Good plan, regardless of one’s age or physical condition. Do a little, take a break, do a little, take a break - and by break, I mean real break, inside after shedding jacket and gloves, not 2 minutes of leaning on the shovel. Don’t make me scold you!!!
Apparently the Hyundai dealer is closed or undermanned this morning. So I left a message with the phone-answerer and I’ll call back in a few days if I don’t hear from them. It’s not a huge deal - just an anti-theft softwear update. Since my car spends most of its time in the garage, I’m not too worried.
flyboy - I can’t remember the last time I watched the news. I just can’t. I hate feeling uninformed, but the news doesn’t inform - it spins and it seems to be more opinion than fact. Some day, maybe, I’ll trust network news again.
Y’all be takin’ care of yourselves up there. Yikes. Coming up on 11 months from relocating to sunnier shores but did do a trip to Chicago in December and it reminded me why I took the move.
26 here with a wind chill of 15. Working from home today. Cats are happy. Snow total at phl is 7.3, at rittenhouse square 9.
Enough snow to go sledding down the art museum stairs. The downside is people left a lot of trash all over the stairs. Mostly various plastic lids with a bit flat cardboard box. There was a flattened plastic kiddie pool. It will be a hot spot as people start moving around.
The sun has broken through. It is very bright and sparkly.
Good morning! It’s 12ºF and sunny here. Our driveway is clear, but has a thin sheet of ice on it from the freezing rain. I’m hoping that the sun will dry it out. Most of the weekend involved staying warm and reading.
We continued Squeaky’s honorary GenX indoctrination by rounding out the View Askewniverce original pentalogy by showing him Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. We’re looking for other suggestions to further bring him into the GenX fold. The cynicism is already strong with this one, but could be stronger.
Dinner last night was Easy Beef Chili from my ATK Instant Pot cookbook. No false advertising - it is easy, but it could use more kick. I almost used one of the cans of chilies that I bought last week, but if I did that, they would be gone.
FCM - Asking the AI chatbot for a better deal really works with Sirius? We’ve always had to do the kabuki of threatening to leave and getting transferred to retention, which nets us the 40% off. The chatbot sound easier and less frustrating.
For a minute there, I thought you were going to describe your coping mechanisms.
I’m glad Lucy is OK and hope her humans aren’t too sore.
Happy anniversary taters!
I watch the local in the morning, but read the national just to avoid having to listen to a certain voice.
It was 23 ferrets when I walked Nelson this morning. My furnace isn’t really keeping up with the cold outside (set on 80F, it’s about 65F inside), so I’m wearing long john pants under my flannel PJ bottoms ans an extra sweatshirt over the usual tee / sweatshirt combo (I’m cold natured). It is supposed to get up to 40F this afternoon though.
Yeah - the last few times I’ve done it entirely via chat, no muss no fuss no need to threaten to leave. Just ask for a better deal. The first couple of times (some years back) I called and got a call center in India(?) and I could barely understand the accent. Chat is so much easier. At least once, it was a chat with an actual person, but the bot is even simpler. Try asking “Can you do better?” a few times. I wish I had.
FCD is done in the shop. I’m trying to figure out the best way to make covers for the nav light name boards. Life is a thrill a minute here.
Good Moanday morning all. Slept in until 8am today under my nice heavy comforter and awoke to find snow on the ground. Albeit a very modest amount, barely a dusting, but for N. Ali-bama it’s a weather crisis. Temperature is 17F and only getting to 27F today and supposed to get down to 10F tonight. Might head outdoors as soon as the roads clear off from the dusting, but certainly am not in any hurry. It’s due to be back up to 40F tomorrow and due to stay that way for the next week or so, guess February will start cold and hopefully end with milder weather.
Shoe, the high in Abu Dhabi (where I lived for 4 years) is going to be 74F, which I assure you the natives will find to be intolerably cold…for them. Different strokes…
Of course, you would run the risk of them running you over…
boo fae, thanks for the clarification .
Hippie, happy plumbing day.
FCM, the plowman is quite efficient and well worth his pay. And I can understand FCD’s wanting to get out and drive around, I have it too, but am resisting it so far…
Coppertone, I think you have even more reason than the snowbound to stay indoors today. Have you made the local news yet?
Yank, moving friends is an obligation, a distraction, and a PITA…often all at the same time. And a nosy family gathering can be a pain–glad you resisted well. And good on ya for taking Lucy to the Vet despite all the obstacles in your way.
As for the walks to school, in High School there were hills I had to cross both coming and going so I guess uphill both ways applies. And treks through snow were part of usual winter life in Northeast Ohio.
Knots, that only applies if your riding a bus…( Sic transit gloria mundi). Seriously, feel better soon.
JtC, same here, most every school in the region is closed, the gym is operating 9am-5pm and I don’t know what if any restaurants are open…but there is a slight glimmer of brightness–the library says it will open at 11am, so reading is still important to many.
flyboy, FCM, I seldom watch the local news, have CNN on sometimes while exercising but usually only for the little scrollers along the bottom of the screen.
rocky, sledding is something I haven’t done in many, many years…not enough snow to do it now either, but one of these days…and slobs are going to slob, I’m afraid.
red, yeah, Texas is not built for cold weather, just hope you don’t lose power like what happened a few years ago.
Will need to check on my Sirius XM status, might need to use the AI Chatbox option as I don’t care to talk to people about things like that.
And just looked out my front door and the roads are clear, so might do a FCD type trip and maybe get my shopping done (after all it is less than 3 miles…how hard could it be? Take care all and talk to ya later.
Same here. Only every morning it’s like, ‘Someone was stabbed in Belltown, someone was shot in wherever, a bunch of people are homeless after their apartment building caught fire, a person is in critical condition after a hit-and-run…’ It seems like the same stories with different people every morning.
ETA: I applied for a Videographer job this morning.
Not really - I have a bunch of other things on my to-do list that I don’t really feel inspired to do today. I went to the supermarket and then had something nice for lunch. Then minutes had to be tackled in the end. They’re done and sent off now, so I can procrastinate about all the other things I Don Twanna!
Guess that means you have to go and shovel. Be careful of your back though!
SuntanLotion, sounds scary. Hope you can just shelter in place for a bit.
Continued from last week’s MMP:
Yes, I’ll see if Canadian Tire can do a fix. I won’t be able to tell which is the ground wire for the 3-prong plug. Plus, don’t want to be kneeling on the cold, cold ice while I try to figure it out.
Will ask them to check tire pressure as well.
Temp has got up to -16 C this morning, but strong wind blowing, so it’s cold out.
I’m back at work today. Don’t mind declaring a personal WFH day when it’s -30, but doing it when temp is in the mere negative teens sounds wimpy.
Isn’t the rainbow the Bifrost bridge, leading from Earth to Valhalla? I’d say the folks over the rainbow are doing more bashing (with swords, maces, &c) than basking.
My brother told me about the day on Guam when the temp dropped to around 70F. Said he’d never been so happy to have a heater in his car.
“Rumble, rumble, rumble. Mutiny, mutiny, mutiny.”
Snowplough came through around 0830 – the first time since yesterday morning. Did the plough drivers get the afternoon off because of the snow? Currently 19 Ferrets (-7 Centipedes), though it’s supposed to get up to 27 (-3) this afternoon.
I haven’t had to wade through the snow uphill both ways since ninth grade, though the ravine wasn’t very wide or deep. No snow involved the time we were under way and I had to take a message board to the goat locker – uphill both ways.
The avocado toast I’d had for breakfast wasn’t enough, so I grabbed a Chomps Jalapeño Beef Stick. If you don’t know, they have a slogan inside the wrapper. This one said, ‘Goodbye setback. Hellooo comeback.’ That was fun, considering that I haven’t been a videographer since 2007 and I’ve just applied for a videographer position.
