Also from today’s game, a nice father’s day moment. Troy Tulowitzki, a new father, hit a homerun to left center in the second. Another new father, with his baby in his right arm, happened to be walking out of the tunnel just as the ball came down and caught it with his bare left hand.
Last year Steve Delabar did it for the Blue Jays and they mentioned how rare it was. I admit I was shocked it’s that rare a feat; I still remember Danny Jackson striking out three men on nine pitches in the 1985 World Series and I don’t recall people at the time remarking he’d done something amazing. I just assumed it was something that happened now and again, but in fact it’s rarer than the no hitter (historically; it happens way more than it used to.)
Amazing that since the beginning of last season the Nationals are 9-30 against the Braves and Cardinals and 112-81 against everybody else. Has anyone who follows other teams closely seen another otherwise decent team tank to that degree against two other teams over almost a season and a half?
Every time i see Johnson enter the game, i thank the Orioles front office for trading him. At least Oakland only have to pay him ten million bucks for a single season.
This has been a good 10 days of baseball for me. I got to catch the Dodgers first two games in Colorado but missed the third due to tornados and then today my wife just bought me tickets to Dodgers/Rockies sitting right behind the visitor’s dugout.
Tonight will be her first time at Dodger Stadium and my first time since Opening Day 2011.
The Reds are slowly, inexorably climbing back into the NL Central race. There’s no more injury excuses, everyone is back and healthy now. They’d better go on a run if they want to make the postseason.
