MLB Postseason prediction and playoff talk thread!

I’d argue Toronto’s was better. Best pitching staff in baseball hands down.

It’s too bad their batters couldn’t hit water falling out of a boat.

We took ours down as well. Now I just hope the White Sox choke, because I really don’t want their fans rubbing their win in my face.

Someday I am going to run out of maybe next years…

I’m going to chime in with the sympathy for the Cubs fans. I was really kind of hoping for a Cubs-Phillies match in the NLCS. To watch your team just kind of sit there is heartbreaking. Sorry, guys.

While I’m being all sportsmanlike, well done to the Brewers. Those were four pretty decent games on both sides: no pathetic choking, nobody got walked all over, it was just some honest baseball.

Just got home from Fenway - ugh, that sucked. The Sox really didn’t play well, and Becket didn’t look comfortable on the mound.

Ok, so the Dodgers and Phillies are on to the next round, but the Angels and White Sox cling to life.

Which of these will be able to win the next two in a row?
Who will be the next team to qualify for the LCS?

I think that the Angels might have a chance now that they have the Red Sox monkey off of their backs, but still the odds favor the Sox. I feel like the Rays need to win this afternoon against the palehose (and Sonnanstine has had some very strong outings of late) or they might choke it away back at home.

So I pick the Red Sox to qualify next.

Damned Red Sox . . . all they had to do was win, and the White Sox would have slid into prime time.

Sonnanstine totally dominated the White Sox during two appearances in Tampa, but at the Cell in August the Sox managed four runs off of him via (what else?) home runs. Such is their recipe for success at home.

It was argued by the esteemed BoxCar Willie …um, I mean John Kruk … that tonight’s game in Boston is a must-win for the Sox, else the Angels will win the series.

Firstly, I have two words for Krukie … John Motherfucking Lester. I feel very good about the hometown’s chances tonight.

Secondly, even if Lester pulls a fallopian or something and totally blows the game, I’m still liking our Dice-K chances back on the left coast.

Either way is cool. Assuming the Rays advance (and that’s still definitely an assumption and not a fait accompli) then I wanted to get the Angels for purely selfish reasons (it fit into my personal schedule better with games here next week instead of this Friday and Saturday). That said, it would be pretty cool if the ALCS became an AL East showdown. Would help to build up the nascent rivalry they’ve been working on this year, and the crowds at the Trop will be more interesting with the Sox there (a lot more fights in the stands and ejections that way). FWIW, the Red Sox fans we get here can be about as obnoxious as they come, but Terry Francona is pure class and most of the players are pretty cool, too. I also like Ozzie Guillen, for that matter, for his total lack of filter with regards the press.

The only things John Kruk knows about are hitting and hamburgers.

I mean, I can’t even begin to name all the times some nitwit like John Kruk has babbled about this sort of thing and turned out to be wrong. In baseball, momentum is tomorrow’s starting pitcher. If the Red Sox and completely humiliated 27-0 in game 4 they are just as likely to win Game 5 as they would have been under any other circumstances.

Woot!

Rays 6 - White Sox 4
Rays 6 - White Sox 2
White Sox 5 - Rays 3
Rays 6 - White Sox 2

Go RAYS!!

Cool, the Angels are making it interesting. Still don’t care which of you we play, just want another game in Anaheim and two long, cross country flights.

As I’ve said, he posts while barely controlling his pulse, the Angels cannot beat the Sox in the playoffs.
With apologies to my neighbors for screaming and whistling as loud as I can at 11:30 on a Monday night.

Gonna be a good series … Sox v Rays. Has there ever been a really good donnybrook in the post season?

Congrats to the Sox, they earned it. Once more into the fray we go.

I’ll be at the game on Friday but I think I’m going to sell my Saturday tickets since I have a trip scheduled.

Sure. Notably the 2003 ALCS (Red Sox/Yankees) when Manny charged the mound for an inside pitch (total bullshit–the pitch was almost a strike, but that’s neither here nor there). Most famous for Don Zimmer attacking Pedro Martinez and Pedro tossing Zim down by his big bald head.

How could I forget?

I think this upcoming series may have even more chance for a bubbling up of emotions. I don’t know how it came to be, but these two teams hate each other. Almost as much as Yankees/Boston.

Oh, quite. I’ve been quietly rooting for a Rays/Sox match-up for that reason, even though I think the Red Sox stand (rather, stood) a better chance against Chicago.

That and the Rays are my third choice this postseason (after Boston and the Cubs, which I guess makes them my second).

So, with the field narrowed to four, who are people predicting to meet in the WS?

I’m still pulling for Sox v Dodgers. It is the most compelling story-line, if you ask me.

Manny in Dodger Blue heading back to Fenway? Fuhgeddabouddit…

I want the Dodgers, but we have to take care of business against Tampa first. And frankly, Tampa really scares me. But we’ll see what happens on Friday.

Love that dirty water, oh, Boston you’re my home!

That would be fun, but I’m not sure I agree that it’s the most compelling story line. Certainly what MLB is hoping for though (big market vs bigger market, Coast vs Coast, yadda yadda yadda).
