MLB Postseason prediction and playoff talk thread!

I really hope we manage to avoid a match-up of the two wild card teams. Every year that a wild card team gets into the Series, I get just a little bit upset at the fact. :frowning:

So I am 2 of 4 so far plus I got the one game playoff right.

The teams I picked for the World Series are already gone. I am depressed that the Cubs are gone and the Red Sox have advanced.

I’m happy for Tampa.

I think the Dodgers will beat Philly and I hope Tampa beats Boston.

I’m pulling for the Rays as well. This year’s Rays team gives Royals fans hope.

I’m not exactly rooting for them (unless they make the Series), but Tampa Bay has an excellent shot of winning the pennant. They hung tough against the Red Sox all year.

Dodgers over Phils in 7.

Just wanted to say that it sucks that we have to wait all week for another baseball game… this is like waiting for Christmas!

Yeah, I don’t like the breaks either. Wish we could get the games started tomorrow.

The only real “news” that I’ve seen lately is that Boston will go with this rotation:

Game 1: Dice-K
Game 2: Beckett
Game 3: Lester

I find it a bit odd that Francona is not using Lester until Game 3. He’s the hot guy right now, so you’d think they’d want to get the most out of him. Plus, Tampa Bay struggles against lefthanders.

Of course Dice-K didn’t “lose” against the Rays, but the Rays are 2-1 in games which Matsusaka started, including wins at the Trop and Fenway.

Beckett split his starts evenly with the Rays, 2-2, although the late season loss was credited to Mike Timlin, who gave up 3 in the 14th for the loss in Boston.

The Red Sox were 3-0 against the Rays in Lester starts, although they were all in the friendly confines of Fenway.

Rays will start Shields, Kazmir, Garza and then probably Sonnanstine.

Unless they plan on starting Matsuzaka three times 1-4-7, it doesn’t really make any difference. The top three starters will all start twice, unless the series ends in 4 or 5 games, in which case you’ve either won or were going to get beat anyway.

Dice-K is unbeaten on the road and Lester seems to pitch particularly well at Fenway. As you pointed out, Lester’s undefeated this year against the Rays at home. Makes sense to me.

Man, did Ramirez CRUSH that pitch to centerfield… that was one of the biggest blasts I’ve ever seen, and it wasn’t even a home run. I swear the Philly crowd went dead silent when he got a hold of that one.

Bah. We’ll be back tomorrow.

Fuck.

I think I’m pulling for the Phillies. I don’t really much care, actually, but I figure if we can make all of the sports news stop being about Manny Ramirez, I’m cool with that.

Aw yeah.

I’m certainly not liking this. The Dodgers need to come back and win one big time. Tonight was a winnable game and they let it get away.

I’ve not forgiven the Dodgers for moving from Brooklyn in 1958. The Dodgers just belong in Brooklyn and not in LA. That move gave the Mets an opportunity to establish themselves in NYC later. That started the decent of MLB into a slow decline into mediocrity.

At least the Phillies and the RedSox have remained loyal to their point of origin and to their local fanbase. So those are who I will be supporting from here on out.

Yes, I do have a long memory and I do maintain deep resentments like a well-tended garden.

Is it me or would Ryan Howard have walked each at bat so far if he simply didn’t swing?

I’m leaving for the game shortly. Need to time it to miss the bridge traffic, yet get there early enough to park on the street. Wish me luck.

Good luck. Uh, getting to the game and finding parking, that is. Not so much on the game itself.

(No offense, I’m just not on your side on this one. Have fun anyway.)

What is that, 5 pitchers already for the Dodgers…and it’s only the 3rd. Not to mention the Phils learned to score in more than one inning…man I love this.
