Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

If there’s no immediate danger, Ghân will use Cure Light Wounds where needed.

Bitur agrees with Mulligan that having the missile throwers keep an eye on the retreating burning mummies while the frontliners assist Deor is a wise course of action.

Gilraen stops singing and takes a long slow drink and gargles a bit. “My apologies, I had to stop.”

There is thankfully no need for any cure lights.

Hraedsig Detects Evil on the broken altar and finds it is very weak now.

The archers stay near the north passage with Mulligan. The others see that the web is holding well.

The Dwarves and Ghân are fairly fire proof for a variety of reasons. They could easily clear a path for the party to move through in the north passage.

These weak creatures will take forever to force their way through a Web. Incombustibles, to the fore, and let’s have at it: North passage it is.

Well, if the web’s in good shape, I say we tank types make a flame retardant advancing wall through the north passage.

Could Hraedsig or Gilraen invoke a blessing or do some kind of exorcism to remove any last taint of evil on the broken altar?

And by all means, let’s clear and move forward through the north passage.

Gwaelur and Bitur clear a narrow path with the help of Ghân who is completely immune to this fire. The rest quickly come through to form up and advance on the enemy.

The party comes around the corner and sees the glow of the 16 burning mummies. Another 42 appear to be in the main chamber milling about and 24 down by the web.

The shield wall expands to 6 spreading out the archers and spellcasters. The front rank also has their bows or crossbows out except Hraedsig of course.

A hail of bolts, arrows and stones go flying and several mummies drop. The front line puts missiles away and prepares for mêlée and the second rank lets fly again.

By the time the mummies reach the front line another 8 have dropped and several are injured. The party notes the mummies seem to be moving slower, a shuffle of about half normal walking speed. They were quicker before.

The slow mummies lose the initiative of course and the front line dishes out much damage with the back line firing for potential killing shots. After three rounds of this, another 28 lay dead but Elfstan was forced to help aid Hraedsig and Gellin. He backstabbed one killing immediately and killed two injured ones. They were crowding in too tight and 20 more from the south were heading north. Gilraen turned 14 causing confusion and a few of the turned to bounce into the burning mummies. This leaves 28 fighting and 4 of those are burning and 20 are still around away. 14 are fleeing but 4 of those are burning and 4 are still in the webs.

Víli took 6 points of damage and Bitur took 4 and Gellin took 5. The mummies appear to be physically weaker now in addition to being slower.

Hmm, interesting. I wonder if damaging the altar has reduced the mummies power. If there is another Evil altar, we should try to destroy it quickly - that might get rid of the mummies.

I agree- let’s focus on destroying that altar once we’ve broken through here. Front line, stay strong!

Thoroncir hews at the mummies with his longsword, glad to be fighting shoulder-to-shoulder with his front-line comrades. “Elendil!”, he cries.

I think it will take longer to destroy another alter than it would to destroy the mummies. However, if there is one, it should definitely be destroyed when we are no longer in combat.

No longer invisible, Elfstan will help with his swords where he is needed and can do the most damage.

Ghân will continue to use Goodberries, Herbal cures and Cure Light Wounds.

Then die, mummies, die!!

Thoroncir, his longsword rising and falling with deadly effect, couldn’t agree more.

The party pushes forward with Elfstan, Sten & Gellin moving up.

Step by step the party fights the mummies back. Carefully chopping down the slow moving enemies. Another 10 fall as Gellin takes 4 for 9 more and Thoroncir takes another 5 for 16.

Ghân cast his cure serious on Thoroncir with Gilraen’s aid and heals him 14. Now he is down 2. Gilraen casts a cure light on Gellin and he is full.

Jari begins hammering the evil altar as the two Rohirrim advised.

The red mummies are the ones on fire of course.

Thoroncir shouts his thanks over his shoulder to the princess and the Wose for their healing as he continues to hack away at the mummies.

Hraedsig is feeling good about how this battle is going right now, and will not attempt to Turn. He and Thoroncir can meet in the middle of the corpse pile

I wonder what will happen when the second altar is finally smashed?

N.B. I think Ghân had already used all his 4th level spells, so that Cure Serious Wounds was either a combination of lower level spells or a couple of Cure Light Wounds.

We’ll go with the pair of cure lights then I guess. Darn. Sorry about that.

As Jari hammers, the party chops down mummies that become more reckless to get to Jari. It actually allows Hraedsig & Thoroncir to take flank attacks and Elfstan to choose backstabs with his undead bane. Bitur and Gwaelur concentrate on protecting Jari as do the archers and Mulligan.

Crack!

The altar breaks and every remaining mummy drops to the ground.
