Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

With lights blazing and voices raised in song the company marches bravely forth to battle against those that should have passed through the halls of Mandos and those that soon shall be sent to where ever Goblins go.

The journey is several thousand feet along long sloping passages that drop the party 200’ lower and then down a broad stairway another 80’. This leads to a large open cavern with an eerie greenish light. Rüdan warns that from this point forth we can expect the dead. Horrible wights of fearsome visage and a small army of the goblin dead still animated. We Dwarves can handle these lesser dead, these walking corpses but we cannot well face the wights.

Well, given our noisy passage down here, I guess they will know we are coming.

Everyone keep a look out for some strange glowing green things.

Hraedsig will Detect Evil to see if there is anything hiding close.

Sir Thoroncir has his sword drawn, his shield up and is ready for action.

Lindorn at the ready, an arrow on the string, keen eyes searching the gloom and ears almost at the twitch.

Feeling safer than usual among this army of dwarves, Deor grins, ready for a little more action and a chance for another dramatic Fireball.

Ghân is still happily humming Gil-Gandel’s marvellous marching song.

He also feels confident about his trusty companions and his ability to offer useful spells.

I didn’t think our singing was that bad, so where are they? :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe they’re waiting, just hoping we’ll sing some more!

The cavern is long and craggy. Off the main path that is 20’ wide the floor and roof are rough, craggy and pocked. At points the cavern is 60’ across, never less than 35’ and it is 250’ long. There are many small dark holes that may or may not be passages.

Thoroncir’s sword Cirist is glowing indicating that undead are within 600’. The company gets 50’ into the cavern and Cirist begins to glow brightly. Kkósal bane is not yet glowing in Elfstan’s had so they are still beyond 100’. Hraedsig does not yet detect evil within 60’. Sting is glowing dimly.

Gilraen begins her Song of Estë.

Looks like they are getting closer, everyone get ready and mind those holes. Remember what came out of the last lot.

Here we go…

Shoulder to shoulder with his brave companions, his true love’s song filling his ears, his sword aglow in warning, Thoroncir peers into the gloom beyond and wills himself to be brave.

A short time later a Dwarf from the rear shouts, something is coming up quick as Kkósal bane starts to glow.

Thoroncir shouts, “Front rank, let us turn about and move to the rear! Our foe thinks to surprise us from behind. *Elendil!” *He will lead Gwaelur, Bitur and Hraedsig through the milling soldiery of the Dwarven regiment to confront the enemy.

As Thoroncir navigates his traffic jam, Deor will keep his eyes forward, ready to seal off any passages with a Web.

Hraedsig follows Thoroncir through the ranks, ready to attempt a Turn at the first sight of any undead.

A tiny voice pops up in the chaos.

“What if it is just an undead goblin attacking from the rear and not a Wraith? The front is now undefended.”

Gwaelur hears the voice and agrees with the sentement. He proposes that Bitur and Himself stay near the old front (now the rear?) with xbows at the ready. There are many strong fighting dwarves at the old rear (now the front) already and someone needs to protect the area that he was originally set up to defend.

Bitur agrees with Gwaellur and will keep guarding the “former” front.

“Undefended”? What am I, pipeweed smoke?

Still alert to attack from any other direction…
