Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

After a moment of stunned silence, Thoroncir shouts, “Huzzah!” and raises his longsword high. “Well done, Jari, and all of you! Clearly we have a dealt a hard blow against a focus of evil in this forsaken place.” He takes off his helm and smiles at Gilraen.

The mummies fell, so obviously we’ve been successful, but Hraedsig will Detect Evil just in case there’s anything else hiding around.

“Well done, companions! A fine beginning to the cleansing of this place.”

Jari, “Thanks Thoroncir but it was Hraedsig and Deor that strongly suggested breaking the altar. I just had the best tool for the job.”

Gilraen smiles back at Thoroncir, “I hope this was the worst of the challenges already.”

Hraedsig walks through the room and detect no evil.

As per request: Here is the map so far.

Thoroncir sheathes his sword and wipes his brow. “My lady, if you or Hraedsig would, please pronounce a blessing on this place, that it might not be quite so fertile ground for any return of evil.”

Depending on the time, it might be good to stop for a bite to eat and a short rest before pressing on. Got to keep our strength.

I just noticed that all of the mummies on the tactical map are smilie faces. Cute.

“I agree this is a good place to regroup. I’m more used to sitting on a horse in this armor than standing so much  Perhaps once we have recovered, we can try that door in the west wall?”

Hraedsig will take the opportunity to sit and clean his sword, as well as take some rations and water. Suspecting that the Lady is the better choice for blessing, he’ll leave that to her unless she prefers not to.
Thanks for the map repost.

With the mummies dead… again… Elfstan will do a more careful search around the room and inspect the bodies.

Mulligan will also start looking around as well.

Elfstan, you take one side, I’ll take the other.

I suggest a few people take position at the entrance to the room just to make sure we are not further disturbed.

Bitur will happily guard the entrance while others search around.

Gilraen, "I will say a prayer to Estë to help end their ancient sufferings and perhaps Ghân can add one to Yavanna. By the nature of Yavanna being the patron of nature she abhors the undead greatly. I will then add a prayer to Varda to protect these halls, Námoto end their restlessness and Vairë the Weaverhis lady to end their stories.

The bodies have bronzed weapons and old spiked buckler and other odds and ends of little or no value. No secret doors or oddities are found in searching around.

Does anyone try a Detect Magic?

What about the two doors and 198 holes in the walls?

Ghân will fiollow Gilraen’s advice on praying and (provided the room appears secure) fire off a Detect Magic .

Hraedsig is not interested in digging through holes for loot, but earlier suggested trying the west door when everyone was ready to proceed. Any objections?

Ghân’s Detect Magic greatly speeds up the finding of missiles shot and determines that both doors have ancient spells on them. He also detects magic in one of the holes in the east room. It is a bottom hole second from the south wall. No evil was detected within.

Let’s have a look in that hole, then, before we try to open the doors. Would one of our Hobbits care to do the honors?

Then lunch? What time is it anyway?

Oh why not, I’ll have a look inside.

I could probably tell you the nearest meal time as well.

Mulligan uses a small lantern and enters the hole in the wall. It goes 10’ back and is filthy and littered with debris. Towards the back of the hole she finds a bronze knife without any tarnish. She pulls it out and Ghân confirms it is the magic item.

The time is about 9:30 am. You entered at around 8 am. It might be time for second breakfast but only for the Hobbits.

Ah, thanks. I thought it was later.

Other than the magic, anything noteworthy about the knife? If not, let’s have our Hobbits quickly peek in the other 197 holes before we open either of the doors.

Just a DM reminder, others are at this time engaged in deadly battle. As there is no magic in the holes and no evil, perhaps they can be left for later. The two doors with magic spells seem more reasonable but that is a party decision of course.

The knife on quick inspection does not appear to be an exceptional quality as a weapon but it does have some odd pictographs on it.

I’ll keep the knife for later, maybe it will come in handy.

Perhaps we should be moving on to the next areas to see what we can find and put to rest.

I would suggest the next passageway down to being with.

Elfstan would rather see what’s behind the doors before starting on a new level.
