Haley going to college is a miracle. Lily going to Kindergarten is the law.
LUKE: He’s getting an assectomy.
HALEY: You’re having your tonsils out???
Funny episode. I liked their take on all of the stereotypes of gay couples.
When Phil ended up not going througt with the vasectomy, did anyone else think the writers were leaving the door open for a future pregnancy storyline? I hope not. Having said that, this is the first show that I can think of where they’re actually handling the expectant parent thing well.
I loved Phils-osophies and I laughed out loud when Cam threatened the kid at Lilie’s school. “Caw caw!”
This was the only scripted drama or comedy show that my wife made a point to watch every week. As of yesterday, she said she’s dropping it because it has gotten too sappy. I can’t say I disagree with her, but I’ll keep watching it for now just for Sophia Vergara.
I didn’t like it. The story leading up to play-date was forced. Dad wearing a silly shirt is one thing, Dad grabs roommates ass… yeah, I can see why she wants them to go. They should have too. The episode after that was much better, IMHO.
The actress might still want kids.
Possible, but unlikely. She’s 42.
At the end of the ep my wife and I both groaned and said, please, no more kids. I hate it when TV shows try to extend their life and dial up the cute factor by adding new babies to the cast.
Jay: Chop chop!
Phil: Did you have to say 'chop chop?!?!
Jay: Oh yeah. (heh)
Phil Dunphy- Not A Real Man
Plenty of sitcoms have handled a pregnant actress without adding her pregnancy to the storyline. Both “The Cosby Show” and “Seinfeld” have pulled it off.
Even though I knew it was coming, I loved the part where Claire told Phil she “made arrangements” for him to get to his appointment, only to open the door and find Jay standing there. Had to be Phil’s worst moment ever.
Alex: This family needs a dumbass-ectomy.
[I put my comments for this ep in the other MF thread by accident. That’s what happens when they run the shows back to back.]
I agree it’s unlikely now that she’s 42, but a show like Modern Family would have a tough time hiding it, I would think.
I’ve merged the two threads for last night’s episodes and expanded the thread title.
I loved Cam as the “angry mother grizzly bear”, as well! Hilarious!
Venn diagrams. Loved it.
Is it a Vasecto-you or a Vasectomy?
“If you are the future of America, we might as well start using Chinese money.”
“Aren’t we already?”
I did love the explanation of the dynamics of Gay couples vs Lesbian couples. They got it right by just using their arms as symbols - very clever!
I remember taking my straight brother to a Gay bar in West Hollywood…he was perplexed why there were not also Lesbians at the bar (for many reasons that he would have enjoyed seeing and experiencing) and I pretty much had to draw a diagram to explain why. Amazing that people don’t quite get that, while Gays and Lesbians do have some political and social issues in common, there really isn’t a whole lot of socialization and interaction.
Jauxn (?) at the store as Mitchell and the owner try to shut him up, “What are you doing with your hands? Should I be waving?”
As cheesy as the line was “Dance 'til your legs hurt, sing 'til your lungs hurt, act 'til you’re William Hurt” had me literally laughing out loud for several minutes.
On the other side, I thought they over-telegraphed “Not A Real Man.” That could have been done better.
“Finally, a shirt a man would want to wear.”
Followed by him comparing it to the curtains in their bedroom.
