Sounds like a plan. I’ll stand out of the way.
I will have a listen to the doors to 10, just to make sure that nothing is hiding behind them.
As for the barricade, I would like to check that the barricade is not rigged to collapse if the party is behind it. I still have those 2 flasks of oil to cause trouble with as well. Consider it placeable anywhere you like in the room with a bit of luck
Ghân checks with Mulligan if the hobbit still needs 6 of Ghân’s paralysing darts.
Here, Ghan have them back and thank you for lending them to me. I won’t be trying any more up close and personal tricks for the moment.
Hi, everybody, I’m back!
Thoroncir says, rubbing his chin, “It may be that there are rooms in this orc-hold not shown on the map. Unless the rats miscounted - which is certainly possible - then there could still be orcs in hiding. We must not let our guard down, not just yet.” He thanks Ghan for his healing, as always. He is ready to proceed as Gil-Gandel proposed.
Thanks.
It’s good to have an adventurous Scout!
Have we checked both of these carefully and thoroughly enough yet?
I vote that we wait until we’re done here, so that we can do it safely, in case they’re trapped.
Make it so. If we must deal with any little surprises, let us do it when we do not still have a score or so orcs to attend to.
I’m fine with the plans thus far. Nothing more to add at this time.
Mulligan hears nothing in room 10 and the barricade appears to be quickly rigged and just whatever they could drag together in a hurry.
The archers make a quick foray to fire at the orcs and retreat as quickly.
Gil-Gandel, Brin, Gwaelur, Theogrim & Thoroncir all fire and retreat.
Gil-Gandel, Gwaelur & Brin hit and drop 3 crossbow users.
Thoroncir picks and easier target with a spear and hits for 5
Theogrim shoots the same target but misses.
Four bolts fire and all miss. The party then returns to charge the barricade to cut and bash through it.
Three orcs (including the injured one) have grabbed the downed crossbows but four are trying to reload their heavy crossbows.
Two bolts fly at Gwaelur and one hits the barrier and one his shield.
The barrier will not resist for long. Six orcs wearing ring mail charge the front three, as they charge, Gil-Gandel hits one and staggers him and Brin drops one. Ghân hits a third with a blowgun dart and it falls shortly before completing the charge.
The remaining three healthy orcs hit the front three of the party while screaming like berserkers.
Thoroncir is misses, Gwaelur is hit for 5 and Theogrim is hit for 4.
Theogrim with his long reach hits his orc and it screams in pain as the sword bites for 13 points dropping this large foe.
Gil-Gandel fires at the one he already hit and drops it.
Brin shoots the orc on Gwaelur through the heart.
Ghân blows a dart at an orc with a crossbow but misses.
Gil-Gandel’s final shot is at the orc across from Thoroncir, he hits for 7 but it is still up.
Mulligan hears the sound of charging feet from behind and alerts Deor and the others.
There is only one orc at the barrier and the 6 with the crossbows in the room.
Orcs??

Thoroncir will keep hacking at the orcs behind the barrier, but shouts to our Elf-captain, “Look to Renee and the mage, Gil-Gandel! We may be set upon to the rear.”
Hate being flanked. Ah well, who wants to live forever. I’m probably best suited from the rear group to hold the hall, so (if Starharp agrees) I’ll move to the back (soon to be the front) while we re-align. I hate being brave
I knew it, oh well.
Deor, what is the range on that sleep spell and get ready to throw it at a pile up of Orcs.
Head further down the corridor, so that Renee and Deor are not in firing range if they have missile weapons. Take handfuls of the smoke bombs, 5 in each hand, and get ready to roll them down the corridor towards the incoming footsteps.
If the smoke bombs don’t slow them before the party finishes with the Orcs ahead, an invisible hobbit roadblock should cause a nice Orc Pile-up. This is going to be fun :dubious:
Ghân and Fang move to protect Deor and Renee from the new opponents.
Depending on numbers and their Armour, Ghân will either fire his blowpipe missiles or cast Heat Metal.
N.B. He won’t fire unless he knows exactly where Mulligan is.
Aim High
Better yet - Gwaelur, Theogrim, disengage and support Ghân and Fang at the rear. Brin, with me. That barrier is more use as cover to us now than it is to them, and we can fire nearly as often between us as all of them can. We’ll leave Thoroncir to drop the orc he’s in melee with and then I believe he’ll need no second telling to turn and guard Renee. Hold the Sleep in reserve until we see how many orcs are coming.
So be it.
“It shall be just as you say, O Elf-captain,” Thoroncir says grimly, laying about him with his longsword.
Ghân, Gwaelur & Theogrim pivot and pull quickly to the rear. Ghân allows Fang to be in front of him.
15 orcs are charging at full speed down the passage. It is a mix of leather and ring mail wearers. One huge Orc has a flaming long sword.
Deor casts his sleep spell dropping 10 of the ones in leather.
Ghân casts Heat Metal on the three back orcs wearing ring mail and carrying scimitars. (Minimal affect on them the first round of course.)
Theogrim finds the low ceilings a little tough to work with but stabs the lead orc with his sword for 19 points. The orc swings back and hits Theogrim for 13.
Gwaelur is busy with two orcs. He hits both, dropping one with his axe and injuring the other for 9.
Fang bites another orc for 7 points and it misses.
Mulligan backstabs and kills the rear orc. Mulligan was hiding in room 12 and followed them swiftly once the 10 fell asleep.
Renee casts a cure light on Theogrim for 11 points, Theogrim is now down only 2.
On the old front, Thoroncir hits and drops the injured orc and quickly pivots to protect Renee.
Gil-Gandel hits 3 times dropping the injured orc and a fresh orc.
Brin hits twice killing two.
One bolt hit each archer. Gil-Gandel for 4 & Brin for 6. **Brin immediately feels queasy, he thinks it might be poison. **
The two remaining orcs turn to run for the doors out, the doors are closed however.
