Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

Ghân explains that he can cast the spell to get 2-8 Goodberries each time. A single berry either heals 1 hit point (but there’s a limit on how many you can only use) or provides a nourishing meal.

Ghân asks “Do you mean the 1st level Clerical Spell Light? Only Gilraen can load that.”

Gwaelur looks slightly embarrased by his lack of knowledge regarding his own helm “Um…possibly. What I don’t know about magic could fill a book. I don’t suppose you loaded that spell did you Gilraen? If not, it might be a good thing to remember for next time.”

Deor notes dryly “That’s ok- me too.”

If the wights are incorporeal, Deor may try a Magic Missile, at least if the party can’t get them otherwise. Web would be an exercise in futility.

What’s Miron loosing off? I may be better armed than him - I certainly have a better bow. Lindorn sang a splendid tune just now.

Otherwise, I can surely flame these wights to a crisp if I go to sword.

Miron was using +1 and +2 arrows. He has shot 4 so far and is giving up.

Gilraen answers Gwaelur, “There is a long duration light spell I can cast though I never have before.” (There are no continual light spells in this world so I have a long lasting light spell at 2nd instead for clerics and something else for Wizards and Illusionists. No reason why any of you should have known this though.)

ShadowFacts, thanks I forgot that 3.

Thoroncir and Bitur have weapons specifically to fight the undead. Might as well let them have a shot? Beside Elfstan has come back quick and reported there are goblins forming up in the west room. At least a dozen and some have light crossbows.

Elfstan to the party, “We have trouble coming in the form of goblins from the west room too. How about we prepare a defense for them while Thoroncir and Bitur deal with the wights?”

With that, he will head back towards that room to be able to warn the party when the goblins are coming.

Realizing his axe will be useless to take on the wights, Bitur full out attacks the closest one with his shield.

(If I’m reading it right, I’ll only get one attack per round with it, right? And do I lose it’s protection when fighting with it always, or do I need to drop the (currently useless) axe to get protection, or do I get the protection regardless? Just curious.)

Deor will help face off against the goblins- they scare him less, and his spells will be more useful there, if they’re needed at all.

Thoroncir will help Bitur attack the wights, laying about him with great enthusiasm with his longsword. “Elendil!”

Very well, the rest of us prepare to take on the goblins. While we’re down a couple of tough fighters, let’s promote a couple of our guests to [del]meat shield[/del] front rank. Vili, Jari, in you go. Maintain the formation. We have the firepower to beat goblins in a missile duel.

A missile duel with Goblins.

Sounds like fun.

Hraedsig thinks it might be best for him to stick with the wights, so he remains and will attempt to turn them before wading in with his sword and shield. He has battled wights before, and will be on guard to try to avoid any energy drain.

Gilraen suggests to Hraedsig that he helps against the orcs. If turning needs to be done, I can do it. Víli seems to be holding them at bay. We need front line fighters against the goblins.

There are another dozen Goblins behind the first dozen. Elfstan is still in the west room. He is scouting and waiting for a worthwhile opportunity.

(3 rounds) Víli retreats a bit and pull the magic torch back. When the wights close in Thoroncir strikes and strikes hard. The wight misses Thoroncir. Bitur strikes with Axe and Shield and both appear to hit and Sten fires his crossbow bolts into the same wight. The wight misses Bitur. Víli moves forward and drives the torch into Bitur’s wight which retreats. Thoroncir and Bitur both attack the other wight as Víli hold off the one. Sten fires another bolt and hit this wight. Thoroncir hits twice as Bitur hits once with shield and axe and the wight dies. Víli pulls back again and Thoroncir and Bitur attack the remaining wight and dispatch it without harm!

Meanwhile:
As the Goblins come around the corner, missiles fly. Two 2 bullets from Mulligan both score. Gwaelur kills one by crossbow and grabs up his Axe and Shield. Miron hits 3 times as does Gil-Gandel and Brin twice. They send 8 bolts into the party. Gellin is hit for 4 and Gwaelur for 3 (5 total).

The goblins charge and Hraedsig quickly dispatches three as Jari gets one and Gwaelur 2 and Gellin gets one as the grimly march forward in rank. As the back ranks are turning the corner they are met by 5 arrows and a bullet. Elfstan gives a triumphant all clear shout of joy as 24 goblins died almost immediately.
Sorry ShadowFacts, you caught me just as I was about post.

With the all clear given, Bitur suggests we reform up and finish clearing out the Burial chamber.

Oh my god! I’m not on the little map! They must have already eaten me!

Somewhat miffed at the fact that this fight was over before Deor could even think about getting a spell off (those Goblins would have been a good target for a Sleep, and most things in here seem to be too strong for that now), Deor will content himself with peering interestedly down the hallway to make sure we’re not being flanked from a third direction.

Not a problem. Battle is chaotic, and one is not always able to make decisions quickly enough before circumstances dictate

“Well done, my friends, well done!” Thoroncir calls. Looks like he, Gwaelur and Gellin could use some healing, if Gilraen and Ghan would be so kind…

Ah, yes. Thank you Thoroncir. In the heat of battle I had failed to notice the wound.

I agree with Bitur that we should take a moment to regroup and get back into our organized sweep of the chambers.
