How long should a toilet flapper last?

So recently I’ve noticed that one of my toilets is refilling its tank at seemingly random times. I know, this is the classic symptom of a bad flapper. But… I already replaced the flapper in that toilet not that long ago. I mean, it was a few years ago, but I would expect the flapper to last longer than that.
