Mike Tyson to fight YouTuber Jake Paul this July. Yeah, you read that correctly

Hopefully Mike Tyson wins and it’s his offficial match in boxing at 58. He hasn’t boxed since 2005 against Mcbride. The Pauls want attention that’s why Logan Paul went to WWE and soon Make Paul might go to the WWE and tag team with his brother.

As much as I loathe the Pauls, I have to admit that Logan Paul is impressive as a wrestler. As far as celebrities-turned-wrestlers go he’s easily up there with the Miz.

I agree. The only celebrity turned pro wrestlers that wasn’t impressive was David Arquette who became WCW champion in WCW which kind of killed WCW.

Believe it or not, Arquette got back into wrestling in 2018 and has done pretty well on the indy scene, having memorable matches with the likes of Colt Cabana, “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry (son of the late Luke Perry), and Nick Gage.

You people have to putting me on.

David Arquette? The kid brother of the Arquette sisters?

All right, that does sound familiar. I acquiesce and restate that I have no knowledge of this TV “wrestling” or the fake boxing thing, or whatever the the celubatantes are doing when they engage in their cotillion and exchange corsages or whatever they do.

It’s not going to be a fight, though, between Burn-out stoner Mike and the lesser Paul. Headgear, big puffy gloves. I apologize if I seem a bit pessimistic, but I like boxing. And I’m old enough that I’m contemptuous of MMA UFC “people” trying to mix it up against real boxers. They never get it right.

Hell, give it back to Don King to set up a proper fight! You know, couldn’t be any worse!

I’d never heard of these guys before this thread. Then yesterday I was watching Full Swing (golf series on Netflix), and S2.1 had Brooks Koepka appearing on a show - podcast or something - with Paul. Weird when that happens.

It’s called the Baader-Meinhof effect, when you learn of something or someone and it’s everywhere. I also have no clue who these guys are, but I’m sure I’ll start noticing them everywhere.

I know the following:

  1. One or both of them promotes Prime drink the kids at school love. South Park did an episode about it.
  2. One visited a Japanese “suicide forest” or something and mocked the dead bodies. I never saw it and don’t really get what that is about, but it’s a thing.
  3. One or both became a boxer and I think one fought the really famous Irish(?) UFC fighter and one maybe fought Floyd Mayweather, but I’m not sure about the second one. Certainly Mayweather would destroy them so it could not have been a real fight if it happened.

Fighitng Mike Tyson is neat, but if they really mean business, they need to challenge a current top-ranked boxer. They can’t be good enough for that.

A brief Google suggests they won’t have headgear and is “remains to be seen” on the gloves, though the actual rules aren’t out yet. Could certainly change since nothing’s been made official.

Logan Paul fought Mayweather. It was an official exhibition with no winner. Paul is much bigger but Floyd was obviously better. Mayweather did just enough to keep it interesting

Similarly to other posters, I was a pretty good amateur athlete and could hold my own at the college skill level (soccer). I’d played a couple recreational games with some pro MLS players, and the skill gap was unreal, my best efforts felt like ineffectively chasing the wind while the pros were still playing relaxed without any committed “game day” effort. My dollar is on Tyson.

With an unknown set of rules there’s nothing to be said about this so called ‘fight’ for the time being. It will probably be an exhibition fight. Someone above mentioned the concept of an ‘official exhibition’ fight, which means not really a fight at all and won’t count on their records. I don’t think Tyson cares about his record but Paul might. If Tyson has stayed in shape Paul probably has no chance to win even if he runs away. Tyson has no reason to exhaust himself trying to chase down Paul on his bicycle1 so he’ll win any credible decision based on aggression alone, and possibly for making Paul cry like a baby2 from body shots. If Paul pisses Tyson off somehow he risks Tyson trying not to knock him out at all but simply punish him.

1 bicycle - A boxing announcer’s term of art meaning running away.

2 cry like a baby - A schoolyard term of art meaning crying like a baby.

Ah.

Perrhaps I should not rely on reddit threads for “news”!

Ignorance fought!

Wait and see, I guess.

FTR, I didn’t actually mean to insult the great Iron Mike with the “stoner” thing…just a lighthearted jab at him (from a very safe distance away!). It does seem that he’s pretty heavily into the devil’s lettuce, by way of the gossip mill, but I seriously doubt it’s turned him into a flower child! Not all the way, anyway.

Possibly even an exhibition match? Well, we did see how that went with Mayweather and the bigger Paul…just toying with the kid, really.

I guess it remains to be seen if Mike would be into that…but, what 20 mil? is what I heard…that buys a lot of pigeon chow!

Conor McGregor, maybe? I did catch him vs. Mayweather a while back, and, to my eyes, it was no contest at all. I did have some friendly arguments with guys at work who took the opposite view, but decision went to Floyd. TKO.

Well, that’s not cool! To state the obvious!

He’s a total hippie now and I have proof!

lol!

(see, we do need some kind of reaction buttons here!)

genuinely, first laugh of the day, and it has been a long day for me!

you get an internet!

Punchers don’t lose the power. If Tyson connects, Paul will be lucky to avoid the morgue. I just hope Tyson breaks a few of Paul’s ribs before knocking him out.

Punching somehow magically immune from the effects of aging and being in shape? Do you really think 58 year old, exhibition match Mike Tyson hits as hard as 22 year old heavyweight champion Mike Tyson?

I don’t think he hits as hard. But still hard enough to hurt Jake Paul, and knock him out if the circumstances arise. I don’t expect him to have the speed and movement of his younger days, but if Paul lingers in range Tyson can land serious punches on Paul’s head and body.

No, but it’s the last of the core boxing skills to deteriorate with age. Tyson is in shape, there is little doubt that he can still hit hard.

Apparently, Paul needs to put on some weight to fight Tyson as a heavyweight. I wonder how much of an effect that will have on the fight-you’d have to get used to being bigger, right? Joe Rogan thinks Tyson will win, if that sways anyone’s vote.
