Info: the narrow there is 28’ across. Not bad for blocking and should have time to get there.
Ghan agrees with Thoroncir’s formation across the gap.
He suggests that Hejren drops the Wall of Ice behind the first row of Trolls. (It may be too risky to drop it on Trolls fighting our lads.)
So our four Fighters take on one set of Trolls (hopefully they are too big to get four in a line…) and once they are disposed of, we nip outside the Cave.
Ghan will stand behind the Fighters and cast Unicorn Totem, followed by Healing Spirit on our Fighters.
When retreating out of the Cave, Ghan will look for cover.
A 28’ gap shoupld allow three layers of wall when Hejren casts that spell. That should take some toll of the trolls.
Roger. Then another one at the secondary tunnel?
Was the GM’s post up there from 10:39 am a hypothetical run-through or the real thing?
It was the real thing!
You can only do one Wall of Ice today. That staff has 10 charges and you never want to use all 10. The Cone took 5 charges and the Wall will take 4 charges. You get back a d6+4 charges at next dawn.
I’ll post the next bit shortly.
Gwaelur is going to be using Great Weapon Master and Menacing attack on the initial Troll combat, and is happy to take up a central position to get right into the thick of it.
Also action surge.
Felareth would use Command on multiple trolls if possible, using a 2nd or even 3rd level spell slot to cast the spells, if there are enough targets to warrant that.

The party races towards the narrow before the Rubble. They turn the corner 2 rounds later and confront a single troll. It is probably Tarmerk. This puts them on the west side of chamber 3. The troll is 20’ away. The chamber is lit by 6 torches and somewhat smoky but the smoke is up high. The floor is rough but not rough enough to count as difficult terrain. The trolls stands about 10’ tall. He is fat and dull looking. The troll is not wearing metal armor.
Felareth holds action,
Ghân brings up the Unicorn Totem with his bonus action and is ready to bring up Healing Spirit.
Hejren strikes with Magic Missile doing 11 points.
The trolls screams, “Ow, Ow, Ow, Help, Men & Dwarves.”
Thoroncir charges the troll an hits for 14 and hits again for 10 more.
Bitur hits once and would have missed the second swing of his axe but uses his inspiration and of course the Este Blessing and hits. He does 18 for 53 total so far. The Ice Troll still looks fairly good.
Gwaelur strikes twice as a Great Weapon Master and choosing Menacing. So he is only +5 to hit +d4 for Blessing but if he missed he can use the inspiration from Felareth for another d6. to hit. Instead he hits twice and determines the ice troll is AC15. He brutalizes the troll for 52 points of damage. (d12+7+10+d8)+(d12+7+10+d8) Total is 105. The troll is bloody. (over half dead)
Gwaelur decides to wait on action surge for more than one foe.
Finally Tarmerk gets to swing. He choose Gwaelur the Terror.
His Great Axe hits once, doing 32! The first 8 are temps but Gwaelur is hurting.
Ceol strikes with Great Weapon Master and hits twice. He does 56 damage and the troll goes down.
Ghân casts Healing Spirit and gives Gwaelur back 11hp.
The group hears more trolls and could move the front line up about 5’.
First trolls are at least 2 rounds away, though party could move up to 50’ next round if wanted.
Does Hejren want to seal off the tunnel labeled 9?
“It’s just a scratch. Thanks for the healing Ghan”
Yes, IF there are indeed several audible from areas 7 & 8.
“Let us not move too far forward…we want to be able to reach the outdoors quickly if need be.”
Ceol will cast Searing Smite, using a 2nd level spell slot, in preparation for the arriving trolls.
The party advances to the goal of the 26’ wide area between chambers 3 & 4.
Hejren blocks the narrows marks 9 with 10 walls of ice. It will take a long time even for the trolls to get through this barrier.
Gwaelur is healed another 19 in the 2 rounds it takes the trolls to advance so he is full. These 3 are cautious and do the rush together. The 3 ice trolls have all lost initiative to the party. Thoroncir stays back just a little so he can charge the new foes.

. . . . Loo Seji Gummer
Felareth holds seeing no metal armor or even weapons. This might be a good time for a flee once engaged.
Ghân
Hejren casts her slow spell. The trolls need 16s to save. Only 1 saves but Hejren can drop his 18 to his 13 Prescience Roll.
Do it.
And ahem her.
All 3 trolls will have an AC of only 13. Their Dex saves are -2 and they get no reactions and only 1 attack each. They do get a fresh Wis Save at the end of each turn.
((OOC: Since these three trolls have already been partially pantsed, and will likely be more fully pantsed by the time that the spellcasters finish with them, I propose that we try to kill these three and then back up to cave 1, in preparation to more fully retreat if needed.))
Thoroncir agrees, although he is willing to hold this position longer if the rest of the party is willing.
He was concerned to see Gwaelur get bashed, but is glad and relieved to see his redoubtable Dwarven friend doing better now.
Ghan will continue Healing Spirit (each round selecting the most injured party member.)
He will also cast Faerie Fire on the 3 Ice Trolls.
He didn’t mean for the party to advance this far and agrees aloud with Ceol, calling
“Do damage, but be prepared to retreat! If we take out four Ice Trolls and then get some more Trolls to come out into the sunlight, we’ll be doing well.”
“I agree that we deal with these three and then start a strategic withdrawal to draw them out.”
(Retreat is cowardly and not something dwarves readily do, but strategic withdrawal is good tactics.)
Ghan continues “Yes be ready for a ‘strategic withdrawal’! Remember that one unprepared Troll took nearly half of Gwaelur’s health with one blow!”
