MMP: Baby It's COLD Outside!

And you wonder why us northern people talk southerners down. You are forever waiving your damn weather in our faces!

And now, I need some food advice. I have a boneless turkey roast I’d like to make today, but would like to do something different than the standard turkey, gravy, taters (N.O.T.) thing. Any ideas?

Maybe bake it and slice it up and make some hot sandwiches? A fancy casserole? Turkey stew? Deep-fried turkey bits?

Haven’t been here for very long, have ya? It’s well known 'round these parts that I’m a recovering Hoosier, so I have a valid reason to gloat about the weather.

Yankee by birth, Southerner by the grace of Og.

gloating goats don’t float.

I think I may have forgot my medication today

 VunderBob, I am confused (see smiley). Lumberman? Que?

It’ll be 80 Southrun degrees here today…y’all!

You could do a rice sumpin to go wif your turkey. Mebbe pilaf or long grain and wild rice. That would be tasty.

I’mma vote for smitty for this week and mika for next.

rosie, I found a sneaky way to see how coding is done. You just quote the person who has used the coding you want and it will appear in the box where you type your message. That’s how I learned how to [del]cross out stuff[/del].

Oh, an TGIF, everbuddy!

Tupug

Not that it’s that bad here, but I was rather happy about it being 40 degrees in February until you came along, Pugs. Nyah!

I ran out this morning for a quick trip to the grocery - it was mild and drizzly. The nasty stuff is moving in later today, with a chance of snow. Big whoop.

FCD is dealing with a really sore throat - swallowing is painful. I got him some ice cream - like our kid said: Ice cream makes everything better.

My day will include some heavy-duty kitchen cleaning, and maybe I’ll attack our taxes. Yep, I know how to enjoy my days off work  TGIF

Winter finally came to Chicago! It is 14 outside, but the sun is beaming. It tried to snow last noc, but since it had rained all day, I think the clouds were tired, so just a dusting.
Off to get gorgeous this morning–scheduled for haircut, highlight, blowdry and ironing. It should take (with my hair) bout 3 hours. I hope they have good magazines (new place).

My snowdrops are blooming! I seem to have lost 6 of them, but 2 are valiantly showing their faces.
I asked 2 of my 3 references if they had written and sent off my letters of recommendation to grad school yet. No. ARGH. The one whom I was worried wouldn’t, already has. Go figure.

I vote for making sammiches. You can munch on it all weekend. I think tonight is pizza night cause neither one of wants to cook and I’d just as soon order a pizza as go out and get somethin’ to eat. Tomorrow we are going to a friend’s house for her nummy lasagna. So, we could have an Eyetalian themed weekend with pizza tonight and lasagna tomorrow. I could even make my world famous Eyetalian chicken for Sunday!

Aargh! Quit it. We just got a crapload of snow, and now it’s a whole 5 freakin’ degrees. Thats F, not C. It might even get into the double digits sometime today, but tomorrow, we’ll be lucky to see above zero. :frowning: My own fault for wanting to live up nort’.

 I did that on another thread, and without realizing it, saw the secret coding for strikeout.

That’s okay, mika, turnabout happens some time in July. ::sweaty emoticon::

Winston Smith → protagonist in 1984 → suggested nick '84 → 84 Lumber is a big chain of building supply stores. Voila, Lumberman

No, I didn’t smoke anything the day I came up with that.

ok - “Lumberman” I get, but “Beets”???

You never heard of Haavahd Beets?

never by that name - those are glazed beets in my little world

They are disgusting purple things in my little world.

So this is the SDMB equivalent of Cockney rhyming slang, eh? Damn. This around here getcuriouser and curiouser.

We supposedly dodged most of the cold front that was sweeping down from up north. Oh, it’s still cold; 25 with a ROARING wind. My face felt frozen in about 30 seconds flat when I left my car in the parking lot at work. The wind is making it feel much, much, much colder. Power is out in various places, power lines, trees, branches, etc. The winds are supposed to die down by this afternoon; we shall see. All you southerners need to quit bragging about your shirt sleeve weather, harrumph!

Many congrats to you Smitty! We’re all pulling for you. Drae, keep on, keepin’ on. I’m sure the right job will come to you (if you apply for it). The sooner you can leave where you work now, the better. It sounds as though you’ve got some pretty rounded out skills, so there should be something for you.

Here’s hoping FCD has a better day today! FCM, while you’re doing your taxes, wanna do mine? I’ve got to do mine too. I hate doing them.

I guess I should do some work now. The feeling is starting to come back into my face now.

Hey, everybody! I must confess, I don’t have time right now to go back and read everything I missed yesterday, so assume that I’m sending good vibes to everybody who needs 'em, and we’ll move along.

Roomie is still home with the bad knee, but she’s got a doctor appointment in a few minutes (and hopefully she can get herself down to the car for it). I felt awful having to go into work today and leave her crying on the couch–yes, she was in so much pain this morning there were tears involved–but I had to come in.

I didn’t get a chance to look much for jobs yesterday, but I will probably have most of the afternoon free to check things out. I need to update my resume, which naturally didn’t make the computer changeover when I upgraded to a laptop last year. I don’t know why, but there are few things in the world I hate more than fixing my resume. Now I’m just trying to decide if I should give my supervisor a little warning and tell her I’m looking for other jobs. Seems like the nice-girl thing to do (and everyone here seems to think I’m a nice girl, though I don’t know where they got that idea). And then there will be the problem of finding time for interviews. They barely let me go to lunch, for fear a call will go unanswered. I can’t imagine how I’ll get out of here for interviews. However, it’s entirely possible that I can get by without a job for a week or two. I could give notice here, schedule interviews, then go on them when I’m done working. If I don’t get a great job within a week, I can temp for a while. I’m really that sick of it here already. Probably not the best idea, but it can work. I need to think on that for a bit, though.

Other than that, today sucks, and I’d like to go home. :frowning:
