MMP - The Quest Lives On

Hi y’all! Do I look different? I should, because I’m in a whole different state! That’s right, I flew out to San Diego so I could be close enough that when I shouted Happy Birthday to scout, she would hear me. Well, that and the fact that my sister is hosting Christmas.

Today was spent at the zoo. Aside from one child puking right before Grandma & Grandpa showed up (a little too much excitement for him, I think), it was a good day. Grandpa stayed home with puke-r, and the rest of us got to go see all the animals. It was a fun day. My nephew insisted on showing Aunt Sue all of the rattlesnakes. Aunt Sue is not too fond of snakes. But I do have to say the snakes were pretty - as long as they stay behind glass.

It’s quiet time now - boys get to play together while grown-ups read. Works for me.

Susan

I knew there was a buzz in the air. It’s because susan and I are in the same city. Whee!

scout and s_f should get together and go out for Chinese. Then they could post their fortune cookies for us to <snerk> at. Wouldn’t that be fun! Go on, you two, do it!

Whew! I’m finally home. Christmas shopping is done, the fixings for the meal have been purchased, the prime rib roast has been picked up, and now I have to clean like a madwoman.

A certain Mr. Someone is trying to convince me to exchange our gifts to each other early. I’m not doing it.

The roads and the stores were RIDICULOUS! I’m so glad to be home, even if I do have to clean.

I guess I better start doing stuff. Sigh, I’d like to just do nothing now, but that ain’t happenin’.

Mr. Taters is standing over my shoulder reading this and he exclaimed, “Yeah, you are! We ARE exchanging presents!”. I DON’T THINK SO.

Just thought I’d post a quick howdy and Merry Christmas to the MMP crowd. I didn’t even get a chance to read past the OP (great post there rifty, I enjoyed it), so I don’t know the details of whats going with everyone this week. I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.

Now I’m off to bed so that I’ll be fully rested to deal with issues at work tomorrow. It amazes me how many people will call their ISP to complain about things and expect them to all be fixed immediately on Christmas Eve. I guess those people don’t realize that the phone monkeys would like a day off too. And as long as the phone monkeys are taking calls, Belzarak will be there to handle any call routing problems.

Back home from Marshall Field’s–store was packed. Windows were meh. Forgot to see the big tree. Yep-I am a mental midget… Lunch was good (we never have lunch under the big tree–too crowded).

Finished another batch of cookies (I had forgotten that I had the dough in the fridge-duh). I am exhausted.

Work tomorrow in AM–0700-1300 (1pm) and then Xmas Day 1300-1900 (7pm). This allows me to be home for Xmax service and our big Eve dinnner and presents afterwards AND stockings and breakfast Xmas morning. I do miss dinner at my MIL’s (damn!).
Patient census is down to 9–I do hope I am not pulled to another unit…
If I am not here tomorrow, I wish all here a happy Saturday and a Merry Christmas, depending.

Work was crazy, but it’s done now and I’ll do some sewing before bed. I have a lap cat. Life is good.

swampy, have you been traveling down to SW Arkansas? I swear that I saw you and your beau (Well, I assumed that it was your beau, as I’ve never seen pictures of him) in Wal-Mart tonight. That is to say, there was a guy who looked exactly like you, with a man there.

My team won tonight - first game we’ve won this season in Huntsville. That was after a game last night where one of our best players was injured. He’s now on 30 day injured reserve. Bastards have been trying to hurt him for a season and a half (he’s only about 5’6’) and they finally managed it. The look on his face when they carried him off the ice was awful, and he’s such a sweet kid. This could be the end of his career.

I have almost completed my Christmas shopping. I have almost completed wrapping the things I have already bought. I am tired of Christmas already - at least I have a game to look forward to on Sunday night.

I don’t know if this is going on nationwide, but I’ve been reading in the local paper that a lot of churches aren’t having services on Sunday morning - they’re having them on Christmas Eve. WTF? I thought the “reason for the season” was the Christian church’s celebration of the birth of the Christ. So no services? I am very confused.

The squeaker kittens (Herman and Lily) are doing wonderfully. They learned a new trick last night while I was in bed reading. I had brought them into bed with me for a while, to let them get some exercise - the bathroom they are living in isn’t very big. So the new game is “jump off the bed on the side away from the Mama, then run around the bed squeaking until she picks you up and puts you back on the bed. Rinse and repeat.” Rotten kittens - they will be ready for adoption about the first week of January. I will deliver.

Happy Christmas Eve, all! We’re going out to lunch today, and this evening, we’ll set up the table to accommodate 10 revelers. It involves bringing in a sheet of plywood and covering it with a bedsheet. It’s a bit rough, but it’ll beat cramming 10 bodies around a table meant for 6. So that’s good.

With all due respect to my inlaws, I’m ready to go home. It’s been a nice visit, but I’m bored and there’s hardly anything to do. Plus many of the conversations center around which neighbors have died. Living in a retirement community is depressing… Hence my suggestion that we go out for lunch. I’m also going to suggest to FCD that we hit the road on Monday. We shall see.

Meanwhile, I see my baby tomorrow - YAY!

I need breakfast - have a wunnerful day, all!

Good morning, MMPers! And happy happy, Drae!

I’m all set to bake my considerable butt off today. Spent yesterday cleaning and grocery shopping, and last night had dinner at a Mexican restaurant with the in-laws. It was fun. The place was so loud though, that I couldn’t hear the grown-ups’ conversation, so I talked to the 9th grader boy-girl twins. They were a hoot! I’m looking forward to all of them coming on Christmas.

My menu:
**Roast turkey
corn bread stuffing
giblet gravy
jarred turkey gravy **(for the semi-vegetarian who I doubt will like giblets, and the other picky eaters)
mashed potatoes
canned corn (for the pickies)
fresh green beans simmered with ham hock ( the semi-vegetarian won’t eat meat, but doesn’t mind things cooked with meat.)
yellow squash casserole (not Paula Dean’s - one I found on AllRecipes dot com)
broccoli/wild rice casserole (a tradition)
cranberry relish (something new - I usually serve cranberry sauce in a can)
croissants (Pillsbury in a can)
Decadent Chocolate Chunk Cheesecake (from KraftFoods dot com)
pecan brownies
carrot cake

And little smokies in BBQ sauce, veggies and assorted dips, cheese and crackers. And a can of mixed nuts.

Am I missing anything?
If I don’t get back here before Christmas, I want to wish each and every one of you and your families a wonderful Christmas. I have really felt like a part of this community, and I have enjoyed getting to know all of you.

MMPers rock!

MERRY CHRISTMAS ONE AND AND ALL![/]

I’ve wrapped all the presents and today will be spent cleaning until I go to to MILs.

Depending on how much gets done before we leave; I’ll probably have to finish cleaning when we return from MIL’s.

My guest list has grown for Christmas day. We’ll now have 17 people in attendance, as my husband invited some friends and their kids. They don’t want to be alone for Christmas, so I guess they’ll be at my place.

Well, I better get started. I hope all of you have a fantastic Christmas; great times, great food, great people. Take care.

We had a lovely lunch out, and the table is all set. So we’re pretty much just waiting for everyone to arrive tomorrow. I took both dogs for a walk - that was an adventure.

Life in a retirement community is not for me, that’s for sure.

Wonder if there’s any chocolate under the tree??

Great room is dusted and just needs a good vacuum.

Next is the kitchen, dishes, counters cleared and disinfected, etc. After that, it’s the powder room, hallway, and entry way. Then washing floors. I’ll clean the bonus room upstairs too, so the kids can play any games they want up there. After that, I’m calling it good. The upstairs will just have to be off limits. I just don’t have the time for the upstairs too.

I’ve just discovered my roast is too big for any pans that I have in the house, and I’ve got some big roasting pans! It does, however, fit in my 18 quart Necco roaster, so I’ll have to use that one. The only problem with using it is the amount of counter space it will hog.

I just counted all my china, and I don’t have enough plates, so I guess the kids will eat off of white dixie stoneware plates. Sigh, I really wanted to make the table look nice. Oh well, that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Wait, I just thought of something, I do have some very old china the kids can eat from. We’re going to set them up at a card table, so it won’t be too bad.

I never did find the cloth napkins I was looking for; I couldn’t even find plain, white napkins. I found some that were a perfect match for my tablecloth, but there were only four. So, I found some very pretty paper napkins that mimic the pattern in my tablecloth. I feel kinda cheesy, but they’ll have to do.

I have a few hours yet before I have to leave for MIL, so that means, hopefully, I’ll get the bulk of cleaning done and I won’t have to be up till the wee hours.

I hope I can get “into” things a little more. I’m just not “feeling” it yet. I don’t know why. I’m sure tomorrow will be fine and fun and laughs will be had by all. It usually turns out that way. Thankfully, our Christmases are not all spoiled by family drama. I am extremely thankful for that. Really and truly, I’m thankful for the family I have, and I’m thankful that we all get along.

Merry Christmas!

We’re back home and Mr. Lissar is napping before Midnight Mass. We’re going with Driving Husband, Quasi-Daughter, and Attacks Husband. To a really decadent high Anglican church with tons of incense and a fantastic choir. Afterwards we’re sneaking into my parents’ house and going to sleep until tomorrow. I have to wrap presents.

We got Serenity from Driving Husband! And a mezzaluna and chopping board! Sooo cool.

I love all my MMP buddies. Have happy Christmassy celebrations and overeat. And then come back and report your loot haul.

That sounds like a plan to me! scout, pm me if you’re available for lunch Monday. I love my sister and her kids, but by then I’ll be climbing the walls for new company.

Susan

Christmas was wonderful. I was so dreading not being able to come home for the 25th, and then it turned out that I’d be able to.

My parents have also (apparently) discovered the wonder of buying things online, because I got a neat book dealing with the bible and homosexuality that I linked to from Amazon.

Did I tell you guys I got my ears pierced? I think that I did, but I don’t wanna go look at this point.

Also, I ate ham today.

And I’m running out of things to say.
