Modern Family, November 3, 2010 -- "Chirp"

So, what did everyone think of last night’s episode?

it’s funny but all of the episodes seem to have such little substance because they’re divvying up the time between so many storylines. between 3 families, and kids for each family, it just seems like too many characters for just 30 mins. bump it up to an hour!

I liked it, though I agree it was a little jumpy. I can’t get enough of Jay & Gloria (for very different reasons).

“First kiss!”

“No, just tell me.”

What was the line when Manny thought they took him to the hospital in an ambulance with the siren going, but Jay said it was his car and the siren was Gloria? “Honey, people were pulling over.”

“How did you get on set?”

“On set? It’s a warehouse behind a discount tire store.”

Jay: That wasn’t an ambulance. I drove.
Manny: Then why did I hear sirens?
Jay: It was your mother.
Gloria: I wasn’t that loud.
Jay: Honey, people pulled over.

That was hilarious!

Phil: “…and you better stay away from my wife.”
Dylan: “Haley told you about that? It was just a dream.”
Phil and Claire:

then:

Haley, on the phone with Dylan: “I’m laying in bed with my mom. No, it’s not coming true!”

:confused::eek::eek:

It has been quite some time since Dylan has been in an episode, hasn’t it?

He and Haley make a cute couple…

Haley is getting hotter and hotter. The way she’s portrayed, as a complete airhead, there’s no way she’s finishing high school without an unintended pregnancy, or at least a handful of pregnancy scares.

i think you’d be surprised how many wealthy, underaged, and sexually active girls get through high school nowadays with nary a pregnancy scare. my sister’s a junior in HS and just based on the cursory convos i have with her with the going ons with her HS i can gather that just about everyone who has a bf/gf is getting it on.

haley’s a bimbo but she’s not entirely dumb. just because she can’t remember trig substitutions doesn’t mean she’s going legs up on the regs without a wrapper (pardon my language).

Implanon? Depo-Provera? Norplant? Claire’s been grinding up birth control pills and serving it to her in her morning OJ?

The thing about Modern Family is that you can see the punch lines coming from a mile away, but they’re still able to pull them off. When Cam was yelling at the commercial director that the children were not interchangeable props, I just knew he was going to walk over and pick up the wrong kid, but I still laughed when it happened.

Seemed odd that the other daughter wasn’ t there. Did I miss some explanation?

Luke trying to eat the lady fingers in the background at one point, but failing due to the spaceman helmet, that was a nice touch.

My dog is a ferocious lion about most things like mail delivery people or other dogs but she is a quivering coward at the sound of a smoke alarm.

Let’s just say that this episode of Modern Family was a stressful experience for her.

She was at school. Claire was surprised to see Haley, and Phil explained that she had to come home from school because she was sick. But your question is valid for Luke. Why was he home?

“You care about germs? But I saw you kiss a dead bird…”

Exactly. They take every stereotype there is, use them in stereotypical ways, and still have me laughing my ass off. I’m not sure where the props are due - the writers, the directors, or the most solid cast in sit-com history.

Same here. She was on the couch crying, trying to be in my lap (she’s 80 lbs). Then she finally went outside and wouldn’t come back in for a half hour, and I had to give her a bone.

Sad thing is that this very thing happened at our house last month (it made her just as upset) but it only happened at like 4 AM for a few minutes then stopped. And I forgot I’d put an alarm in the basement last year. Finally I did just take them all down for a bit, until I managed to get new batteries for the lot.

Anyway, it made for a long few days while I was trying to deal with the chirps and the upset dog at 4 AM. I could relate to Phil but my dog could not!

The smoke alarm outside my bedroom started chirping at 3am last night. Argh!

I never really question much when a recurring character (in this case the youngest girl) isn’t in an episode or two. Most actors have built into their contracts a week off or two (since acting is sooooo hard…) and I just assumed this was hers.

Especially being an underage actress…there’s rules and such for them aren’t there?
