MLB Playoffs 2018: Who Wins It All?

Ball hadn’t even cleared the fence when he spiked his glove. He then stood over it the entire time Puig circled the bases. Immature.

No crying in baseball. I stand by my comment.

Which I agree is silly.

What a stupid concept: that a player cannot show emotion, be exasperated with himself for having served up what he knew the minute it left the bat was a killer home run. I think you need to check your reasoning on this.

Nope.

Cripes, the Sox are relentless.

He didn’t just join this team. 4 runs down in the 6th is a far cry from out of it for this team, as evidenced by the current score. I’m fine being the only one who thinks the childish even for little league reaction is embarrassing.

The Sox had a very good chance to win game 3 and it just didn’t work out, but if it had LA would have been swept. That’s how good Boston is.

Watching these games just can’t be healthy.

Remember that discussion somewhere around here about pitch framing? Well, Blake Swihart is just terrible at it and cost Kimbrel 2 to 4 strikes in the 9th.

Unreal the Sox can win with Betts and Martinez going 0 for LA. Steve Pearce should have his number retired at Fenway after tonight.

Dave Roberts is a great guy, a great motivator, a beloved manager and a moron.

Seriously.

Hill was pulled in the 6th, despite keeping them totally off balance and giving up a sole hit. He showed no signs of wear and looked like he could have finished the game up in about 40 minutes. Dodgers cruising with a 4-0 lead. But that’s not good enough for Roberts, he has to make the same mistakes that he should have learned from. Namely, Jansen is a closer so why are you constantly bringing him in in the 8th? Madson has choked during every appearance. Why him? Stop looking at the damn numbers and use your head.

Does Scoscia still want to manage?

I’m not one to muhc criticize managers’ in-game strategy, but Roberts’ bullpen usage just didn’t work at all. He brought in six relievers and every one of them was bad. That’s a hell of an accomplishment.

I haven’t been a baseball fan since I could count my age in single digits, but last night I was mystified as to why he took Madea out; the guy was clobbering the Sox after he fielded that bunt successfully (and really well done, too).

But then some new guy came in and he gave up the game.

Glad to know it wasn’t just me, that the coach really is kind of loopy about pitching subs.

Watching baseball players act human makes the sport more enjoyable.

I mean, robot baseball would be cool but only if they’re actually robots and not just pretending.

Will it end tonight? Or Tuesday?

Which six other relievers should he have brought in instead? Sometimes the players’ sucking is the players’ fault.

Tonight. Cora has been going all-out to win the current game, with no thought of saving anyone for the next one. That isn’t going to change. The starting pitchers have bought into it too, especially Price.

I think both teams want it to end tonight to avoid playing in cold wet Fenway.

Tonight it is, then!

I hope we’re right.

What the hell difference does it make if he brings Jansen in during the 8th or 9th inning? It’s not like he was brought in mid-inning, so he should have been ready to go. He’s not going to pitch the 8th any different than he would the 9th, since it’s his first inning pitching. If he gives up a gopher ball, which he did in each game, there’s no reason he wouldn’t have given such a home run up in the 9th of each game, had Roberts waited until then to bring him in.

The usual knock against bringing your 9th-inning closer early is that it forces him to pitch a second inning to close things out. If as a result, the 8th is clean and the 9th is bad, you can criticize the move. But that’s not what happened, and there’s no reason Jansen shouldn’t be able to pitch a clean 8th.

This series is exposing one Dodgers weakness (and there aren’t many) — middle relief.
