Thanks to everyone for the good vibes. Number Two Pug is doing very well this morning. As Mr. Anachi always says…better living through chemistry. Apparently the drugs are working.
Oh, and we are raining this morning. This is a good thing in terms of escalating brush fires. Yesterday one broke out right near I-4 and Sea World.
ellen, I remember those days well. Just hang in there, soon she will be your best friend again. I used to threaten mine with shipment to SC to live with the Klingon. Bad of me, I know, but sometimes ya gotta break out the big guns.
dolores, congratulations. Mo money is always a good thing.
I propose we update the tired “hi opal” bullet point to “hi scout.” Who’s with me?
I’m up rosie. Have been since 4:45 when Cuervo, bless his soon-to-be-sleeping-in-the-garage soul, decided it was play time.
I’m jealous I can’t be at the big gathering, but FCM, welbys and Taters - have a great time.
Taters, I’m disguised as a potted palm in the lobby - wave as you walk by.
rigs, feel better yet? Friday is a fer sure thing from my end. Izod? Sure, and I’ll get the Top Gun Ray-Ban’s out of the closet too…
I’m a good employee it seems. I’ve been tossing Sox tickets that have been given to me by vendors and contractors to the bosses upstairs (technically across the street, but in a metaphorical sense - upstairs). At last night’s board meeting, I got thanked all over the place, it was almost embarassing. Almost.
Then my favorite Assistant Principal pulls me over to tell me that her & I have been annointed to review, revise and implement a bus conduct policy for the district. Right now, there is no standard that says if you do “X” on the bus, your punishment is “Y”. It’s pretty much on a school-by-school basis, and depends frankly on if the dean or AP is in a good mood or not that day.
That’s frustrating to the drivers and ends up with them reluctant to document any misbehavior because “no one does anything anyway…”.
Of course, you all might know by now, my motto is: “It’s not technically plagiarism, it’s more like cutting and pasting the parts I like”.
Her and I have been looking into other district’s and school policies as far as this goes, we know what and how we want to go about it, so it really is going to be pretty straightforward. Nonetheless, we agreed that the process must start with lunch one day next week, and all of our regular meetings should also be food-based.
It can’t be all work and no play, can it?
That’s pretty impressive. Let me see … I have a Celtic short sword, a lightsaber, a baseball bat, and a quarterstaff. Roomie has a Claymore. People should try to invade our place, either.
I woke up at 4:15 to find one cat sleeping on my head, one on my feet, and one stretched out against my belly. It was so hot. Chunk has an abnormally high body temperature, even for a cat. He hangs out on your legs for ten minutes, and you start sweating.
Congrats, Rebo! Aaaaand … I’m glad #2 Pug is feeling better, and Rosie and Rigs, and that’s all I remember.
So, I’ve solved the Birthday Party dilemma. I’m going to hit the Dopefest for a couple hours, then drive the rest of the way down to Maryland and spend the night. Hopefully, my parents have a couch in the new house by now. Doesn’t mean I’m not still annoyed, though. Grr.
Oh, my mother sent the daggers with all manner of warnings and dire predictions. #1 son is fairly sensible and shows no moronic tendencies (yet). The daggers are kept in the living room, on display.
Actually, everything is kept in the living room right now, since the kitchen is full of empty soon-to-be-demolished cabinetry, and the dining room awaits the plasterers on Friday. My house looks like a warehouse cum slum. Come on over! Stand in a corner! Have a microwaved meal on me!
Martha Stewart would turn legume green with envy, I tells ya.
Throat is not as bothersome today–or I’m not slowing down for it. Not sure which and dont’ care–I have too much to do!
Off to bake a cake for #2 son–HE IS 8 TODAY!!! He is also cute as a button and grew a foot last noc–his jeans this morning are floods!
Hope the DC DopeFest is good. Pictures, please.
MBG writing rules and policy… sounds like fun to me!
My boss told me yesterday that she really appreciates all the stuff I do in this area and how well I do at keeping everybody and everything on track. It just feels good to hear it sometimes.
Puggy glad the lil’ pug is feelin’ better. I was wondering if any of those brush fires were anywhere around you.
Yay for Taters arriving all safe and sound.
I ended up going home yesterday, medicating myself and sleeping for two and a half hours. Then I went to my meeting last night. When I got home I went to bed and slept all night. The pot roast did not get eaten, so it becomes dinner tonight.
Oh and we had a power outage at work this morning! It happened at 7:15, about ten minutes after I got to work. I know cause the clock stopped. Anyways, I call Water, Gas and Light (the local utilities folks in Albeeeny) and they said it was a substation and didn’t know how long the power would be out, so I started calling people and/or catching folks as they were coming in and sending 'em back home. I didn’t want people (people we provide services to) to sit around in a dark, hot building for Og knows how long. A couple of staff members tried to pull the old, we can’t do anything so can we go home routine but I said the power would have to be out at least two hours before anyone could leave. It came on after an hour and a half. The ones that tried it were here a grand total of 15 minutes before the power came back on. We flex work hours somewhat here. Some of us like coming in earlier and some later. I’m an early one, so I was here the whole outage. Needless to say, those who tried to pull that stuff had best be on their bestest of behavior, cause I am the senior staff person today and I ain’t real thrilled with that kinda thing.
-swampbear (the mean ol’ boss today)
Way to go, Dolores! And glad to hear #2 pug is feeling better. Yesterday I got an e-mail back about a job I applied for, so I sent off my portfolio samples and I really hope I get called in for an interview. It’s only a summer job, but it’s with a major publishing company, doing exactly what I want to do (book design) and they might keep me on in the fall. It would be a little step up, anyway, and help me round out my portfolio and resume.
Rebo -forgive me, but are you the one who had to switch offices into an area where you don’t like the people? Anyhoo-congrats!
Bus Man --Friday is a go. I COULD be a job fair, but NO, I’ll have coffee with you…*
10 AM OK? At the Caribou Coffee house in lovely downtown Homewood. I’ll be wearing clothes.**
*I can’t go to the job fair because of the plasterers anyway. So, don’t feel guilty-not that you were going to, but IF you were, don’t. OK?
** I like to recycle jokes. You are not required to laugh a second time, though.
Sorry I’m a bit late this morning. Sleep is good.
I don’t have much time, as I need to get going to my appt. with the Student Health Center (second urine test), but here’s today’s booze:
rigs, I’ve heard of staring daggers at someone, but mailing daggers at someone? That’s just silly.
OOPS!
**
CONGRATS REBO!!!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!
**
**
HAPPY BIRTHDAY #2 RIGS SON!!!
**
Good luck with the job TWO.
I’ll come dressed as a plasterer.
Or you could just show up plastered.
Spats a second urine test? Did you fail the first one? Did you forget to pee in the little cup?
So I got up Butt-Ass-Early today and drove to Baltimore to be interviewed and do a demo for the Darkon movie. If yaw’ll are really, really good I’ll post a link to the interview later.
FCM, checketh thy mail.
Lissla, I’m gonna tell welbywife you’re talking about her.
Pray, what exactly would that be?
I’ll come as a slightly loony soccer mom.
No doubt we’ll recognize one another immediately.
(yeehaw! I gots a date on Friday–note to self: bathe ).
Welby, I saw something on IFC this weekend about the Film Festival part of SXSW. Apparently Darkon cleaned up down there, no?
I have come to realize that my talents and abilities are going to waste here. For years I routinely managed more people (on a daily basis) than there are in this building, and ensured that kids that were too dumb to pump their own gas safety controlled the very primal forces of nature. Now, I answer phone calls, research the Internet for parts and phone numbers, and fight other people for use of the one fax machine in this office.
I want to be an astronaut.
Thanks everyone!
Yes, rigs. Sort of… Our whole department moved to a much closer location for me. (8 mile commute instead of 25 miles.) It’s not that I don’t like the people, it’s that we lost several people and the department “dynamic” is VERY different. And my bestest work buddy didn’t come…
But all is good right now!
I’m looking forward to the pics of the DC dopefest. Y’all have a good time!
We took the audience award at SXSW, but won nothing at the HotDocs thingy in Toronto. Overall, the buzz is pretty good about the movie though.
Your very own eleanorigby has gotten into:
GRAD SCHOOL!!!
That is all. Back to your regularly scheduled thread.
WOOOOOOOOOOOO RIGS!!!
congratulations!!!
