Well, if I don’t get a chance to check in before the weekend is over, I wanted to wish everyone a safe and happy New Year.
May the new year bring, happiness, health and peace to all of you.

Muffaletta and po-boys are both sammichs, but the restaurant we were at had a ‘penne pasta and muffaletta’ dish that I ordered. It had black olives, penne pasta, feta cheese, and what ibelieve was shredded cabbage, plus some herbs and spices. I generally like black olives, but apparently not so much in things.
Yes, there definately is something weird going on, we’re haveing poke chops tonight also.
Take care everybody.
I ended up making swiss-mushroom burgers on the grill. Good stuff.
I got the tree down easily, and vacuumed up a ton of needles and tinsel. My poor dog couldn’t find a place out of the way. He hates the vacuum cleaner.
I don’t have any chores left to do! Amazing.
Today is kitty day. My sweetie is still asleep, but I’m so used to being up and about, I’ve showered, dressed, and brought up all the kitty stuff from the basement. The litter box is full of fresh litter, the scratchy thing is in its corner of the dining room, and the food dish is clean and waiting for kitty kibble.
We’re going to leave in an hour or so and go to Baltimore for breakfast near the marina where FCD used to live. They we’ve got to get some kitty kibble - the breeder told us the brands she buys - and some more litter - we only had one pan’s worth left. We get to pick up our new addition around noon. With luck, I’ll have pics to post tonight. Unless she’s camera shy.
It’ll be interesting to see how she and Bernie hit it off. It’s probably a good thing that I’m off for the week - I can referee if needed.
Happy last day of 2005! Or Happy 2006 if you’re in a different time zone or reading this some time later!
Oh yeah - and if no one else wants to, I’ll do the next MMP, since I’m off work and all.
I hereby proclaim FCM to be the hostess with the mostest for next week’s MMP. Like anybody’s gonna object.
I was gonna do grilled poke chops for dinner tomorrow, but now it’s gonna be ribs cause I found some of those big country style ribs in my freezer last night after company left. I’s gonna parboil ‘em then finish ‘em up on the grill with some bbq sauce plus extra sauce for soppin’ when they get et. It’s dreary here today. Not rainy, just dreary. And warm. Weirdly warm. I get worried when it’s weirdly warm like this. It’s tornado producin’ weirdly warm.
Oh well, I gotta get myself all cleaned up and go to the sto’. I need some shrimps for tonight. Since I’m just havin’ a couple people over, I figured that’d be a nice treat. Plus I gotta get some munchie stuff to nibble on tonight and tomorrow. A friend is bringin’ his wunnerful and spicy bloody mary mix tomorrow. It’s so yummy I can drink it by itself but I know I won’t.
Good morning! We just finished up breakfast and Tom is hooking up the DVD and sound system that we disassembled when we painted that wall. I want to watch my Christmas presents, the LotR trilogy.
Yay for FCM doing the MMP next week! I can’t wait to see your kitty pics.
Tonight we’re having Chicken Fried Chicken Strips and mashed taters (N.O.T.!) and little baby peas from a can.
I don’t have anything pressing to do, so I’ll probably hang out in my jammies all day. We don’t go out on NYE - too many crazy drunks out and about. And there’s a Twilight Zone Marathon! AND a Law and Order: SUV marathon.
I have discovered the secret to Getting A Little Work Done on the Computer with a Baby Cherry in the House. You know that video that’s been going around the internet–of the house rigged out with a million lights, jamming to Christmas music by the Trans Siberian Orchestra? Well, Baby Cherry loves it! He loves to poke the buttons on the laptop, too, which make it start and stop.
OK who is the scoundrel who posted the link to Cuteness Overload? Huh, Huh?? I am now addcited and am revealed not as a curmugeon but someone who loves cuteness! Lordy, it’s funny …and CUTE!
New Year’s Eve for us will probably come at about 10 pm! I have steaks for dinner; that’s our big plan. (So much I sacrifice for Carnivore Husband. Unlike Lissa, though, this is the only husband I have. Unless you count the ex- one. Hm) So I eat the meat along with him. Doesn’t mean I have to give up my subscription to Vegetarian Times!
Speaking of meat, our Christmas present to each other, basically, was on sale at Lowe’s so we went ahead and got it: A Big Old Honkin’ Gas Grill. JennAire. I think it will do 45 or 50 hamburgers at once. And it has a spit. It will take up half the deck, I’m sure. But it’s a JennAire! Whee! Merry Carniverous Christmas!
More food: we were speaking of Zatarain’s notlong ago, were we not? I made the gumbo, and added sausage, shrimp, a can of tomatoes and extra rice. We ate it with cornbread. Hoo WEE. That’s good eating. (Husband hails from Luzeeanna…I like to make him happy.)
I’m up and have a load of laundry going. I have a couple more loads to do after this load and I still have to go to the store to buy some kind of munchies or appetizers to bring to our friends NYE party.
My daughter went and saw King Kong last night. She went with several of her friends. A couple of her friends came over during the day and hung out all day here. They went home for a little bit, came back over around 7:30 and I drove the daughter and those friends to the theater. There, they met a couple of other friends. They all seemed to have a good time and the daughter told me she enjoyed the movie.
I’m probably gonna make fetticine alfredo and chicken breasts for dinner tonight. It’ll have to be an early dinner because we need to be at our friends’ house between 6:00 and 7:00 this evening.
I’ve been telling the kids to change the cat’s litter box for the last two days. They ARE changing it today and they’re going to do it right when they get up. Sheesh!
Hail to our MMP hostess for Monday. I’d have to get up way to early to host since I’m here on the left coast and all. Either that, or I’d have to stay up way late.
I need to get some more go juice. Have a happy and safe New Year all.
We got a new remote for Christmas! This one is for TIVO. I am now officially overwhelmed.
Not only did I serve as the remote control as a child, I was also the TV Guide. It was easy since there was only one channel – the NBC affiliate.
Speaking of Taters, did any of you ever put an Irish potato or a new potato on the end of rabbit ears for better reception?
Did you ever put rabbit ears on top of a toaster oven in the dorm to fool the house mother into thinking you had a TV and not contraband?
Wow, my uses are quite varied innovative, aren’t they?
Never did either of the above.
Although, I remember doing the tin foil thing with the rabbit ears when I first moved out.
Crap! That should be “…quite varied and innovative…”
Apparently, I haven’t had enough coffee today. Actually, in looking at some of my previous posts, I’ve noticed many misspellings, wrong forms of words, i.,e “to” for “too”, etc. How do I miss this on preview?!
We’re home with new kitty. She immediately ran under our bed, and I believe she’s still there, so no pics yet. FCD went to watch TV in the bedroom, hoping she’ll venture forth for skritches. Bernie hasn’t noticed there’s a new critter in the house, but then we both smell like kitties anyway, so that’s not a big surprise. The cat yelled at us most of the drive home - almost 2 hours of it! Definitely a vocal critter. She better not try that trick at 2AM, I’m tellin’ ya!
I just started a pot of bean soup, but instead of ham, I’m going to throw in a mess o’leftover ribs. As soon as I post this, I’m going to do a load or two of laundry - those new noises should really thrill Miss Kitty (no, that’s not her name. We’ll see what her name becomes.) And that’ll be our NYE - bean soup and laundry, and a timid kitty.
Hi all. I’m starting the new year sick. Whee. Somehow I have to drag myself in to work tonight, tomorrow and Monday, too, and I just want to sleep.
Aw, Taters, don’t sweat the typos - we still loves ya! Besides, aren’t misspelings a Rue tradition??
For the record - bean soup with leftover ribs smells wonderful! It’ll still be a bit before it’s done, but I expect it to be a great dinner! MMMMMMMMM
Since you don’t have pics yet, can you describe what baby kat looks like?
She’s far from a baby - but she’s a ruddy Abyssinian - sorta like this - she has a lion-like face and beautiful gold eyes. And nearly 3 hours later, she’s still hiding under the bed.
What a wuss!
Ooh, how pretty FCM!
When we brought our kitty home fourteen years ago, he was an instant love. He would lie right between my husband and I on the couch, just purring away. He’s still a big love, but since moving to this house, he refuses to come downstairs on his own. So, I or one of the kids will bring him down for loves and skritches. Otherwise, he hangs out upstairs in the bonus room or one of our rooms and comes running whenever one of us goes upstairs.
We’ve eaten an early dinner and in about an hour and a half, we’ll head to our friends’ house for their NYE party. We’ll stop at Safeway on the way and pick up some munchies. We already have the booze; a fifth of Grey Goose vodka and a pint of Jagermeister.
Happy New Year all you cool kids in the MMP!
I have black-eyed peas and collards cooking. My house smells wunnerful! A couple of friends will be here around eightish and we’ll nosh, talk, they’ll watch me cook and we’ll toast the New Year at midnight. It’s just party central at the swampcave.
FCM I coulda told ya leftover ribs would be good in soup. What’s not to be good after all?
Actually, swampy, ribs aren’t all that great in bean soup. It was pretty bland. Maybe it’ll be better tomorrow, but fresh out of the pot, it’s kinda meh.
And it’s now been about 5 hours and the kitty is *still * under the bed. What a wuss!!
