses me that this Rush has an audience for his bullshit. But Michael Moore, he just has his hard-fought for book, which I assume you didn’t buy, and a web log. How do you stumble across a web log?

Let’s try this. You went to the site to get upset and got upset. And why did you go to the site? Because Moore’s everywhere right now, and needs to be knocked down a peg, right? Just like Dashle, Rall, and Krugman, before him, if I recall. In fact, the sentence construction “does an absolute disservice” – BLARGH – how many times have we seen this construction? Dashle does a disservice… Ashcroft thinks stimulus bill does a disservice. Are you all reading from the same talking points?

Perhaps I do the conversation a disservice by spying yet another coordinated demonizing. Perhaps you even agree with Mr. Moore and his views but just don’t like his auditorium hogging ways? Or maybe, it’s hypocrites you can’t stand? In that case, to you, and also for those who think that Moore’s actions were head-shaking, I recommend checking out Blinded by the Right: The Conscience of an Ex-Conservative by David Brock. Chock full of unrefuted accounts of the true conservative family values. More hypocrites than you can shake a lying sack of shit at.

And just for the record, thanks for the laugh! "But two wrongs do not make a right. It is patently stupid to justify Moore’s actions by saying “Ann Coulter does awful things, too.” this para, while having nothing whatsoever to do with my point, made me bust out lauging! I’m sure most of the SDMB’ers are aware that not two weeks goes by without some member of the Bush Administration using a variant of “Clinton did it too?”. Clinton ramped up the nukes, Clinton caused the Middle East, Clinton took down the SDMB, bwa hah ha! You heard it here first, DCU and Ace0Spades agree! ** The Bush Administration is patently stupid**!

And you know how they feel about patent rights!

And you made this inference how, exactly?

Incidentally, I’ve always found it odd that Matthews is somehow lumped into the “conservative” camp. This is a guy who was a speechwriter for Jimmy Carter and was one of Tip O’Neill’s top assistants. And apparently, as of late he’s been sharply critical of neoconservatism (scroll down to the Goldberg posts of 1:25pm and 12:16pm).

At any rate, FTR, I think Matthews’s show is sometimes entertaining, but I’m hardly a serious fan. I’m rarely home in time for it, and even when I am there’s usually something better to do.**

Again, with the “two wrongs make a right” defense? **

Actually, I was first referred to the Trib article. I then went to Moore’s site to investigate the incident for myself. **

Ah, that is your point: that because certain conservatives say awful things, Moore should get a pass. **

**And this is the meta “two wrongs make a right” defense: it’s OK to use the two-wrongs defense because others also use the two-wrongs defense.

My problem with the Moore pile on is that it is completely out of proportion to ANY possible sin that has yet been put forward.

He didn’t vacate the hall within 15 minutes of his time and the janitor * CALLS THE POLICE? * Oh yeah, * that’s * appropriate!

Which is not to claim that Moore was * right * in refusing to go at the janitor’s request, only that his wrongness was pretty minor, both in being FIFTEEN FRIGGIN MINUTES OVER, and in being uncooperative with the janitor, whose need to go home ** right now, ** and screw * everybody * else was not that earth shattering to begin with. It wasn’t 3 am, he hadn’t gone 3 hours over. We’re talking about 15 goddamn minutes and he’s flipping out calling the cops. And Moore is a gigantic asshole because he didn’t want to blow off the people who had been waiting for hours to get his autograph? When and how did the janitor get elevated to a place of saintliness in his need to go home ** right now ** , but everybody else’s time and energy and effort in being there was totally meaningless?

Then Moore reported the facts of the incident accurately, just with a different point of view about it, which was emotional and hyperbolic, because that’s the kind of guy he is. I haven’t seen any ** lie ** anywhere, just differing points of view on the same event.

Given this, and given the completely over-the-top demonization of his role and his reporting of this incident, I believe I’ll have to call this a partisan pile-on. And a pretty lame one to boot.

And good Lord, I know you’re not the type to stand for mere partisanship on this good message board.

Oh, and Guinastasia, welcome to the partisan conservatives of the SDMB.

Stoid, did you read the snopes link that ** ubermensch
** posted? I found the story there much more disturbing, and Snopes is hardly a bastion of conservative ideaology.

There’s no ambiguity with the Snopes article - the man is a filthy liar.

Oh, come on, it was clearly tongue in cheek.

I was tipped off as soon as I saw, “Every day, every night, hundreds – or thousands – jam themselves into halls, arenas, churches, auditoriums to listen to me talk about my book and whatever else is struggling to make its way through my brain. Forget about standing room only – these venues look more like breathing room only.” and other similar lines, I was sure, this must be a joke.

I dislike hypocrisy no matter where it rears its ugly head. Right behind it on my dislike list is blind support of the hypocritical because of partisanship.

Michael Moore is being hypocritical in his statements about the book-signing stop in San Diego, in my opinion.

Does anyone else find it ironic that Moore now apparently shares the same opinion of the police as the NRA did several years ago, when they sent out a letter referring to the police as “jack-booted thugs”?

Some people really need to crank their irony filters up a couple of notches (applies to the Bonsai Kitten rant too).

Deliberately being dense, are we? That’s a shock. FTR the arguments are: A) Selective Prosecution and B) So what?

They add up to one of those annoying Democratic concepts: equality and justice for all, maybe you skipped that class? Here’s an obscure quote that might refresh your memory:

"What is hateful to you, do not to your fellow men. That is the entire Law; all the rest is commentary."

-The Talmud

Really? I posted one of his lies in an earlier reply in this thread. He suggested that he didn’t know what the prolem was with his actions, and posited “curfew violation” as a sarcastic explanation. He knew exactly what the problem was. He may have disagreed with the response (of the janitor AND police) , but he lied when he claims ignorance about the problem.
