If they all burn as easily as the last lot, Deor’s in favor of pressing the undead too.
Although Ghân himself is not especially good against Undead, he agrees that the party is better equipped for it than our allies.
Plus Bitur’s point about not having to worry about surrender applies. Let us free these Undead* from their endless nightmare!
Ghân will pass some Goodberries to Gilraen (however many she wants - 30?) and offer 8 (maximum individual dose) to any party member who wants to carry them.
If the party are going underground to fight Undead, Ghân doesn’t expect to use Call Woodland Beings. He will offer the spell to Klun (e.g. to help guard outside) before the party set off.
Ghân will make one change: drop Speak Plants and take Produce Flame**
*by killing them :eek:
**Ghân’s name for Produce Fire
The party will be given some rough maps and a guide and 40 more Dwarves, mainly miners in Dwarven plate armor to head for the undead area. They are not actually with you to fight the undead of course. They look at it as you will clear the undead, allowing them to surprise a pocket of well armed goblins from an unexpected direction.
This area is vastly more complex than the last and so detailed maps will be difficult to provide.
I going to wait until they get you down near the undead to provide maps. The Dwarves will always be your rearguard until the undead are clear. You’ll need to put the one guide near the front. His name is Rüdan son of Grüdin. He is in Dwarven Elven chain mail and well armed with a large hammer and excellent war shield.
The marching order can be 4 wide with ease. I do need a marching order.
Well, another entrance, another set of undead and goblins to assist in rooting out.
Mulligan is quite happy to catch up with her elder cousin on route, and is also relieved that the goblins are at least under guard and safe for the time being.
We can add our map to those in the command tent and hopefully give a good idea of what occured.
As for the next part, well Mulligan is not so good against the undead, preferring the living to use trickery against, but will do her best to assist in any way she can.
Ghân casts Call Woodland Beings and summons 16 vultures. They understand common fairly well.
Possible marching order:
Hraedsig Bitur Gwaelur Thoroncir
Rüdan Gil-Gandel Brin Miron
Mulligan Gilraen Deor Víli
Jari Gellin Ghân Elfstan
Sten
Dwarves x 10 rows
It would make more sense to me to move the line that has our casters and healers to the back right in front on the rows of dwarves, so maybe switch Elfstan and Deor and switch Gilraen and Gellin.
How about the following marching order.
Hraedsig Bitur Gwaelur Thoroncir
Rüdan Gil-Gandel Brin Miron
Mulligan Víli Elfstan
Gilraen Deor Ghân
Sten Jari Gellin
This would be if the light is good all the way down.
Otherwise, if we need scouts out front then how about:
Rüdan Mulligan
.
.
.
Hraedsig Bitur Gwaelur Thoroncir
Elfstan Gil-Gandel Brin Miron
Víli Ghân Gilraen Gellin
Jari Deor Sten
Dwarves x 10 rows
Rüdan has a deep seated and strongly held belief that he should never be out in front near the undead.
On that note, Last check Thoroncir planned to have Cirist out and glowing if undead are within the detection area. what else will be used for light? Every other Dwarf will have a lit Dwarven Lantern and plenty of oil.
Gilraen will be happy to have her bauble out and glow gently.
Mulligan has a deep seated and strongly held belief that the best thing to do is tell everyone else where the undead are and then let them do the fighting.
I think the first marching order will be more useful then and Mulligan will also have a dwarvern lantern plus oil, but will leave it unlit until it is necessary.
Mulligan’s order looks good to me.
Yes - I wanted dwarves front and centre, archers second rank and centre for the best field of fire. I see no need to make change for change’s sake.
Deor feels fairly good about the marching order, and will feel especially comfortable with Jari and Sten covering his flanks.
I agree with our gallant Elf-captain as to marching order. And if anyone would like to borrow Thoroncir’s oil-burning Dwarven-made Lamp of Aglarond, he or she is welcome to it.
So, shall we be off then, there are undead and goblins just waiting to be discovered.
Hopefully, there are some more interesting things down there as well.
Before we leave, say goodbye to my elder cousin Faramir, and remind him to be careful. Ok, so the blade has several trolls to its edge already, but that is no reason to be cavalier.
If he has any tips about what might be down below waiting for us, I would be glad to hear them as well.
*Brightly sound the battle-horns upon this joyous day;
Thus to light our path there gleams the Sun’s a-dawning ray;
Craven foes before us flee apace and far away,
While we are cleansing the Mountains!
Hurrah! Hurrah! We sing the song with glee!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The Mountains shall be free!
With our merry chorus praise the Valar o’er the Sea,
While we are cleansing the Mountains!
Long the Misty Mountains lay beneath the Shadow’s gloom -
Now to evil Goblin-kind we sound the trump of doom!
Flee the Mountains, wicked ones, or seek at once your tomb,
For we are cleansing the Mountains!
Hurrah! Hurrah! We sing the song with glee!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The Mountains shall be free!
With our merry chorus praise the Valar o’er the Sea,
While we are cleansing the Mountains!
Not for Orc we stay our march and not for wraith or troll;
Neither Warg nor spider-kind shall keep us from our goal;
Out our swords and drawn our bows to claim a deadly toll
Of those who haunted the Mountains!
Hurrah! Hurrah! We sing the song with glee!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The Mountains shall be free!
With our merry chorus praise the Valar o’er the Sea,
While we are cleansing the Mountains!
Shield to shield and blade to blade we meet and match them all;
Rank on rank of Goblin rank before us swiftly fall;
Dwarves and Hobbits, Elves and Men unite at Gondor’s call
Thus to be cleansing the Mountains!
Hurrah! Hurrah! We sing the song with glee!
Hurrah! Hurrah! The Mountains shall be free!
With our merry chorus praise the Valar o’er the Sea,
While we are cleansing the Mountains!*
“Wonderful, my friend! I am filled with righteous spirit from your marvelous verses! An auspicious send-off - let us commence!”
The Dwarves like the song very much and call for Gil-Gandel to sing it again. One younger Dwarf however speaks up. “It was King Thorin that called this army together not the King of Gondor.”
The Dwarves don’t seem to care, one says, “Ah, he is an Elf and recruited by the Queen’s brothers. What do you expect? I love the ‘Rank on rank of Goblin rank before us swiftly fall’ right before it.”
The company will begin marching in hopefully with Gil-Gandel singing again and the Dwarves beginning to take it up.
Thoroncir likes the song very much, and thanks Gil-Gandel.
Never have I seen “Marching Through Georgia” so artfully and inspirationally reworded.
Bowing to the ‘heckler’: “You are quite correct - and so is your friend, of course - but when I write this song down I shall pretend that I put King Thorin in his rightful place all along. Let me make that amendment now:”
and, of course, the metre will be preserved unharmed.
