Sir Thoroncir shrugs off his injury and charges at the closest, densest grouping of Undead, swinging his longsword with gusto. He will avoid their touch, bashing away with his shield any that get too close. *“Elendil!” *he cries.
Very nice! I’ve been wanting to do that for quite some time!
Pleased with his spellwork but wary of the fact that he can’t repeat that, Deor will take his staff in his left hand and his torch in his right and prepare to defend himself if need be. He’ll keep a sharp eye out above us and behind us, just in case.
Gwaelur follows Thoroncir into the fray with a battle cry of his own.
Gawelur follows Thoroncir into the the fray with his own…less verbal battle cry.
Elfstan watches over his friends, checking to see if any need aid. He scans the room for signs of threats that could catch the company unaware. It feels odd not trying to stab some of these creatures, but the day is just getting started and his invisibility may yet come in very handy.
The shield wall broken and the enemy reeling, Bitur will back up his compatriots in the fray, taking out those that either try to get by them or can’t yet get to them.
Aah, well. So much for invisibility.
On with the missile show.
Hraedsig is encouraged by the prowess of his extremely capable new companions:
“Foul creatures, you have met your match! Prepare for oblivion - HAAA!!!”
5 of the creatures are in their holes turned.
16 turned monsters (**6 burning **4 smoldering)
23 at 22 damage & 5 healthy monsters
Thoroncir
Gwaelur
Hraedsig Bitur
Mulligan Brin Gil-Gandel Gilraen
Elfstan
DeorGhân
Thoroncir wades in somewhat foolishly. Gilraen will remind him that breaking the shield wall was dangerous and an unneeded risk. Every cure light she does not use on the party might save another life from one of the armies. He looks for a healthy one and hits it and kills it but 4 of the injured strike at him and one hits for another 11 bringing his total to 19.
Gwaelur takes his two swings and drops 2 injured ones. Two miss him.
Bitur and Hraedsig clear another 4 injured. None get to swing at this pair.
Gil-Gandel sends three arrows into 3 injured targets and drops all three.
Brin and Mulligan take out 4 more between them.
In between missiles and melee Ghân drops another Produce Fire and finishes off 9 of the injured and gets one of the healthy for 6 points.
Gilraen turns the remaining to prevent 5 to make for easy targets and the party advanced to stay near the frontline fighters.
Thoroncir takes out two more this round, one healthy and one injured, Gwaelur gets a badly injured and a badly burnt. Bitur concentrates on all three of his attacks on a healthy turned one and slays it. Hraedsig finishes off a burning one.
Mulligan fires the +3 dwarven bullets at burning ones and drops two. Gil-Gandel sticks to a healthy one and pumps three arrows into its back. It drops. Brin hits twice and injures one.
The turned ones now turn to defend themselves, backs against the wall. The shield wall can and does reform for mutual protection.
Thoroncir misses as Gwaelur finishes off a burnt one and injures another with his axe.
Bitur hits a healthy one twice and Hraedsig gets finishes it off and kills the last burnt one.
Mulligan puts two +3 dwarven bullets into a healthy one as Brin finishes off his own and then Mulligan’s. Gil-Gandel hits twice injuring one.
The remaining 7 missed everyone but Hraedsig who takes 8.
Thoroncir kills two healthy foes as Gwaelur kills and injured one. Bitur hits 3 times and kills one. Hraedsig finishes off an injured one. Mulligan has no target but Gil-Gandel gets 3 arrows into the last healthy one. Brin hits one afraid of hitting a Dwarf. It is very injured. This last one misses Bitur.
** Elfstan near the rear hears a call for help! **
Bitur and Gwaelur kill the last creature on the floor.
Elfstan shouts a warning to the others. He then heads towards the cries with haste, but not entirely throwing caution to the wind.
That’s assuming the cry for help is from the direction of the rearguard. If it’s not, Elfstan will just alert the others and follow the pack.
Gwaelur is still a bit amped from the unexpected battle and looking around to see that the mass in front of him is defeated, turns to follow Elfstan to the cry for help.
Pleased with the party’s progress, Deor will follow Elfstan, keep an eye out behind the party in case these monsters re-re-animate, or something.
His foes in this chamber having now been defeated, Thoroncir turns in response to Elfstan’s shouted warning. He mutters an apology to his front-line comrades for breaking the shield wall: “Forgive me, my friends; sometimes I just get a little carried away in battle.” He is hurting and slowed a bit, but still eager for a fight.
“Well fought, friends! But let us not be hasty. We should quickly re-arrange ourselves into fighting order before rushing headlong toward that cry behind us. Form up!”
Ghân will check that no new foes are upon the party.
If there’s time, he uses a Cure Serious Woundson Thoroncir and Goodberries on further injuries.
(He makes sure he’s not duplicating Gilraen’s efforts…)
“I have not seen that type of Berry before, Ghân. What do they do?”
Bitur addresses Throncier a bit gruffly “The time for reflection and apologies comes later. Right now, someone needs our aid. I also agree with Hraesdig that we should reform before we rush off willy nilly.”
Gilraen reminds, “There are still at least 5 we’ll need to deal with in the burial chamber.”
Side note: There are a lot of magical missile on the floor and smoldering/burning recently undead.
The party takes enough time to form up, except for the invisible Elfstan who is scouting ahead. The passage is only 8’ wide though, so it is 2 wide the party goes.
Elfstan
Gwaelur Thoroncir
Hraedsig Bitur
Deor Gil-Gandel
Gilraen Ghân
Brin Mulligan
As the party moved down the hall, both Humans are racing to the party. “Undead!” says Gellin. “Miron and the Dwarves are doing a slow retreat. Miron says they are Wight types. The Dwarves are nervous.”
Ghân gets 8 Goodberries to all three injured but Thoroncir is off to aid those in need. So Thoroncir is down 11, Hraedsig is full and Gwaelur is only down 2. Hraedsig discovers the Goodberries heal 1 hp per berry but the limit is 8 per day.
Miron, Víli & Jari are formed up under one of the normal torches. Víli has the magical torch in one hand and his magic shield in the other. The 2 wights appear to be afraid of the magical torch. They close in but retreat every time he moves it at them. Miron is firing arrows at them. They seem to hit but then the wights discorporate and the arrows drop to the ground.
Elfstan quickly checks back to the west room that had the stairs as the wights came from the east.
As he is moving toward Elfstan Gwaelur says:
"My helm worked even better than I had hopped. I don’t suppose anyone has a second level Light spell loaded up do they? I can’t perform another blast like that without one.
Well, I suppose I could spend some serious time in the sunlight to recharge it but that is a luxury we can’t afford right now."
“Thank you, Ghân. Those berries are most welcome.”
Nevertheless, I think I am still down 3 from a cold touch.
