MMP: Baby It's COLD Outside!

Yay for poor college student parent checks! I sorta kinda remember those.

Puggy we have Eckerd’s and Walgreens on opposite corners here.

Taters glad you’re feeling better.

I wanna go home. I got quality hot tub time that needs doin’!

I wanna go home, too. No hot tub time, but time at home trumps time at the office, don’t you think?

My whirlpool tub has dust in the bottom–that’s how long it’s been since I’ve had a soak.

But, at least my bodily fluids are staying put. Sorry you’re feeling icky, Tates.

Oh!

Switching gears–to whom does this NOT sound absolutely to-die-for yummy? I’ll get the magazine and type up the recipe if anyone’s interested. (Or get a February Southern Living; it’s in there) … but it’s …

Baked Banana French Toast

Oh man! Generally, this calls for lining the bottom of a baking dish with raisin bread, then placing bananas sliced lengthwise atop. Cover with top-raisin bread slices. Then mix milk, eggs and cream cheese–cream cheese I say!–and pour over it. Let it set overnight. Bake the next morning and then eat, topped with powdered sugar.

Doesn’t that sound FABULOUS? Why do I have to be on a diet??

It sounds fabulous to me, too. But there’s no WAY I’d ever make it because I’d eat way too much. It’s one of those things I’ll have to enjoy vicariously. (like most food talk in this thread, to be honest)

Ellen! Step AWAY from the magazine! You’ll thank me later. That recipe could be made much simpler by simply pasting the cream cheese to my buttocks! There’s a good girl. Here’s some celery.

Taters, you’re brave for working today after feeling so bad yesterday.
Driving Husband and Dishwashing Husband came and took us out for lunch spontaneously. Isn’t that exciting? They pointed out that I was three times as lucky, for having three husbands escort me out on Valentine’s. And we’re going out for dinner in a few hours.

I’ve got to go look for grownup clothes in my closet. I don’t think I have any. I have gothgirl, funky bookstore clerk, and formalwear. No nice-dinner clothes.

Uh, I’m not brave; just incredibly stupid with an overly acute sense of duty to getting my job done. This is not really a good thing. Thanks, though.

Wear a black and red push up bustierre with fishnet stockings and lacy boy shorts. That’s what the husband wants to see you in; forget about the diners at the restaurant.

According to Driving and Dishwashing Husbands, as soon as girls are alone together they have bra and panty tickle fights. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that, although the scene at Other Quasi-Daughter’s bachelorette where we were all watching movies sprawled out, most of us with our shirts off, and exchanging oil massages came close.

I am going to find out if there’s anything he particularly wants me to wear- the corsety top I got for the wedding, maybe? It has to be expandable. I plan on eating at least three courses plus wine.

Have we talked about eating bugs yet? My goofy kid went to the Mall of America up in Minneapolis, MN, this weekend and brought back “bug candy.” I had Crunchy Mexian Spice Larva. They where about a dozen fried meal worms with a slightly spicy coating. Not worth the $2.99 he paid for them if you ask me. I have a whole tub of fresh squirming meal worms in my fridge right now that I only paid around $4.00 for! I showed them to him after we tasted his treat. He is now very grossed out.

What is cool is this sucker he bought that has a small scorpion imbedded in it. I don’t plan on eating that, but it is so gross looking I laughed out loud. My co-worker has a youngish son who’s birthday is Thursday, so I’m going to re-gift the sucker to him. She’s a super-mom, this could be fun.

Well, sometimes that overly acute sense of duty is a good thing. Take me, for example - my surprise valentine’s present came from my boss today. I exceeded expecations in the last year, and got a nice raise + bonus! Yay! The bonus will be used to pay for my Italy trip, with plenty left over for some celebratory shopping this weekend with my mom! And I thought I wasn’t going to have a good valentine’s.

Susan

Wow! Congratulations! That must be a hell of a bonus. I received a monetary performance award, but due to budget constraints it wasn’t a huge amount of money. But hey, every little bit helps. I was happy to get it. I’m being presented with another award later this month. I know what I do was appreciated by my old boss, but he left in December. I now have a new boss, and I’m not sure he understands everything I do.

He’s wearing his robe!

And it fits! Which I was really worried about, as I couldn’t measure him as it was supposed to be a robe (“Uh, honey, why are you measuring me?” “No reason! Just hold still” )

I canNOT believe I made a robe and it fits him AND he’s wearing it!

does the super-duper happy dance of joy

WOOHOO!

Oh, and

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!*

*the approximate color of the robe

Congratulations, susan. Excellent way to celebrate the day!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! everyone! Haven’t been paying close attention to what our sizing trend has been doing, so I went for medium.

Nothing very valentine-y for me today, but that’s OK. Work was kind of odd. Seems like I was busy all day, but didn’t really get anything done. That kind of day drives me nuts.

Hope Taters continues to feel better! Oh, and another HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! for Mr. Lissar. Which outfit did you finally select, Lissla?

We have CVS and Walgreens generally located as close to each other as possible. Drives me nuts. I go to grocery store pharmacies instead. There are a couple of items I can only get at the local CVS, but otherwise, I avoid all of the chains like the plague.

I must say that Baked Banana French Toast does sound yummy…and dangerous. Hmmm…maybe something to take to a brunch sometime.

On preview, I see we have a report on the robe…but no picture? How can there be no picture?

GT

Up above, that was meant to be “…supposed to be a surprise.”

And here’s pics:

Robe, on floor.

Robe, on my boy. (He wouldn’t let me post his face.)

Very nice work, Mika! (And such a prompt response!) Pretty shade of blue.

Watching pieces of last night’s Olympic coverage. Little bit of figure skating, little bit of snowboarding, little bit of speed skating. I’ve been fast-forwarding through most of it because the commentary and fluff is driving me nutss. I’m guessing that I’m watching maybe 45 minutes of the coverage. Wish they’d just tell me what time the stuff I’m interested is going to be on.

At least I can sort through paper and file stuff while I’m watching.

**Happy VD one and all!! **

I have to say, if you’re ever in Baltimore and need to be hospitalized, go to Good Samaritan. It is, by far, the BEST hospital experience I’ve ever had! The facilities are wonderful. The staff includes some of the most professional, caring, amiable people anywhere. Honestly, of his five surgical experiences and my three, this is absolutely the most impressive.

He’s spending one more night there, because the pain has been pretty intense all day. But they got him out of bed and he went thru Occupational Therapy (showing he can sit down then get up from a toilet, get into and out of a bathtub, and get into and out of a car without assistance) and Physical Therapy (not sure what that was - I didn’t accompany him on that part). He was allowed to eat real food. He got a sponge bath. He was visited by both of his surgeons, a pain management team, a volunteer, two members of the catering staff, and several others - I lost track. I plan to get there pretty early tomorrow to learn how to change his dressing, then take him home.

And I’m thinking the trek to FL won’t happen after all. While he should be doing pretty good by this weekend, he still won’t be able to change his own dressing, and he’s going to be hard pressed to deal with walking the dog. He’s way too stubborn to allow me to have a friend come stay with him, so I’ll probably wait till the kid’s spring break to go down there.

I’m at Mom’s again, I had a nice dinner, including a glass of wine, and I expect I’ll be crashed out in an hour or so. Too much excitement in these last two days. I just want to go home. <sigh>

FCM, I’m glad he’s being so well cared for. In such a stressful situation, that’s got to count for something. Sleep well.

FCM, best of luck…glad he’s being taken good care of. We don’t want one of the Cool Kids’ spouses being treated badly!

I also just tonight made a slipcover for my husband - see the one on the left. (The link is so everyone is on the same page and no one thinks I am stuffing my boyfriend into a sack or anything.) Why oh why didn’t anyone tell me sewing could be SO MUCH FUN??

You had me confused there for a second, Mika; husband, SO, etc. Hadn’t heard about those things being called husbands in a long time.

Glad you’re home early, FCM and that FCD is in good hands. Makes sense to put off the trip to Florida; gotta make sure everyone’s really on their way to being healthy first! I’ll keep the good thoughts coming your way.

I’m feeling like I need to be in bed early too…I’ve got lots of lovely meetings tomorrow morning…
