Wow. after reading previous posts where people say they drink a gallon a week, I must drink a lot of milk.
At home, cold milk is my beverage of choice. I usually drink a half gallon or more per day . I have always loved cold milk. Though I used to drink whole milk, a few years ago I switched to 2% and am now used to the taste. I have tried the 1% style, but it is too watery.
I always buy Bordens. To me, any other brand tastes funny. A lot of milk has a taste in it that lets you know it came from a plastic container. Nothing is better than Bordens Dutch Chocolate milk. I don’t dare buy any because I would drink even more milk than I do now.
I have a lot of friends who think I’m crazy to drink milk. To them, it’s a kids drink. Milk is added to some things, but not drunk alone. They use so little milk with their cereal, they are almost having it dry.
Oh well. I’ve never broken a bone and my cholesterol isn’t high, so I’m going to enjoy my glass of cold milk while I can. Maybe with Oreos … mmmmmmmm!
Nothing but whole milk and buttermilk in our house. We go through at least a gallon and a half a week of sweet milk and maybe a quart of buttermilk. My darling Marcie refuses to try buttermilk, even though she dotes on yogurt. Skim milk is an abberation and a stench in the nostrils of God.
Buttermilk’s a not uncommon drink in the South, especially for Baby Boomers and, I assume, the Silent Generation. My guess is that it’s an outgrowth of the Depression and by the time of Gen X and Y, anyone that wanted milk could afford it and not have to substitute buttermilk if they didn’t want to.
As for me, I occasionally drink a glass of skim but I usually only use milk with cereal in the mornings. I don’t do any intensive cooking so it doesn’t go in any meals and on the rare occasion that I drink coffee, I use non-dairy creamer.
Chai gets whatever the restaurant I’m ordering it from puts in it.
But, hey, thanks for the info on buttermilk! I guess I’ve seen my dad take a swig out of the carton after making pancakes, but I just thought it was a weird dad thing. But he’s old (not really; 50) and from the south, so I guess I’ll just take your word for it then. Odd.
Raw milk is better for the body, If you dont mind ingesting a ton or two of antibiotics which are piled into cattle feed. If i drink milk it may as well be battery acid I reckon theres not much difference between them
I suspect your scientific method needs a little work (dip a finger in whole milk, and some battery acid and get back to us). I also suspect you’re falling prey to a TON of panic-based, soundbite-savvy fearmongering.
Next thing you’ll be telling us about fluoride in the water and penicillin.
And doesnt your reply to my comment on milk make you the tosser for not being remotely aware of what exactly is a major part of a good many foodstuffs and drinks that are available to buy and indeed are bought and consumed in larger amounts than i can easly count and you win the the consolation prize for trying to cover up your lack of knowledge on these issues by trying to accuse me of falling prey[ to a TON of panic-based, soundbite-savvy fearmongering. ] stop whatever habit you are engaging in that prevents you from absorbing fact and spouting bullshit. :wally
Stinkyuk, your post has been (will have been) reported for violating board rules. Namely, don’t be a jerk and don’t insult or use the putz smiley to refer to another poster outside of the Pit. I’ll leave it up to a moderator to explain in more detail if they see fit.
Further, There’s no documented proof that BGH (That’d be Bovine Growth Hormone) has any negative effect on the population at large.
Remember the big scare over saccarine? Funny how that kinda disappeared when it was discoverd the rats were almost entirely subsisting on it. It is no longer a Bad Thing™, but didn’t it sure make headlines?
Hmph, how about: “The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, after extensive scientific study, determined that milk from cows receiving BGH is no different from milk produced by cows not receiving BGH.”
I drink milk by itself, and have all my life. My mother switched me from 2% to 1% when I was about ten years old. Since I left home, I drink skim milk, but I keep some 2% around to put in coffee–I really think that little bit of fat makes all the difference. I probably drink a glass of milk every day, usually as a snack. And put quite a lot in my coffee, which I don’t have every day. I also eat a lot of yogurt. I think it’s especially important for me, because I’m on two medications that tend to take calcium out of bones. I also take a multivitamin with lots of calcium in it.
You’re new, stinkyuk, but you’ve posted some good stuff. Unfortunately you went well over a line with this one.
The only place we permit flaming is in the Pit. In IMHO, you keep focus on the issues, not the posters. Don’t do this again.
