MLB Postseason prediction and playoff talk thread!

The bad: I missed the damn game because I was so busy this afternoon.

The good: 8-5 final, Phillies lead the series 2-0 is an awesome thing to come home to.

I think this is about twice as many people as I have ever seen before at the Trop, and I watch a LOT of AL East baseball.

I’m glad the Phillies won, but damn, if Manny ain’t the Man right now.

Last inning was a nail biter. Lidge gives me the shits I swear. It’s gonna take a better effort from Howard…actually…any effort at all from him will be welcome…for them to be dominant in L. A. …but I’ll be crossing my fingers.

I watched from home while my fiance took her mom to the game…I am soooo jealous right now.

I was going to watch the free UFC PPV on Spike, but Game 2 of BoSox-Rays is in extras. I hope that the Rays can even the series tonight.

Rays won Game 2 in 11, tying the series. Go Tampa Bay!

OK, I’ve scored a ticket to today’s game! It’s my first playoff game ever! Come on Dodgers, don’t let me down! Phuck the Phillies! Although, I think I’ll have a Phillipe’s before the game. I am really excited!

Where are you sitting? I’m in Top Deck, Section 7.

And I got email from the Dodgers yesterday telling me I get a shot at the pre-sale for World Series tickets next week. WORLD SERIES TICKETS!! C’mon guys…we need to sweep at home. Just to even hold World Series tickets when it would matter to me is such a dream…LET’S GO DODGERS!

What exactly does" get a shot" mean? Are you now part of a limited group that has a legitimate chance or are the odds similar to Jim Carrey getting with Lauren Holly in “Dumb and Dumber”?

OK, desperate times call for desperate measures.

As soon as the Arizona Cardinals defeat the Cowboys today, I’m changing my laptop wallpaper to a Dodgers one for the rest of the playoffs.

I have a mini-season package, so right after full-season ticket holders, we get the next opportunity to buy playoff tickets – before they go on sale to the general public. So, my phrasing was bad – it’s more than just a shot. I will definitely be able to purchase WS tickets.

I just meant that, in the worst-case scenario, the Dodgers could be eliminated from the playoffs before World Series tickets went on sale to me on Tuesday.

Promise KEPT!!!

Laptop wallpaper just changed to a Dodgers wallpaper!

Manny lines an RBI single his first time up.

I’ve liked the Phillies since I was a kid and I’m cheering for them, but Manny has been just amazing. Disruptive influence, you say? Damn right he is, disruptive on the opposing pitcher.

This is ugly early. I’m hoping Moyer is gone by next inning.

I love Philippe’s, very jealous. Glad you got to see a win, although I’m still pulling for the Phillies in this one.

Had a good time at the Rays game Friday night, even though we couldn’t hit with runners in scoring position and let it slip away. Kudos to the Red Sox on that one. Then kudos to us for sticking it out and winning early Sunday. What a nerve-wracking game, I was sure we’d find a way to lose, especially after Wheeler sent it in to extra innings. I expect Boston to take Monday’s game, but think that we have a shot on Wednesday and Thursday. Francona pushed his luck keeping Daisuke in as long as he did on Friday.

Oy, that was ugly.

Best part: Victorino’s body language after Kuroda’s beanball.

Worst part: Pretty much everything else in the game. sigh

We’ll be back tomorrow.

Man, another fun game for the Dodgers. Having been at both the clincher against the Cubs and tonight’s game, I can say it’s a lot easier to deal with when we jump to an early lead. Friday aside, our pitching has been pretty damn good during the playoffs.

We still really need to win the next two, though. I don’t think we can afford to need to win two in Philly. But first, one game at a time, of course.

I will say, I don’t know how much this goes on in other stadiums, but I get really tired of Dodger fans chanting “[opposing team] sucks!” Seriously, people. I mean, that doesn’t even make sense. The Phillies won their division with a much better record than we had, beat their oppoenents handily in the first round of the playoffs, had a 2-0 lead over us in this series, and this is what you chant from the beginning of the game? If I played for the Phillies, I’d wonder what exactly Dodger fans were smoking.

And also, get off my lawn!

No (organized) chanting of “[other team] sucks” at the Trop*. I was a bit disappointed that a decent number of folks were booing the Red Sox every time they were announced or came to the plate, mostly early in the game. I think booing is cheesy and should be reserved for classless individuals like A.J. Piersynski or the blatantly bad call.
*When the BoSox fans would get rowdy they’d get shouted down, and there may have been some tacky stuff thrown in there, but it was hard to tell.

I agree. The only booing I do these days is very quietly when Jeff Kent gets an at-bat. His departure from the Dodgers will be the best thing about the season ending.

Dodgers sent me email this morning saying they’ve released some extra tickets for tonight and tomorrow’s games. So very tempting, but seeing as how four tickets in the normally-$9 cheap seats for the World Series are going to cost me $624 (before Ticketmaster fees!), I need to conserve my cash.

So, a question for you guys. If the Dodgers actually move on to the World Series, they will be the away team thanks to the All Star Game NL collapse this year. This means that I’ll have the option of buying tickets to Games Three, Four or Five (and you only get to choose one in the pre-sale). If you were me, which game would you choose? Game Three is appealing because I get to be at the first game greeting my team home from the road. Game Four is appealing because if there’s a sweep, there obviously wouldn’t be a Game Five, but Game Five clearly has the best chance out of the three choices to be the final game, for better or for worse.

What would you do?

Game 3. It’s early enough in the series so that even if the worst happens (0-3) it’s not utterly depressing and demoralizing yet.

But then I’m a pessimist.
