Ghân: It would be expensive for me to cast Dispel Magic , since I have used my 4th level spells doing Produce Flame
Has any Cleric got Augury?

Gilraen cannot load Augury. Very few clerics can I am afraid.
Thoroncir steps through the magic and feels a strong tingle that makes his hair stands up where possible and causes a pins and needles sensation in his limbs. …
What does Thoroncir do?
If he’s not actually uncomfortable, Thoroncir will say out loud how it feels, and will keep walking forward. If the mages in the party ask him to come back, he will.
Deor will watch with interest, paying attention both to what he sees happening to and around Thoroncir as well as what the Sea-Knight is telling him.
If it’s to do with electricity, maybe Ghân can spot it (since he has Protection v Lightning running).
If Thoroncir is getting into danger, Ghân will advise him to withdraw and offer to go in himself.
Ghân does feel it is electrical in nature and calls Thoroncir back out. He then enters himself. He feels a slight tingling and walks to the middle. When he gets to the middle the floor drops out and sends Ghân plummeting down …
… About a foot as the ancient mechanism fails to work correctly. There is also a blue flash and the smell of the air after a lightning strike. Ghân realizes his Protection from Lightning absorbed 22 points of damage and it does not appear the spell has dropped.
Thoroncir, who after all is wearing armor, pales slightly at the thought of what might have happened had Ghan not stepped into his place, and thanks the Wose quite warmly.
Clever! Deor will carefully check the mechanism here. It may not be entirely discharged! In any case, Deor would like to check the nature of the trap here. It appeared to be magically triggered, but he wonders if it was magically, physically, or alchemically discharged. In any case, there may be something valuable to salvage from the mechanism.
Ghân is a bit nervous that the Lightning spell is still functioning. He can still absorb damage safely, but warns the others* to stay back at present.
He tries to describe the trap mechanism to the Scouts - perhaps they can assist at a safe distance.
*particularly Deor the ‘Invincible’
Well, seeing as you have set off the main part of the trap, we may be able to come across and disarm anything that is left.
It will depend on the description as to what action to take next.
Feel free to stand there as a lightning conductor while we work
As stated the spell still appears to be up.
The trap appears to be a well disguised stone trap with a spring mechanism. The square of stone floor was 5’x5’ in the middle of the circle. The hinges must be mostly corroded and it helps that Ghân is light weight. Ghân still feels the electrical field is up but thinks it might be far less and growing again. He can crawl out of the failed trap easily.
Why have a trap in a room like this with nothing else around :dubious:
As the trap has a mechanical component, I will see if I can disable it. Better to do it now straight after it has discharged than wait a little while and get a large shock.
When Mulligan gets to the trap to investigate a slight discharge goes off doing a point of electrical damage to Mulligan. The hairs on her feet and head are standing up but otherwise she is fine. She determines the pit trap is not the trigger and it must be magical and takes a while to recharge. Checking the stone trap with Ghân observer she sees that the trap is an old trap door actually that failed. It appears the door can be forced open and there is a stone ladder built into the pit wall going down. It looks tough for men and maybe even Dwarves in armor but easy for the Hobbits and Elves and unarmored folk.
The door will take some work to force open.
Interesting?
Oh well, we need a long metal pole planted somewhere in the middle of this trap. Hopefully, that will continue to discharge the trap as it charges up.
So, seeing as I can see a ladder down, does that mean part of the trap door is open and would it be possible to climb down with a bit of light.
The side closest to the stone foot and hand holds dropped about a foot when Ghân stepped on it. You can see the holds but you cannot really see down the shaft(?) yet.
The door would need to be forced open further.
Ghân can take quite a lot of electrical damage safely, so will keep trying to discharge the trap to let the others work on the door.
What we really need is a dwarf with a crowbar, not in any metal armour, to lend a hand in cracking this door open.
Any volunteers?
Hraedsig smiles to himself that he was right about the trap
“Perhaps we should continue on rather than trying to go down there? If it was a trap meant for someone to fall through, I cannot imagine there is anything pleasant waiting there for us. Plus it looks a little cramped for those of us who…ahem…have some girth. I would like to suggest that we continue on this level as we had originally planned.”
Agreed. I can’t imagine that there is anything good waiting for us at the bottom of a trap. Particularly a trap that is so old and unused that the door doesn’t even open properly.
But… but… think of the treasure that might be down there from people who fell into this trap so very long ago.
And if it was a trap, then surely nothing will be down there waiting for us.
