Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game: Fifth Adventure - War in Goblin Gate

“Excellent! Throw that smoke thing in, then - my sword arm is getting itchy!”

Before I forget, Mulligan takes the Goodberries and Herbal Cure and thanks Ghân before using them.

Small note for game play: Ghân applies the Herbal Cure which includes sanitizing, and bandaging or stitching as needed. I know that this is unclear so I thought I would make it more clear.

Let me know if you toss the bomb or wait for approval from a few more.

Bitur thinks that if we can flush the troll out that would be better than going to him.

“I may have something that can help in addition to the smoke bomb.”

Reaching into his pack he pulls out one of his squibs.

“You might want to throw this as well. It won’t do much damage, but it makes for a relatively loud report. And if you hit the troll, it will no doubt irritate it.”

Good then. Smoke out the toll and wait for him with the shield wall in place and archers at our backs. One of the center members of the shield wall should probably be the one who Deor casts shield on. Should we decide the configuration of the wall, or go with our standard “two dwarves in the middle the men on the ends” setup?

Ghân repeates his doubts that Deor can cast Shield on anyone else (and if you’re wearing Plate it wouldn’t make any difference anyway).

Unless a Scout wants to sneak in, Ghân votes for the shield wall, with the Archers coming in behind.

And most appreciated it is too.

Also, did the room have any other exits out of it that I might have noticed, you know, shortly before being skewered.

Mulligan did not spy any other exits but the room was a mess. Many spears handy, dirty furs and rugs, a bad stench and general refuse and rotting meat. It is lit by some smoky torches.

“Well it’s smoke bomb time, followed by a couple of squibs. Let’s see if we can get him out of there. The smoke is unlikely to go anywhere else anyway.”

Mulligan gets back up, and packs the Galvorn mail away into her pack.

“Let’s get started, shall we?”

Mulligan launches the smoke bomb, sees the smoke expand rapidly and follows it with the squibs. Several bangs lead to a loud roar followed by choking.

A large troll rushes out and hurls his heavy spear at the first archer he sees. It is Brin and the shot is fast and accurate. As it flies over Gwaelur, his shield goes up quick and barely grazes the spear. It is enough so the spear glances off of Brin and does only 5 points of damage.

The shield wall charges and the cry of “Elendil” is heard again. Arrows fly high from the Elves.

Thoroncir raises his longsword and has at the troll, determined to bring it down as quickly as possible.

Mulligan moves quietly off to one side and after a brief glance at the ensuing fight, she looks out across the barricade, just in case more should stumble this way.

“Well done, Mulligan! HRAAAAAAAARGGHHH!!!” (much sword swinging follows)

Playing some one-string harp music here…

These are the sort of fighters Ghân likes to adventure with!

(And the scouts are jolly decent too…)

Ghân asks if the armour hinders your ability to Hide and Move stealthily.
Maybe you’ve just been unlucky?

Thoroncir slices into the troll’s gamy looking thigh, Hraedsig stabs the troll in his oversized gut but his shield does nothing. Bitur’s Ax strikes deep in the foes left knee and Gwaelur’s ax cleaves off the troll’s right hand at the wrist. None of the shield strikes seem to hurt.

Gil-Gandel shoots the troll in the cheek and Miron misses with his first. Brin’s Long Bow delivers a devastating shot as he sends an Uruk-Hai arrow deep into the troll’s lung.

The troll strikes down with his spiked club on Thoroncir’s shoulder and drives him back for 17 points of damage.

Gil-Gandel misses with his next arrow as does Miron but Brin strikes again. The troll is in bad shape. Both Elves hit with their final arrows. His reactions look slow and his slightly greenish blood is spraying all over the place.

Mulligan sees nothing through the smoke and hears nothing over the din of the battle. Elfstan seeks an opportunistic strike.

A fast strike from Gwaelur drops the troll forward; Thoroncir dances back and drives Cirist through the back of the troll’s head. He twitches twice and dies.

Ghân offers Goodberries and Herbal Cures to Brin and Thoroncir (if they haven’t had them already today).

Nice!

No Ghan, the armour appears to have no effect on my ability to Hide or move around.

But I think I am perhaps too overconfident while I am wearing it, and overconfidence is a treasure finder’s worst enemy. For the moment it stays off.
