Either Sitnam has some kind of eye condition that only lets him read every third post or you really can put mods on your ignore list.
This eye condition causes him to spell backwards, too.
I was trying to fit it to the tune of MST3K’s “Janitor”
Susan
And I was thinking of something more along the lines of Desperado.
Something like:
***Moderator,
Why don’t you come to your senses!
You’ve been out closing threads there,
All day and all night.
Yes, you’re a hard one,
But we know you’ve got your reasons.
The admin are on you,
To do everything right.
Closing threads is not your life, you know,
But you do it when your able.
Your spouse is calling “Come to bed NOW!”
But you can’t stop closing threads you know,
It’s a very bad addiction.
Oh look! Another thread about tipping cows!
Moderator,
Now you’ve been Pitted for closing,
A thread you were asked to,
You simply can’t win.
You may be Pitted,
But there are other good people
You’d better let them tell the story,
(Let them tell the story…)
You’d better let them tell the story…
The sit back and grin.***
Thank you, thank you…
In general, we do try to indicate why a thread is closed, usually the final post is by a Moderator saying, “I’m closing this thread because…” However, if we think the reason is obvious (e.g., the initial poster has asked that it be closed) we may not bother.
The only exceptions I can think of might be:
(a) The first step towards causing some spam thread to disappear altogether. This might occur if the Moderator was too rushed to “disappear” the thread, for instance, and so there was some time lapse before it got vanished; or this could occur if you happened to view the thing in the couple of minutes between banning the spammer and hiding the thread.
(b) If we want the thread to “go away” but don’t want it to disappear altogether, we just want it to softly flow back into the mists and be quietly forgotten. In that case, if we post something saying, “This thyread is closed because…” then it pops to the top of the front page for the forum. That’s counter-productive, and so we wouldn’t give a reason. (I confess, I can’t think of when this might have happened, but I’m allowing that it could.)
© The moderator closing the thread is pressed for time, and thinks it’s obvious when perhaps it ain’t. While we try to keep the membership as informed as we can when we’re closing a thread, sometimes it’s done on the run (for instance, at the moment, my wife is yelling at me to finish this post because she’s ready to leave.)
And then there’s “The Mod Rules” from SDMB ~ The Epic Musical Sequel.
Aw, Sitnam, is seeking closure.
Talk about beating a dead horse.
Actually, I have done this a couple of times. If I find a link in one (usually contentious) thread to another ancient thread that was very clearly contentious, I will occasionally close the old thread so that someone following the link does not feel compelled to respond to it, creating the hassle of a zombie with a dozen angry yet departed posters being abused by a current angry poster.
By old, I am generally talking six months to several years old, not a thread from last week that has just happened to have rolled off the first page.
There are some things worse than having your thread closed without adequate explanation. For example, being told it is being closed for not being interesting enough --which is the discussion board equivalent of being decreed a micro-dick.
No, I’m not bitter – I’m just so boring that my posts put others at risk.
(Seriously, remember that the mods kindly volunteer a great deal of time, and that for the most part they are pretty level headed and do their best to keep everyone happy. Don’t sweat the small stuff. If a call is not what you would expect, or if information is lacking, just email a mod.)
They close your threads for not being interesting enough? Mine are just left to crawl off into a dark corner and quietly expire.
Just be glad no one’s sprinkling salt on them as they crawl away.
That Dragon’s a PIG!
-Probably cardboard anyway.
Not much of a reader, are you?
Anybody ever figure out why the thread was closed?
No, but wouldn’t it be a ironic if this thead was closed.
[del]It was just beating a dead horse. [/del]
Damn you, Kozmik! Damn you!
Actually, damn you, Zakalwe - now I can’t even say that I killed this thread.
Is this thread still open?
Let me check on that and get back to you.
Don’t tell her, it’s a trap!
