MMP: Baby It's COLD Outside!

I was wondering why you married a book pillow

2 straight days of sun and near 40 degree weather has cleared out most of the snow (which makes me happy) There are even patches of grass visible where the wind blew the snow shallow

FCM - it’s good to read that everything went so well. My positive vibes are still heading your way

[old fart]Back in the day, we called them there thingies, “study cushions”[/old fart]
Nice robe–very pretty blue.
FCM --yay on progress! PT is to help strengthen muscles and joints–and they do some of the transfers from bed to chair type stuff as well. OT does alot with hands and manipulation of objects etc. They are very closesly tied together.

Am off to this “retreat” (to me, retreat means a beautiful natural setting and either some kind of spiritual thing going on, or hedonistic spa stuff–this is essentially a 4 hour long corporate meeting–and believe me, as a staff nurse, I am very much a peon who will not be asked to contribute for that whole time*).

then grocery store and then 4 days off! woot!

*not that that ever stopped me before! It’s mainly just boring.

YAY on FCD’s recovery! Of course he’s being treated like royalty. See, they know that you FCM, are one of the MMP cool kids. We always get the special treatment, and so do our SOs. It’s just supposed to be that way.

Congrats on the bonus S_F. Hmmm… nickname… Fostie? Bananas?

Nice robe mika. So, does it look better on or off him?

Last night was tres fun. Let’s just say I am one happy and relaxed bear this morning.

Good morning, kiddoes!

Glad to hear FCD is doing well.

Pretty robe, Mika! I have a sewing project, and I can’t sew. I want to make two valances out of an extra curtain. I went to a tailor and she wanted $90! That is more than the 5 curtains cost! I’m looking around for someone. Maybe a co-worker will take it on…

Swampy, glad to hear your so -erm - relaxed.

My hubby called yesterday and asked me would I have a big ol’ Valentine’s kiss for him when he got home. I stopped and bought him a giant Hershey’s kiss…

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Swampy,

Definitely off, in a heap on the floor.

Tonight I think it’s time to make another apron. And tomorrow may be Indian movie night! I’ve been trying to arrange this forever, since while the SO does watch Indian movies on occasion I have to admit they’re often terribly , distressingly bad. But I still love them!

I am really surprised no one has nominated indy for the TMI award for this week. We’re talking bug eating here people!! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Okay, lesseee…congrats scout. Nice job mika. Yay for fcdad! Hope you’re feeling better today, taters.

Oh, and lissla…

Careful! You don’t want to give bumba another heart attack or make bobbio’s eyes pop right outta his head!

And speaking of popping…where’s rue?

Fried chicken last night was good. We had some peas with it. It’s still cold here this morning but supposed to warm up into the seventies. Phew!

Tupug

Morning, all. And yay for finished robes, healthy FCDads, raises and bonuses.

Last night we had a lock problem. Upon arriving home from work, I unlocked the deadbolt to the house, and the key promptly got stuck. After quite some time doing everything we could (and then cleaning up the spilled WD-40), our Hardware and Home Improvement Specialist (my roommate’s brother) announced that key was not coming out. Rather than leave a means of ingress to the house for anyone with a little free time and a lot more determination than us, we just broke the key off in the lock and vowed to call a locksmith. Ah, the joys of home ownership.

Then we sat on the couch and watched Batman Begins, 'cause, you know, it’s a good Valentine’s movie.

I don’t think it would be my eyes that are popping…

Every year at Christmas I yell at my Dad because he sends me a check. I appreciate the thought, and it’s not like he can’t afford to send some green my way (not eating cat food from his SSN checks, etc) but it’s just the idea that I’m in my 40s, and am a little embarassed about getting money from Dad.

He’ll be here sometime today, by the way. He retired last year (he’s 70), and has run out of things to fix in his house. So by the time he leave on Monday, we will have a new garbage disposal with all the pipes under the kitchen sink replaced, recessed lights in the kitchen ceiling to banish the dark spots, and probably have the new door for the side entrance to the garage planned for completion in the spring. Mind you, these are all things I can do myself, but if’n I don’t save a few things for him to do, he’ll be insulted.

Sorry I missed yesterday, but half of our company is out with various sicknesses. I have been staying healthy, but honestly, in an environment like this, it’s only a matter of time before I get one of the things going around. The upside in all of this is that Roundboy was out yesterday, and Mandy the Martian is out today, so on Day 2 of Inane Background Conversations Free-Zone. I tell ya. it’s like a vacation.

Okay, now to continue catching up on the MMP.

Yeeehaa what a morning so far! First, an employee shows up to work visibly (and smellily [it’s a word!]) impaired. So, off we go for a soberiety (sobriety?) test. Needless to say, he is about to be an ex-employee. Then, somebody I had finally found a job for failed his drug test! GRRRRR… Random drug tests for six months prior, clean every time… the night before he goes for his pre-employment physical/screening he decides to indulge in a pot fest. Le sigh… Oh, and get this, he has the nerve to ask when I can find him another job. GRRRRRRRR… Um… can you say case closed, don’t bother me again? See, this ain’t the first time… GRRRRRR…

We now return you to your regularly scheduled MMP.

Dammit. One of my coworkers gave me a cold. I’d made it through the winter so far without a single cold and someone had to be so generous as to share their cold germs. Yuck. :frowning:

Aww, why not? Stuffing SOs into sacks is almost as much fun as sewing! :stuck_out_tongue:

Yesterday I was up too late. Penn State was being really weird and saying they didn’t get my GRE score report, so I had to scan one of them in, made a PDF of it, and email that to them. And today I need to have RPI mail a transcript to a Naval internship program thinger, and then do research work, and then do about a basketful of homework that’s due tomorrow. Oh! And part 2 of the Career Fair is tomorrow, so I need to get all spiffed out again, to see if I can maybe get an internship from the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, because they’ll be there. Whew.

Wow Swampy, it sounds like you’ve had quite the day so far. It’s a good thing you came in to work all, um, relaxed like.

FCM, I’m glad the hubby is receiving extra good care. I hope that his recovery is speedy and that he won’t have any more problems.

Mika, nice job on the robe. I don’t sew. I loathe sewing. I suck at sewing. This is odd considering my mother and her father ran a tailoring shop. They sewed exquisite suits and stuff. You’d think I’d have inherited the sewing gene, but I didn’t.

I’m feeling almost back to normal. Hopefully there won’t be twenty trips to the bathroom today. I have meetings to attend and this wouldn’t look too good.

It’s COOOOOOOOOOOOOLD out there baby! Temps are dropping into the teens, although the snow threat appears minimal. Chance of flurries tonight and tomorrow, but that’s about it.

Good God, I can’t remember what I’ve posted in here. What am I getting congratulations for?

I had one of those pillows as a kid (it was green and corduroy) and I always called it a “tumfy”. I don’t know why…that’s just what my mom called it, so there you go.

Mika, very nice. I’m glad everyone is doing well, and taxi, stop being sick.
Yesterday was fabulous until I tried to sleep. We had dinner, which was a series of Food Religious Experiences. We both kept breaking off conversation to close our eyes and chew. I had french onion soup, filet mignon with a stuffing of roasted almonds and foie gras, and a complicated cherry chocolate kirsch cake thing. Mr. Lissar had escargot, veal with chanterelles and shittake mushrooms in marsala, and chocolate mouse.

I am going to live the rest of my life in memory of that filet. I’ve never had foie gras before.

Then we came home, phoned our best friends for a bit, opened the icewine, and settled down to watch the first two episodes of Lost, which is good. Unfortunately we were doing it after midnight, and by the time we finished and went to bed I was so tense I didn’t fall asleep until about 7. I’m tired.

It was a great evening, though. I just think we shouldn’t have watched the show. Tense/scary movies get me the opposite of relaxed.

Heh! Taters I talked with ACBG a bit ago. I told him that if last night hadn’t been so great, I’d be on the roof with a shotgun right about now.

On the up side, I actually had a productive conference call! I didn’t know those could be productive. The visibly, smellily impaired employee was given the option of unpaid leave for up to thirty days provided treatment is sought and proof of treatment is presented. He opted to do so. I probably should have (and could have) fired his bohunkus but I’m nice dammit! Of course he will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing quite frequently upon his return for quite a while. Note, everybody, yours truly included, is subject to random drug testing, but, when a problem is documented, it may be more frequently done. Matter of fact, I had to go two weeks ago cause my name was chosen in the how ever often it’s done random selection of who gets to go get tested. I won an all expenses paid trip across the road to Occupational Health Services where I peed in a cup, got to watch 'em pour pee into a big plastic vial and seal it up, then I got to initial the little red tape on top of the vial to certify that it was indeed my very own personal pee. Know what though? That wasn’t the weirdest thing I did that day.

Pothead is very upset right now. See, since I know he failed his drug test, I am obligated to tell his probation officer. No doubt Mr. P.O. will be requesting the results from good old Occupational Health Services. Probation violation charges shall surely ensue.

Ya know, no matter how weird, aggravating, frustrating or just plain ol’ oogie my job can be, it beats the heck out of handling other people’s pee for a living IMO.

I just went in on a pool of 40 for the Power Ball - it’s up to 300 Mmmmillyun! Dollars. If we’re the only winner(s), that works out to $7.5 mil before taxes. Everyone cross your fingerses!
on a M&P note - I have a headache already and it’s not even noon. I’m plodding thru a reconciliation report that goes back to Nov’04 - even tho the client was aware they had only 6 months to report dicrepancies. OY.

Oh, the conference call had nothing to do with visibly and smellily impaired employee. I should have separated those two thoughts. The call was actually about potentially good stuff. Just thought I’d clear that up.

So, I asked to leave early on Friday so I could have a locksmith come attend to my front door, and I got crap for it!!! My supervisor gave this heavy sigh and said “Well, I suppose we can call Mimi (Formerly Retired Reception Fill-In) and see if she can come in.” It’s three hours, people! I want to leave at 2:00. I can’t wait to see the faces when I put in for my time off for the trip to Europe I’m supposed to take this summer. If they can’t live without a receptionist, they should damn well hire one.

Phew. Okay, I feel better now.

It really isn’t fair of them to keep asking you to do that job - it isn’t what they hired you for. Maybe you should look elsewhere? I know that’s a hassle, but if they think they can get away with taking advantagfe of you this way, who knows what crap they’ll pull in the future
