I get why some people don’t like Lily. It’s often obvious that she is just saying the lines they are telling her to say without understanding the context. However, if the line is funny, it still works for me.
But in the the last scene of this episode, she was actually acting. And it was hilarious. Come on Lily haters, what did you think?
I don’t not like Lily. I certainly don’t not like the actress. The actress is cute and I like her deadpan delivery-- this is not the Royal Shakespeare Company and she’s just a little kid. I get that and don’t expect the actress to rise above her material. I just wish that out of the five or six lines per episode that the *character *of Lily is given by the writers, one or two of them could be something besides cranky/bitchy/sarcastic.
That said, I’ve got this episode on the dvr, but haven’t watched it yet.
Re: Lily. I have to admit, it seems to me that her delivery has gotten better. It feels like she grew up a bit, but enough to put more of an effort into the context of her lines.
Last night’s best line for me was one of Phil’s:
“Please, you’re at the hands of the master. I think I know how to pick up a 14-year-old girl.”
I appreciate that the writers didn’t make Phil completely lacking self-awareness last night. As soon as he said that 14-year old girl line, he knew it sounded awful, and it he immediately understood the situation at the restaurant with the single mom and was trying very hard to not lead her on (though he did start unintentionally start it with his “date” quip).
Yeah, most preschoolers that I’ve known are pretty much walking Ids.
A lot of elementary schoolers for that matter.
And more than a few post-graduate schoolers.
