MMP - Peep hunts and other interesting events

So my local newspaper went all out this year and had both a Peep creativity contest and a virtual Easter egg hunt which proved quite popular. Not sure how long all of these will be online for free (30 days, I think), but here are some of the Peep results and the additional bonus Peep pictures.
The egg hunt featured some pretty obscure clues, even if you’ve lived here over 20 years. Now that I know the answers, most of them seem pretty obvious. Althought I would never have guessed the Salmon P. Chase one or the creek one. Can’t find a picture of the columnist - he was pictured in bunny ears with each riddle.

Gotta say I was impressed by the lengths people went to in responding to both contests. Wouldn’t have thought anyone would go to the effort of creating such elaborate Peep tableaux. Although I’m not stunned that there were OSU-themed aspects to each contest. An OSU-Michigan Peepbowl? Including coaches and refs and cheerleaders? Only the attention to detail was surprising. Personally, I could relate quite well to the tax-filer Peep. As for the geekiest contestants: my award goes to the guys who sent in latitude and longitude with their egg-location answers. Hee.

Me, I have interesting friends. In our personal egg hunt, the kids participating were all either Hindu or Jewish. And of course, there had to be several hunts. Cuz one hunt is never enough. There was even one where the kids hid eggs for the grown-ups. I predict that these kids will all be geocachers when they get older.

Oh…and it says Peep hunt in the title cuz one of the prizes in our hunt was, you guessed it, a package of Peeps. I’m saving mine for next year’s Peep contest.

Cool OP gt! Now that’s really gettin’ into the whole weirdness around Easter stuff. Least I now know what peeps are good for.

Nuttin’ much to say here, cause I kinda said it all yesterday. Church was good, lunch was good, I went to bed early. The end.

Tonight I’m hosting my church men’s group. There’ll probably be about a dozen guys there. Everybody brings a steak or other carnivorous craving of choice and their own adult or non-adult beverages. I’m providing salad, my famous company smashed taters (N.O.T.), rolls and grilled sausages cause we always have to have grilled sausages and hot mustard to munch on while waiting for steaks to get done. Sometimes we accomplish stuff, but most times it’s just a general hang out time. It’s always fun.

Cute pictures!

I’m beat. Didn’t sleep well all weekend, for various reasons, and determined to go off to McDonald’s this morning for something to eat. Raining, though. I better go check and see if it’s stopped yet.

I’ll be useless until I know for sure if I have that job. I’ve been worrying that I said something which sealed my fate about not getting though, which is partly why I didn’t sleep well. I just want to make this move work and getting a job ultra-quick would serve that end.

Isn’t that a little counterproductive? Why offer up ann egg hunt and them threaten the contestants with a package of peeps?

Because, you know, peeps are nasty.

This past week was an interesting convergence of holidays. Besides Easter we also had Passover and Songkran. Orthodox Easter is apparently this coming week. Songkran is the Thai lunar new year which is tied to the birth of the Buddha. They celebrate by tossing water at everyone. And drinking. And driving up country to see their families, usually on motorbikes. There were almost 500 deaths this past Songkran weekend. Thailand is between 1/4 and 1/5 the size of the USA. Wonder if we had 2000-2500 traffic deaths this weekend?

In the spirit of Songkran we took the Shibbletts down to the beach and let them splash water at each other. Then on the way back I witnessed a collision. The black sports car was messed up, but no one was apparently injured. The guys in the black sports car were acting like total jerks, so it may have been a kharma thing. That would have been very Buddhist.

Good morning, everyone. Here I am, back at work. Oh boy!

It was a hectic weekend, but we got a lot acoomplished. I painted the second room yesterday, except up around the ceiling. Tom is 6’5" and doesn’t need a ladder to reach the top of the wall, so I left that for him. I did the baseboards!

And I did the usual: laundry, dishes, grocery shopping, cooking. We ate fried catfish, corn and sliced maters for dinner. Yum!

Happy Monday, all!

Very nice MMP, gt. You can’t beat peeps for springtime goodness. But wait, what’s this I hear? A voice of dissent?

Blasphemy.

So last night I officially accepted the Navy internship. Sent the documents to some officer in D.C. and everything. Now there really is no turning back. Sure, it’ll be fun. I still have a couple of reservations about it, namely that I don’t currently have a place to live when I get there. Ah well, I’m sure it’ll all work out.

Telperien, good luck getting that job! I know you managed the interview wonderfully.

And now for something completely different:

Mmph. Morning. So very tired. Not only did I stay up too late reading, I stayed up too late reading a book I’d already read. That’s a special kind of stupid, right there.

And that about sums up my weekend.

Yard work! I did yard work! Amazing, that, considering that I, as you know, possess a 19-month-old baby. A sprint-blythely-into-the-street type of youngster. Fortunately, he got a lot of that out of his system and did play happily while yard work! was done. In the back yard, he could race to the four corners of the earth, pretty much. Our home backs up to a green space and he can wander into that.

So that was the preliminaries to the main event of Easter, which pretty much consisted of The Great Revealing of the Baskets, the highlight of which was highlights. My daughter of the Mousey Brown Though Formerly Blonde Hair has been moping about, due to the, you know, mousey browness of her existence. So the Easter Bunny brought her a bottle of Sun In. She now has light brown, sort-of-blonde-if-you-squint-hair. She’s happy. Little Mr. Baby Cherry got the new Baby Einstein video and Boy Wonder received a Lego product and mechanical pencils. It was a good Easter.

Me? I got shoes. Target cover charge $143.

   No, they’re not, and you’re a bad person for saying so!

Good morning everyone! I have a ton of work to do, so I’ll be back later, but I just wanted to check in (and thus subscribe to the thread.)

Mmm, coffee has never tasted so good. Yum!

Also, I posted this at the end of last week’s MMP, but I’m posting it again here: a picture I took that I simply love.

Spring is here.

We took the kids to the Easter Egg hunt, but got there about 10 minutes late, so while we were walking one way across the field, everyone elso was walking the other way. A guy with two kids a little older than ours stopped us, told us we pretty much missed the whole thing (it only takes all the kids about 5 minutes to find all the chocolate eggs - 300 pounds worth). Anyways, his kids offered up their take so my kids wouldn’t go away empty-handed and disappointed.
I love this town.

Wow, I thought I had posted this, but I guess not. Definitely must be Monday.

We had a guy set a new world’s record for eating peeps this weekend in Norfolk. I’d post a link, but all I can find this morning are video clips from the local news channels.

Must find coffee, and something to eat before I come back.

3 hours of sleep, up since 5 AM without benefit of caffeine and I feel like my head will explode off my body if I don’t get some painkikkers in me very soon.

Maybe I’ll go find some Peeps.

Ugh! I’ve got a backache. I think I got it from being on my feet for most of yesterday what with having the family Easter dinner. We didn’t have no peeps. We had lamb and pork and green bean casserole and fresh green beans and smashed taters (N.O.T.) and the famous family cabbage salad. We also consumed adult beverages. It is going to be hard to get through today.

gt, great OP. I do believe the first one with pics.

ellen, I sure hope you got more than ONE pair of shoes at Target!

My bro and I went to see V for Vendetta on Saturday. It was mildly entertaining in a Matrixy kind of way.

We also went to DSW and I got me some new running shoes. I needed them cause I wore out my old ones…again.

Tupug

As I’ve infused my brain with caffeine, I remembered more stuff to say. Yay me.

This weekend, I made mead. Lots of it. Watermelon, blueberry, strawberry, I went nuts. Hopefully, it’ll all be drinkable by Midsummer.

I also went shopping for impractical red shoes. And wouldn’t you know, it seems that DSW is not selling red shoes this year. grumble I bought impractical blue shoes, but I really did have my heart set on red.

And for the TMI alert–I accidentally bought thong underwear this weekend, and by the time I got them home and noticed, it wasn’t worth the time or money to go back to Target and return them. I’ll think of it as having an adventure.

Spats, 'splain the Navy thing to me, because I musta missed it the first time around.

My flight is at 8 tonight, I’ll arrive at Heathrow at 7:30 tomorrow morning. It’s a business trip, but I couldn’t book a flight home till next Monday, so I’m spending the weekend in London. I’ll see Picadilly and a museum or three, (maybe) Soho. I’m really excited. I’ve never been to Europe, and the last business trip I had was 2 years ago, to Atlanta (:rolleyes). Don’t get me wrong - Atlanta is a great city - I lived in Buckhead in the late 90s. Anyways, this soul-draining job/career looks like it’s finally starting to pay off a bit.

Ha! The Target Total included Easter basket stuff, and these shoes and these shoes for me and these for blondie-girl. Boy-o got these which, despite being “skater shoes” looked decent for Easter dress-up.

No, I don’t have a “shoe problem.”

Check these out

Oh. My. God. Those are the shoes I need. Ellen, you are my Fairy Godmother. I’m goin’ to Target at lunch.

Of course it will! I have every confidence in you.

(Hmm, you’re going to be how far away from me again?)

You know I luv ya and everything, but Peeps are vile. They are, however, rather fun if you let them get stale.

Well, I kind of said something at the interview that might have hurt my chances. So I’ve been stewing about it all weekend, like an idiot. Especially since I haven’t heard a thing from any other company yet.
