"Miss Elizabeth" dead at 42

Atlanta-Journal Constitution

Don’t know if any wrestling fans (new or old) have heard or are interested in this, but Miss Elizabeth, pro-wrestling’s original “diva” was taken to a hospital after a call to the police from fellow wrestling personality Lex Luger.

According to various reports, “Liz” died in the hospital as the result of a drug overdose. Conflicting reports have Lex Luger questioned, released and arrested on charges of posession.

This saddens me, because many of my favorite “all-time” personalities have been passing away due to substance abuse, including the British Bulldog and “Mr. Perfect” Curt Henning. It seems that with the exception of some, such as Owen Hart and the Junkyard Dog (who died due to accidents) many of my favorites of old have succumbed to drug use.

This is me: Sad. :frowning:

Well, rats.

Miss Elizabeth was about the classiest personality ever to grace the wrestling scene. I’m shocked to find out that she was actually a year younger than me, simply because she always seemed like such a lady. O.D.ing doesn’t seem like a death I’d ever have expected for her.

If any of the old-time wrestlers runs across this, my sincere condolances. (Hey, Doper’s are everywhere, right?)

Wait a minute … Lex Luger ?!
What kind of a name is that?
It sounds like a cross between Superman’s arch-enemy and a 9 millimeter semiautomatic pistol.

That was probably the idea, it’s obviously not his real name.

I haven’t seen Lex Luger in years. 12 or 13 years ago Lex Luger was either one of the finest developed and conditioned athletes in Pro-Wrestling or a walking steroid cabinet. I hate to see a pic of him now.

Unfortunately, a lot of these people seem to live short lives (Curt “Mr. Perfect” Henning, Rick Rude, Davey Boy “British Bulldog” Smith, just in the last few years).

What struck me most about Ms. Elizabeth was that she was a “diva” (i.e. a successful woman in wrestling, even if she was only a valet) in the days before every woman in professional wrestling had implants and wore stripper outfits. She brought a certain style to a sweaty, rough-and-tumble sport. May she rest in peace.

According to this article, Lex Luger was arrested for possession of “large quantities” of anabolic steroids found while they were invesigating Ms. Elizabeth’s death. So your guess of “walking steroid cabinet” may be accurate.

I remember Ms. Elizabeth from the Macho Man/George “The Animal” Steel rivalry days. Was she ever actually a wrestler, or was she more of an out of the ring personality?

I’m sure there are mor knowledgable wrestling fans on the boards, but I don’t recall her ever wrestling.

Miss Elizabeth (ex-wife of Randy Savage) was not a wrestler. While she may have taken a rare ‘bump’ (where she gets hit in some manner), I’m pretty sure that she would have been well protected by the attacker. I’m a longtime wrestling fan, and I also never recall Miss Elizabeth in the ring as a wrestler, even in a gimmick match.
