Mike Sherman, hypocrite extraordinaire

Excuse me. I know several Vikings fans, one is my best friend, and they all agree: Hovan is a dick.

I was sent an article from Vikingsnews a few days before the game that indicated Hovan was mouthing off days before the game about how he was going to ‘get Favre’.

Don’t make him out to be some sort of angel.

Not to mention that was Hovan’s side of the story.

The real problem was that the Vikings were fricking freezing their asses off, losing a game they probably should have won, during a season that has sucked. Most football games have all sorts of crap and bullshit going on, I don’t think much here was out of the ordinary for an NFL game, except the VIkings obvious over-flowing frustration.

Also, no mention so far of several Viking players coming off the bench to hit Sharper during his int return.

Lots o’ bad blood in this one. Can’t wait til next year!

Also, re: Hovan. Can anyone with a mullet like that be a good guy???

Didn’t you miss Favre’s quote? It’s not a nice man’s game.

Something Walter Payton would be shocked to hear, I’m sure

Bullshit. You try to strip him. He’s not trying to move forward, so you don’t have to worry about stopping him. And a good strip will work a hell of a lot better than a cheap shot. Especially since if you clock a guy already down you increase the odds of the ground forcing the fumble, thus making it worthless to you.

Forcing the fumble is just a half-assed rationalization for having gotten away with something.

You CAN’T force a fumble after a knee any more than you can after a fair catch. There was no excuse whatever for the hit.

And Bret Favre started that shit with Hovan. Hovan should have cleaned his fucking clock.

And how about complete lack of class shown by Packer fans, throwing bottles and garbage onto the field? (none of those bottles were full, I betcha) Packer fans are mostly toothless alcoholic white trash so I wasn’t surprised. Packer fans are the lowest form of life on Earth.

It’s so cute when the fans of 3-10 teams get all pompous…cuz we know there are no ill behaved Vikings fans.
FWIW, Favre apologized for his contribution to the idiocy of the game.

And, the NFL while not exactly apologizing, admits at least 9 officiating mistakes in this game, including what should have been a late hit on Walsh and the phantom pass interference.

NFL admits lousy officiating

2 days later-- after the media was all over his ass. He is a great player, but what a dick at times.

Well the Packers - Viking games should be fun for a while. Especially seeing the Vikes pretty much own Favre when they play in Minn.

I will dance a jig when the Packers lose on the road again.

Geez Diogenes, I know you’re frustrated about losing the game, (especially since it was stolen from you by poor officiating, even I agree the interference call was bogus) but your insult is going more than a little overboard.

I am not the lowest form of life… I’m at least an amoeba or something.

Hey, you’re responsible for all that beer and cheese. That makes you at least a yeast:D

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The NFL has acknowledged its officiating crew made at least nine mistakes during Sunday’s Green Bay-Minnesota game, including a key pass interference call, two newspapers reported Wednesday.

The mistakes were documented in a confidential memorandum, the Star Tribune and St. Paul Pioneer Press said, citing unidentified sources.

The Vikings (3-10) lost the game 26-22 in Green Bay. Eight of the affected plays occurred in the fourth quarter, when the Packers (10-3) made up a nine-point deficit with two touchdowns. An interference call negated a Vikings’ interception on the Packers’ game-winning drive.

Both papers reported the league’s correspondence with the Vikings.

“Conversations between the NFL officiating department and teams are confidential,” NFL spokesman Michael Signora said. “We do not comment on them.”

Vikings coach Mike Tice declined comment. Team officials are prohibited from discussing confidential communication with the league.

On Monday, the Vikings sent in 12 officials’ calls the team disagreed with. In a response, league supervisors wrote that Vikings safety Corey Chavous should not have been called for pass interference against Donald Driver on a third-down pass that safety Jack Brewer intercepted.

“It doesn’t matter what they say after the fact,” Chavous said. “We lost the game.”

Under the NFL’s instant replay policy, pass interference penalties are not subject to review. Tony Fisher scored the go-ahead touchdown for Green Bay four plays later.

NFL teams routinely fill out such forms on the day after games, seeking clarification or explanations for calls, and it is not unusual for mistakes to be acknowledged affecting both teams.

Among other mistakes detailed in the document, league supervisors wrote that Packers receiver Robert Ferguson should have been ruled out of bounds at the 1-yard line rather than given a 40-yard touchdown reception with 10:48 left in the fourth quarter. The Vikings did not challenge the call via instant replay.

**The NFL also wrote that Packers safety Antuan Edwards should have received an unnecessary roughness penalty for hitting Vikings receiver Chris Walsh, who had taken a knee to stop the next-to-last play of the game, and that Packers linebacker Nate Wayne also should have been penalized for blocking receiver Randy Moss in the back on the final play of the game. ** bold added.

Ok, I was a little over the top in my characterization of Packers fans. Chalk it up to some bad experiences at games. (Don’t wear a Moss jersey at Lambeau unless you want beer poured all over it)

There are idiot fans at all stadiums, but it just seems to me like Lambeau has more of them. However, I DO have to admit that there have been a few Packer fans there who didn’t taunt me, pour beer on me or try to piss on my leg in the bathroom. Kudos to them.

And i’m with Elf6c, I can’t wait until the Packers get beat like a drum in the play-offs (hopefully by Tampa).

It’s weird, I hate the Bears more than any team, but I actually enjoy Bears fans in general. Meanwhile, with the Vikings, I am fairly neutral on the team, but their fans always get on my nerves, present company excepted, of course.

And in fair and equal time…I hate the Packers a ton, but it was a VIKINGS fan that called me a fat fucking cunt at Soldier Field. So lets just agree nobody’s perfect.

Diogenes, on behalf of all civil Wisconsin Packer fans, I apologize for the rowdy and rude behavior you experienced. For the record though, I think Philadelphia has the reputation for the worst fans. With, IIRC, New England and Giants fans right behind.

Signed,
Your Humble Yeast

Hey, no problem Algernon, Most people there AREN’T jerks, you just remember the ones that are.
I’ve heard that stuff about Philly fans too, but I’ve never been there.

jarbaby, I apologize on behalf of Vikings fans for the cretin at Soldier Field. It was an especially stupid thing to do in an opponant’s stadium.

I personally always try to be nice to opposing fans at the Metrodome, maybe a little good natured smack talk back and forth, but that’s it. And I will be the first to tell an obnoxious Vikings fan to get fucked if they are harrassing a visiting fan.

We can agree that there are assholes in every city. Could alcohol have something to do with it?

Well, what do you expect when your team is named either for a generic region or a state that they no longer play in. At least my Lions are back in Detroit (for the first time in my 21 years, no less). BTW, I think Vikes fans are worse than Pack fans, at least in my experiences at the old Silverdome.

Re the OP, I think it would have been smarter for the GB player to stand over Walsh until the clock ran out, since the zebras weren’t blowing the whistle anyhow.

And, for the record, I really think the Lions will beat the Bucs this weekend. We, somehow, always seem to beat the absoulute best teams that no one else can touch on some stupid fluke play.

Sorry for the hijacks.

I was unable to watch the entirety of the game, so I missed all the fireworks, so I won’t comment on some of the plays.

However, if Hovan had beer and tobacco juice thrown on him after the game, that’s pretty classless, and I’m embarrassed. Even though that trash talking fuck was giving the fans the finger, the fans should be better than him and not pelt him with anything. And his little brushup with Favre, I got no problem with that. Hovan was shooting his mouth off all game in the earlier game, and was shooting it off in the papers, and then he bitches and whines when Favre trash talks after the game.

I have to disagree completely with Cynic. Incidents like that at Lambeau are quite rare, I’ve never seen it happen in the games I’ve been, and I’ve had Bears fans actually say they don’t have any problem with the fans at Lambeau. And, I’m sorry, but how silly is it to wear the jersey of one of the biggest fuckups in the NFL, Moss to a game at Lambeau. Put on your Tarkington jersey and they’ll show you a bit of respect, maybe. But if they were that rude to you, I apologize for that too.

We still won, though, and that must hurt. I won’t apologize for that.

(bolding mine)

Sometimes I find it hard to explain why I love football so much, but you’ve summed it up perfectly.
