Modern Family, February 20, 2013 -- "Bad Hair Day"

So, what did everyone think of last night’s episode?

I laughed.

Especially because even the baby himself seemed startled at first.

Best stunt casting ever. Poor Tater.

This one and last week’s remind me of why I stopped watching the show last year. Then I checked back in this season and there were some great episodes. Slipping again, however.

Lily is a cranky little bitch, isn’t she?

“How’s things? No seriously, I’m literally asking you how it is to have things.”

She’s a little kid and her fathers make her dress up like screen legends and do photoshoots all day when all she wants to do is go play. You’d be a bitch, too.

Yeah, Cam said something like…“We’ve been doing this for 6 hours and now she is complaining.”

I laughed when at the end when Jay said he had cut the baby’s hair, and Luke threw in the ,“and you ate that piece of cake too.” You know, the special cake that makes your milk come in.

Entertaining but pretty forgettable. I watched it just a few hours ago and already I can’t think of any thing really amusing. Maybe the sequence of people pawning the baby hair situation off on each other in return for something. I thought Jay driving alongside the bus telling Manny to sing in front of everyone was pretty cringeworthy.

Yeah, but she doesn’t seem to have *any *cute moments, just bitchy moments.

Only at the end with everyone trading off the responsibility for cutting the kid’s hair was truly funny. The rest was kind of weak, and of course everyone knew Gloria went to the spa. Still, just look at the other shows, it’s much better than most.

The biggest laugh I got was from “How are things?”

Not a vary good episode. Too high concept. The favor trading at the end was interesting, but the rest of the episode needed to set it up was kind of dull.

Solving that story line by having Claire and Phil smug in their own wealth seemed a little off to me but otherwise a solid episode. I enjoyed the Chain of Lies surrounding Gloria (who of course was lying herself).

Well, I think she’s a funny cranky little bitch, so she’s okay by me.

Yeah, one lie after another – that was quite funny!

It seems odd to call a little girl, albeit a precociously snarky little girl, a “cranky little bitch”. Even aside from that I find the character pretty cute; I enjoyed her parents’ realization a few episodes ago that her bitchiness came from mimicking Claire.

If anyone thinks we’d be better off with the previous, is-she-in-a-coma Lily, well, I’ll call that person a whambulance.

Agreed with the above comment that Jay’s encouragement to Manny was cringeworthy. The episode as a whole really was just okay; its writers almost seem to be recycling themes. But I did very much enjoy the trading off of responsibilities — this show demonstrates a cartoon sensibility without going too far off the wackiness deep end.

I liked that, too – “We’re not bad parents; Claire is!”

Gawd no! She’s half the reason I give this one a permanent hall pass. Plus, admittedly, I keep the bar very low for a what, five year old?

Is it setting the bar too high to ask a five-year old to be cute 10% of the time? I don’t blame her, I blame the writers. Give her a line every now and then that isn’t snarky, for Pete’s sake.

Best line: “You’ve had my father’s baby for 45 minutes and you’ve already got him in a dress.”

But still a terrible driver (though we always knew there was a chance she would be).

Can anybody remember the line about her Vietnamese name?

I just knew they were somehow going to have Jay show up at Claire’s reunion to have a scene with Tater, but nope. Maybe one day Katey Sagal will guest star as Phil’s mom, or as his old flame Mrs. Robinson.
