Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

Ghân has one 4th level spell left, so will use Produce Flame , provided he can get a bunch of flammable Mummies in the area of effect.

Ghân drops a Produce Flame on the retreating flammable Mummies. As they are packed tightly into the passage he gets 16 at once this time. Doing 8 points on each and setting them on fire.

I’m sure Produce Fire would be more to the point :stuck_out_tongue:

There is a resounding crack and a large boom of the stone altar collapsing. Jari and Víli let out a cheer.

And as the Elf with the extra sharp ear pointed out, that was a Produce Fire spell Ghân used.

Watching nervously as the mummies stretch his Web all out of shape, Deor slowly backs down the hall, ready to cast another at a moment’s notice. Until that point, he’ll stand braced and ready to sprint back to the cover of the party if he has to.

"When you’ve got that under control, I need some help on this end! Be careful with flame- it’ll burn the Web!

128hp of damage, plus more to come - it worked, didn’t it?!

Thoroncir thinks, "Whoa… deja vu all over again!"

Hraedsig loves it when a plan comes together

Yes, but the 4th-level Druid spell is Produce Fire, not Produce Flame, Mr Teaches D&D For A Living :stuck_out_tongue:

Well I know that’s true - but I don’t load the spell normally, since Cure Serious Wounds / Protection from Lightning / Dispel Magic / Call Woodland Beings / Speak with Plants are all more useful.
In this game, there are two major variants on casting:

 • Ghân can cast any spell loaded as often as he has spells available at that level (so Ghân ‘loads’ 7 different 1st level spells and can choose to cast any one of them up to 7 times )
 • Ghân can cast spells by ‘sacrificing’ spells of different levels (e.g. cast a 2nd level spell by losing 3 1st level spells )

So I’m ‘loading’ huge numbers of spells - it’s not 1st Edition, but always go with your DM…

So what is next? There are burning mummies to the north and webbed to the south and a broken altar.

“Eat steel, flaming undead bastards!!!”

Did anything out of the ordinary happen when the altar broke? Maybe someone can check to see if it’s still radiating evil?

“Can we leave a few front line fighters in this north hall and move the rest to the south? Once we have some troops down there, lighting Deor’s web might cause some nice results!”

I’d Detect, but I’m slightly busy hacking away at undead.

Actually at the moment the the mummies have retreated and there is only burning bodies in front of the front line.

Sir Thoroncir renews his call to follow and destroy the remaining mummies.

Just to clarify, the path in front of you has many burning bodies. It will be hot, nasty and a strong possibility of being lit on fire.

Hmmm. Well, if we can’t make our way through it, it might make just as effective a barrier to our foes… at least until the flames die down. Thoroncir would be glad to remain here on guard for the moment, perhaps with just one or two other fighters, while everyone else goes to help Deor.

Actually, a better idea might be for a couple of people using missile weapons who can fire over/through the flames to keep an eye on them, while all the front line fighters go to assist Deor.

That means you Sir Thoroncir. Now why don’t you go and stand over by Gilraen while she is singing by the people who are dealing with the undead over by Deor.

I’m sure you would prefer to ensure she is well protected now, don’t you?
