Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game, the Second Adventure, Scouting Ered Lithui

That would be me running back and forth. Hey, I’m using this invisiblity for all that it’s worth.

I was just trying to keep track of what was going on, I will leave it up to our leaders to decide if they think we need extra assistance.

The party advances quickly into room 7; the large main chamber.

Three goblins are surprised by the rush and scatter.

Gil-Gandel, Gwaelur and Brin each shoot one dead.

The goblins have conveniently gathered some valuable into large sacks.

Renee finally stops the song. She needs a break.

Mulligan has snuck into room 9 and finds the place quickly cleaned of belongings. The orcs might be bugging out.

Where does the party head next?

This is getting silly. Guess I will head for Room 10, if possible while staying out of sight, and start looking for tracks of lots of Orcs heading out of there at high speed.

Mulligan cannot find the door that appears to exist on the map. It may be a job for Elf or Dwarf.

Sorry that I lost track, but did anyone take a good long look at the hole in the floor? Did it lead to another passage, or was it just a trap?

The hole in the floor leads to another room below with a single injured Orc and a ladder in it.

I guess I will let the others know about the lack of door and head for the next room along, ie. 8

Send Folca high up into the sky to watch for any mass exodus of orcs- if she can spot them, we’ll have the jump on them when it comes time to track them, and if they are scattered, maybe Moose can mop them up.

Likewise, shouldn’t we check out the room above us, on the spiral staircase?

Folca circles up higher as dust comes early in the mountains. She sights three orcs straggling out to the east of where you entered. You determine that must be the exit you are nearest to. She sees no mass exodus so far.
Note: the stairs head down and lead to the room that was below the prior room that the orc had jumped down. Mulligan had already reported on the injured orc.

If Folca can manage to convey a message to Moose, have her lead him to the orcs- three straggling orcs sounds like a nice warm-up for him.

Meanwhile we should head on down. There looks to be room for a number of orcs down there, from the map.

Which down do you mean?

The only lower room is room 6 and has one injured orc.
Room 9 was already reported vacated by Mulligan.

8 or 10 would appear to be the next choices.

I think Gil-Gandel meant to proceed downwards into room 6.

My mistake. Let’s head for 8 then, and assuming we clear it out with no trouble, hang a left to 12.

I’m not sure how Folca will communicate to Moose?

I suspect it will be difficult. But by vocalizations, displaying agitation, and darting off in a direction, she might manage. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work, and nothing’s lost, but it’s worth a try.

I’ll do the advance scouting as usual and let everyone know what is in each room.

Just to give us the advantage of surprise.

Folca tries to get Moose’s attention. Moose follows for a bit but seems very confused.

Mulligan has found room 12 also empty, but 15 orcs have fortified room 11. All have spears or crossbows. 6 crossbows in all. The passage has bed frames, glass, spikes and ropes blocking it.

The party proceeds down the hall to room 8. When they arrive in room 8, they find it empty and having the look of having been rapidly emptied. The party heads down to room 12. They see the doors to 10 are closed.

Are the orcs in 11 close in behind the barricade they’ve made? If so, this would be a good time to prepare some fire arrows that Brin and I could use to set it alight. But if they’re a good way back from the barricade, I want Mulligan’s further information in order to assess the feasibility of this plan: We grab one of the bed frames, put the strongest fighters to pushing it, and use it to plough our way through the glass and spikes. If that looks doable then I recommend we save Deor’s remaining Sleep for emergencies, smoke up the orcs and plough through, while Mulligan and I slash through any ropes that we get snagged on.

If Mulligan estimates that the barricade is too difficult to force our way through, then it looks like an archery firefight, using the barricade ourselves as cover. Our bowmen, especially me, have a rate-of-fire advantage over the orcs to offset their greater numbers; also we should be the better shots and better armoured.

The bed frames are poorly made, but might work as described.

The Orcs are scattered a bit. Staggered along the arc of the opposite wall.
